VEDDER RIVER COHO - Float Fishing Cured Salmon Roe and Soft Beads for Chrome Fish | Chilliwack, BC

  • This week I made my first couple visits of the season to the Vedder River in Chilliwack, BC. The first trip was a scouting session. I didn't find any Coho Salmon that day, but caught some extremely fresh Chinook Salmon in the canal while fishing BnR Soft Beads under a float. A couple of days later I returned to the river, and this time around I got lucky and hooked into 3 beautiful silver Coho.
    On both of these recent trips I experimented with how to rig soft beads for float fishing. I saw a new technique outlined by CZcamsr ‪@Go2fishingbc‬ in a recent video (link below) - -rather than using a bead-stopper to hold the bead on the leader a few inches above the hook, he fishes the bead directly on the hook.
    This new approach worked wonders for me. I got solid hook-sets on every bite, and each fish I landed was hooked super securely right in the top of the mouth.
    I also experimented with combining Cured Roe and Soft Beads in one presentation. I found that fishing a small 10mm bead right on the hook under a small amount of roe was the ticket for the Coho this time around.
    Check out ‪@Go2fishingbc‬ 's how-to video here:

    Awesome video. Loved your description, glad to see that the placing the beads on the hook directly was working wonders for you. Gonna have to give that a try!

      Yeah that’s what we have here. They are nice too, but not as good as salmon, but can’t complain otherwise we will travel more kilometres to catch a salmon. Have a great day man and keep line tight always 🎣

    Nice fish!! Actually headed that direction on tuesday, gonna fish the capilano and possibly try the Vedder, never fished the Vedder before though! Hopefully get a couple fish on the hook!

    • @KeepCastingNW
      @KeepCastingNW  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Right on! The Vedder is good right now - I haven't visited the Capilano recently, but last I saw it was still really low. Possibly too low for very many fish to move in. I'd recommend keeping an eye on the river level graph here: metrovancouver.org/services/water/seymour-and-capilano-river-levels
      Thanks for checking out my video - tight lines!

      It was busy for sure, but there is a lot of water to fish and explore!

    Are you using a piscifun torrent baitcaster? If so any thoughts or comments on the reel?

    • @KeepCastingNW
      @KeepCastingNW  Před 9 měsíci

      Yes I am! It's very low cost and therefore has some "cheap" feeling parts, but overall it works very well. I've landed steelhead, coho, chum, pinks, and chinook on it with no trouble. Great value for the price

      @@KeepCastingNW anything to say about the longevity of the reel?

    • @rempleforskin
      @rempleforskin Před 9 měsíci

      Its a bit of a gamble with chinesium, but I was using a piscifun Honor XT 3000 spinning reel and that lasted great for a season and a bit before i upgraded to a Nasci. @@lzrk1d888
