    The fact that this university has commercials should be enough for people to know that it's a scam lol

      Almost all state universities and community colleges have commercials... so they are all scams in your opinion?

      That "scam" taught me a lot about software development while obtaining the Bachelors Degree and prepared me for the good career I have had since graduating back in 1988. Mileage may vary for everyone who goes to "any" university.

      I agree with you Jason. When you watch a college sports game, many of the commercial breaks include commercials for the universities that are currently playing.

    Back in 2007-2008, I decided to go to Devry. I've asked as much questions as I can and one of the questions I've asked was, "Will I be able to transfer these credits from Devry to another college, if I decides to transfer?" The Admission Representative said, "Yes, yes you can." After almost 2 years later, I couldnt afford it anymore and decided to transfer. Guess what??? My advisor at a public university in Denver told me, "We do not accept any transfer in credits from Devry because they are not an accredited school." At that point, I should have taken Devry to court for misleading and lying to me but I was too young. It took me years to finally pay off that stupid loan. I had to re-take all the classes I've already taken at Devry and pay those classes all over again.
    Looking back, it made sense as to why that Admission Representative from that Devry location was constantly calling me and trying to get me to go to Devry. She needed that income and number. She was so attentive and helpful before I became a student. I also remembered clearly when I registered, enrolled and paid my tuitions, I couldnt get a hold of her if I needed answers. Heck, even the math instructor wouldnt even reply to my emails when I had questions about Math.
    What a shame! This is my experience. A lesson learned for me. The money they made off of me will never make them successful or rich. Dont waste your money going here.

    I graduated in 91from the school in Atlanta I had an interview and a week before orientation they dropped the whole group. The job was in Florida. And was never able to get a job in my field. I went back to school a community college received a degree Network Technology and Information Systems and landed a job with the gov as an IT Specialist. Devry is the biggest disappointment and my biggest regret!! For those who plan to go PLEASE DO NOT!! They are the biggest waste of time.

  • @tkousek1
    @tkousek1 Před 6 lety +4

    I have to chime in. I'm 51 and a software engineer (mobile and web development). I went to DeVry from 1985 thru 1988 and got my bachelors in CIS. Got a job in 4 months and have been working ever since. Although I took about 3 more years in college since DeVry (engineering math, chemistry, etc..) and several certs since then, I can speak for my own personal experience at DeVry. They were owned by Bell & Howell back in the 80's when I went. Got the bachelors in 3.2 years as we did not take summers off ever and it was 3.2 years non-stop. I thought they were quite well and equipped me with the foundation I needed to stay with this ever changing field. I honestly don't know how DeVry has changed since I was last there in 1988 but I know they had a good reputation back then. It was primarily hands-on from day one till you got your Bachelors of Science degree.

    • @directorbeau
      @directorbeau Před 5 lety +6

      That's a nice story but we're not in the 80's anymore, and companies are more selective on candidates because the supply of CS degrees has gone up tremendously. Therefore, they can not accept applicants from any for-profit school if they so choose to, and the reputation of for-profit schools has gone down considerably the last 30 years.

      @King_Prodigy Před 4 lety +1

      I also went to DeVry and received a bachelors degree in CIS Software Development last year as while going to a coding bootcamp. DeVry is like other online school the rep for online schooling is not up to par with most traditional four years college but with a couple of certs and the degree you can go pretty far with a DeVry degree just have to put in a little more work looking for employment. I currently work with a software development company as a Software Engineer and the coding bootcamp certs help out alot but the bachelors degree from DeVry is what boosted my salary expectation. Long story short DeVry is not that bad of school is just what you do with it. Coming from a recent grad.

    I went to DeVRY in Toronto, was hired within 3 months in Telecom. Today I work from home for an small ISP and make low 6 figures, I work 2 or 3 hours a day... Not a huge success but not too bad by my own standards. Some would consider me a mediocre by their standards. The education I received at DeVRY was OK, it was quiet challenging actually, once done, enough to help me land my 1st job and the rest has been up to me...

      I am in the same boat as you. Here’s my plan of action: Cite the official FTC complaint about false and deceptive advertising and submit a copy of it as a supplemental exhibit to your Borrower Defense. Parse in detail any conversational exchanges you had with DeVry advisors as they likely were trained to pitch the same claims made in their printer media and advertisements. There was also a 2019 ruling by a California circuit judge that upheld a lawsuit filed by previous DeVry students seeking damages you can cite as case law to assert your claim. Civil Action No. 19-cv-04079-JSW; Maria Alvarez, et al. v. Adtalem Global Education, Inc. and DeVry University, Inc.
      There was a $100 million dollar settlement fund set up by the FTC which DeVos attempted to dismantle. You may not have recourse in getting money back you paid to DeVry from that, however you are entitled to a full discharge, including accrued interest. DOE may also reimburse you for the payments you made on the loans from the date your original repayment agreement commenced.
      If they drag their feet on your Defense claim, you may want to consult an attorney and sue Betsy DeVos directly as I plan to if I get no relief.
      Good luck!

    Emotionally charged college drop-outs seem to think that aggressive marketing tactics automatically means low quality education. Devry has to maintain its regional accreditation like every other regionally accredited university.

      When I graduated back in 1988 and went to job interviews, employers were surprised that DeVry had Bachelors Degrees. MS degrees today. Some of them back then said to me "And we thought they were just a 3 month certificate school. We had no idea." :-)

    Went to Devry, finished, then 6 month grace period, and 2 years of forbearance racked up another 20k in interest. Ended up at $112,000 in loans. Took me 2.5 years to pay off. Do I regret going there, ehhh yes and no, I did well in my field, but most probably will never get the same opportunity and never pay off the loans.

    Thanks for a great experience Keller Graduate School of Management at DeVry. I enjoyed earning my recent MBA in Marketing there and have gone on to begin earning a Certificate in Entrepreneurship. I'm also going to the University of St. Thomas this fall to earn a Commercial Real Estate Designation (CCIM) and a Real Estate Certificate. I'm a better person, entrepreneur and earning more in my field. Thanks DeVry for awesome webinar like on the "Internet of Things" given by CISCO on your Chicago Campus tonight. This was a minor bump in the road concerning claims from the 1980's-best to get the real data like I did. This has been settled.

    I graduated from their bachelors program under my families endowment. Live went on, I am actually not employed now, and no one is allowing me a job.
    However I paid my wife’s way through a State U, now she is holding her job, and I did not. Those for-profit colleges hire credit-card salesmen. Do not attend them. Go to your nearest state university, get a job you can actually do.
    That’s what I’ve got.
