      So you see the ump doing the same thing to Boone and getting away with it? On how the Yankees should have 90 wins with this talent? Or how they should have at least two championships since the start of 2018? But they haven't sniffed a world series in that time.

    • @weevie833

      @@brianschaffer9220 "...with this talent"? They are not as deep in talent as you'd think. Even through the win streak, it was clear to some of us that this was not much better a team than last year - just fewer GIDP and some hot pitching (which gone now). They will make a quick playoff exit, for sure.

    • @daneg
      @daneg Před 2 lety +2

      @@weevie833 imo the staring pitching was always a time bomb. Cole is the only frontliner. I love Nestor, but he can be hit. Sevy was bound to fall apart. Nobody in that rotation strikes fear in a postseason game. the hitting was never good despite the names. outside of judge, trevino and carpenter, everyone in the lineup is under-performing. but the bullpen falling apart has really broken the team, imo. at one point, they had the best bullpen, and it wasn't just smoke and mirrors. I'm very concerned. Hicks seems to think he's a home run hitter and tries to pull everything on either side of the plate - psst: your job is get on base for judge, stanton, and rizzo! They needed to get rid of Sanchez, but all they did was get older at 3B. love Rizzo, but the back issues were inevitable. Same with Stanton and his myriad IL stints. this is a lineup with about 5 DHs. it's poorly constructed, imo.

    As an American football referee down here in Brazil, we follow the IFAF guidelines. One of them is "keep a standard during the game. If you call something a holding where it wouldn't usually be a holding, keep that standard for the rest of the game." and I think that is fair enough considering amateur leagues. So, calling those strikes consistently is something I can understand, but when it's inconsistent it's when all the good work goes down the drain. The teams pick up on that and rightfully so protest those calls, your credibility goes to the mud and if a close game ends one the teams will have very valid arguments against you and your calls. It's not great. . When it comes down to the pros, I expect the very best in all departments, especially the referees. We shouldn't ever be remembered when we are on the field. The fact that I know about Angel and I don't even follow Baseball (besides those fantastic breakdowns here) is daunting.

      Not yet. There are so many different systems used to call balls and strikes, and most of them have different strike zones to each other, and capture the ball at different locations. Umps can see that the plate is 3D; the ball at the front of the plate and at the back are at different locations. If it's in the zone at the front of the plate but moves out at the end, if the Robo-Ump captures it at the end, it would wrongly be called a ball. They should be used, yes, but they shouldn't replace umps.
