  • The Renault Megane Coupe is a good looking hatchback from the 2010s. Does the rest of the car live up to its sporting looks?

    I have the Megane Coupe 3 for 2.5 years now but with the 1.4 130 turbo engine, remapped it to 165hp and it drives amazingly! Also installed a 9inch Android infotainment and it really gave a more modern and fresh look to the interior.
    For 6K euros I could not be any happier.
    Very good presentation and keep up the good work!😁

      That's brilliant, great to hear from a happy owner :) With the upgrades you've done you've got a very modern car. Cheers!

    I have the 2.0 180hp coupe and i love it. That engine seems unbreakable and still after many years i enjoy getting in that car.

    Cool review ! It is nice to see a review of the base Megane 3 Coupe as it is often overlooked by the Renault Sport version of the Megane. I personnaly have one of this car, a Privilege trim version with the 2.0L turbo 178hp gasoline engine. The extra power really highlights the capabilities of the car and turns it into a fun little GT. It has its faults, but it sure has some qualities. For the value, it is way cheaper than its german rivals :)

    • @JJonCars
      @JJonCars  Před 4 měsíci +2

      Ooh, I bet your one is a fun one, with the 178hp, and top spec too. I quite enjoy reviewing 'normal every day' cars, so I'm glad you enjoyed it!

    I got mine with a 130 TCe 1.4 petrol dirt cheap. It drives well and looks fairly cool. But engine is shakey when its cold, seems to be this way from factory and you cannot do anything about it. Used prices for these are really low. Fuel consumption is meh. A bit too high. But for the price I paid it is hard to get anything nearly as cool and good to drive like this sporty megane.

    They are a good looking car, almost up there with the scirocco.
    I liked the looks of the mk1 coupe when I was a teenager. I guess they weren't the most reliable (didn't seem to see them on the road very long as far as I remember)
    Nice video again JJ 👍

    • @JJonCars
      @JJonCars  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Thanks Adam :) Sometimes cars don't last because people just don't care about them enough to keep them going. I suspect the Megane might be one of those cars!

  • @MattysCars
    @MattysCars Před 4 měsíci +3

    My ald fella had one of these back in the day. With the poor reliability of the “shakin that ass Megane” fresh in my mind, I had my doubts when he chose it as his company car. But it was faultless. And at last check it’s still on the road!

    • @JJonCars
      @JJonCars  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Shame about that MK2 as I think they look quite cool now, the weird design stands out at least. Had the same thought though before driving this car, knowing what I know about the older Megane reliability. Nice to hear it's still on the road!

  • @fredonline
    @fredonline Před 4 měsíci +3

    It's a good looking car, reminds me of the Astra GTC but the GTC just edges it for me. This Megane (from just a cursory Google) isn't the greatest performer considering that the insurance and road tax aren't the cheapest.

    • @JJonCars
      @JJonCars  Před 4 měsíci +1

      The cool thing about the GTC, and the Scirocco, is that they were both wider than the basic Astra and Golf they were based on. So they really did have something extra over the Megane, which was closer to a 3 door hatch version of the standard car (though still lower). I'd love to get a GTC on the channel at some point.

  • @MrSunnyBhoy

    Great review as always. It is a nice car, I really like French cars for their quirkiness. The radio and multimedia controls are typical french as Peugeot do the same. I actually see this more as a hatchback than a coupe but technically it is a coupe due to the 3 doors. I really like the instrument pinnacle.

    • @JJonCars
      @JJonCars  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Thanks man! Yes, sometimes it's just good to have something different isn't it. Agree with you that its more of a hatchback than a coupe :)

  • @keithjones7349
    @keithjones7349 Před 4 měsíci +1

    Good, looking cheap coupe but, like you said in your review, there’s a lot lot of competition in this market sector and the GTC and Scirocco both have the edge on looks imho

    I own a 1.4 TCE GT Line. It's a lot of car for the money, if I could change anything I would make the suspension softer and lower revs in 6th gear at 70 MPH (2800 RPM). Other than that it is a great car, I have owned if for a year and no issue yet, infact it just passed it's MOT with zero advisories.

    I remember taking one of these for a test drive when I was looking at buying a brand new car about ten years ago. Even though we booked the test drive, the Renault salesperson could only spare us ten minutes of his time and the test drive consisted of a drive 100m along a trading estate road. Liked the look of the car on the outside, not that keen on the inside, and really didn't like the manual gear shift feel or the ride. Keep up with the great videos on congratulations on the 10K subscribers.

    Great video again! I agree, I also think this coupe version is gorgeous! Even though I'm not a fan of calling these stretched hatchbacks 'coupes' really. My wife had a Megané III (diesel estate) over a decade ago, out of all French cars IMO Renault was trying to be the most 'German'. That said, the Megané III was okay, aside the Mrs having hard time keeping the sheet metal in it straight, (LOL, she's actually a good driver, but this Megané was truly haunted by bad luck), we only had some annoying sensor issues on freezing weather. We learned the hard way that Renault's problem in our country isn't really the reliability per se, but the service network simply not caring. Most authorized Renault garages also service Volvos here, and Volvos are popular in business market. You can take a guess which one takes priority in the service, your privately owned Renault, or the 20 business owned Volvos in the parking lot.

    • @JJonCars
      @JJonCars  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Thanks Janne! I do agree with you, in that they aren't really 'proper' coupes that we had in the 90's, like the Fiat Coupe, Peugeot 406, Ford Cougar, Alfa GTV etc etc. I imagine the dealers are often to blame for poor sales or satisfaction with cars especially when they're new. Your winter weather puts cars though their paces, the poor Megane was probably built for a French winter haha

    I have got exactlly this model, engine and color, only different equipped. This car you have is great equipped because I have automatic air con., which is controlled by a silly button and is unbelievably annoying. The manual knobs are way better. Another thing is that I don't have any keyless. Which means that I must insert the card into the slot all the time and the slot is in a horrible place behind the gear stick. And the stereo is a really bad joke. Without that sat nav it has horrible logic of control, and the power of the audio system is lower than low. And there are millions of other things that annoy me about that car, but yeah, IT IS VERY RELIABLE.

  • @carolynyoung8958

    I have one question you may be able to answer. There are two little things that look like tiny speakers on each side between the windscreen and doors and I cannot figure out what they are!

    • @JJonCars
      @JJonCars  Před 2 měsíci

      Well, you know, I think they might actually be tiny speakers? Those sorts of speakers are usually called 'tweeters' and they're for the higher frequency sounds in a sound system

  • @chrishartley4553
    @chrishartley4553 Před 3 měsíci

    Not a bad car. i have the same engine but a year older.
    Looks nice, is reliable. But is noisy at speed and 1.6l isn't fast. But I don't care about that.
    Only real problem is backlight on the rev counter that sometimes flickers (seems to be a singular issue with this one car). Also the lack of cup holders: Excepting single one that can't fit anything bigger than a 330ml can of coke. And even then I'll be punching it when changng gear.
    Biggest issue in 2 and a half years ownership is replacing a brake caliper... And the fuel cap solenoid that fixed itself somehow. That would have been an easy job if I needed to replace it.
    Honestly I think it (and Reault overall) gets overlooked because its French (insert old joke here) and gets tarred with the same bush as Peugot and Citroen

    • @JJonCars
      @JJonCars  Před 3 měsíci

      Good to hear more stories of reliability. I imagine that 1.6 petrol is up there with the most dependable as it's quite simple. The cup holders are ridiculous haha
      I keep looking at a certain other model of Renault for a potential second car, my respect for them is growing...

  • @carolynyoung8958
    @carolynyoung8958 Před 2 měsíci

  • @richardelson3261

    Disagree I think it looks a touch ungainly. The front end is overdesigned and the back end looks squashed. I have never looked at one of these and even considered it to be just about pretty let alone very pretty.

    • @JJonCars
      @JJonCars  Před 4 měsíci +1

      The front is probably the fussiest part I'll agree. But I still think the overall shape of the thing is very nice, and I don't mind the back
