I thought its much proper way to clean with leather lotion instead of putting it with soap because it has chemicals. In the long run, it will spoil the leather and canvas!
You can always condition it before and after you wash it. Yes before as well that way you don’t get chemicals on it but I always seal my leather bags so the don’t crack over time

Why use leather lotion if most of the bag is canvas?
