Christine thank you so much for your videos about stitching on layouts. I love the look and being a cross stitcher I have loads of floss to use. Going to get busy!
This would be a fun pre-school craft to do with my granddaughter.
I love this!!! I want you to know how much I appreciate this and the other stitching video. They are very helpful!! I will need to watch a couple more times before I attempt, but I am going to do this!! I cannot wait to see your eight hour masterpiece!!! Oh my gosh!! Thank you sooooo much for doing these videos, they are very much appreciated!!!
Kari Thomason I am happy to do it!
There is a very simple trick to separating six stranded embroidery threads. Cut the length you are going to work with. Hold the length near one end between thumb and forefinger (I'm right handed, so I usually hold the thread in my left hand), then with the thumb and forefinger of other hand take hold of one of the six strands. Pull your two hands apart as if you are stretching the thread along its length. The single strand should pull smoothly out from the bunch - give it a try, it is sooo easy! Don't pull the single strand towards the other end of the thread, don't pull in a V shape the single thread apart from the rest in a V shape - just a simple pull as if you are stretching the thread along its length.
I struggled with separating strands for years before someone taught me this technique. So I thought I would pass it on.
Love this! I've had this technique on my to do list
omg! love this! so pretty! you make it look so simple :) cant wait to see the completed layout.
Trisha Gail thank you ❤
Gorgeous.
The first craft I ever did was cross-stitch, and I still have a ton of embroidery thread. So I'm definitely going to be doing more stitching on my layouts! Question: How many strands of embroidery thread do you usually use?
Wt is that paper name?
So pretty already!
whatjenren peterson thanks so much!
Great technique! Looks beautiful! Thanks for Sharing.
Love it
I didn't catch what kind of paper you used and how many sheets.
very cute TFS😃
I know this is an older video, but I thought I would comment just in case someone might see it. You may laugh, but when I separate floss, I separate it also into 3 strands. I have 3 strands in my left hand, 3 strands in my right, and I hold the tail with my teeth or my lips while I gently pull the strands apart. This keeps the tail taught and does not seem to get tangled or knotted that way. I pull apart for a ways and let go of the tail so it can unravel and put it back in my teeth again and continue. My grandmother showed me that when I was very young, and I have done it that way all my life and works for me, probably 95% of the time. Once in a great while I still get a snag, but very rarely.
Cindy Sadd great tip - thank you!
