    I think it’s really amazing that around March I started learning about LDS and I found this channel by chance and I’m really loving their teachings. I notice that a lot of the things going on in my life I can see the way things line up. Like I meet someone, that I originally was not going to meet and it turned out to completely turn my life around, and I can just see how the randomness is lining up.

    Loved this. We had some intense financial goals (paying off our house in 5 years while my husband is in grad school). However, my husband, who is a chaplain candidate, was speaking with a chaplain about our goals and he told us something really interesting that changed our view. He said that family vacations were the number one predictor (if I remember correctly) of how close families will be long term. It really made us think about the importance of prioritizing fun vacations for our family, rather than just prioritizing finances only. Obviously doing what you can afford and fun can be cheap, but vacations are important and good to make a priority. I'm excited to look into some of the tips and would love more.

    Late to your video and I want to say thanks for your perspective on fear. My husband and I build and fly airplanes and after two kids I now feel frozen at times by fear to do things. I needed to hear this to move forward. As you said "faith in God, not in the world". I will take my fears to God and embrace life and the opportunity to have adventure. Thanks so much!!!

    How can they afford to go on vacation ECT...?? Creative financing, hard work. Just in 2020 purchased their dream cabin in Huntsville Utah for a cheap $1,700,000.00. Selling their Draper home on market for nearly the exact amount cabin cost. Purchase new Draper home that is the mystery fixer upper. Do not know how much they paid for this new house yet. So what??? People these two work their bottoms off! They really know and have learned how to work the system! You can not take it with you, so IMO, I applaud their creative financing!

    how do you budget spending for trips if you have never been on this type of trip before? Whether it's a new type like a cruise, or a new place like Italy where you don't know the cost of things. I am always unsure what to budget for spending while I am on the trip (food, cabs, etc)

    • @jordanpagecompany
      @jordanpagecompany  Před 7 lety +4

      If it's a cruise, we always add $1000 on top of the cruise and flight price. Otherwise just ask around to get a feel for what others have spent!

    • @silvrgurrl7844
      @silvrgurrl7844 Před 7 lety +6

      Laura Wallace I'm not very good at living frugally (maybe that's why I'm here! :) But I love to travel. I'm sure there are many travel sites that give this kind of info, but I've found TripAdvisor very helpful- not just for budgeting, but to find the best stuff to do! I've never booked thru them, but I choose hotels based on reviews & have always been happy. There are reviews for restaurants & activities/excursions. You can gauge how much to budget- price points are usually listed.
      I make a little "restaurant guide" full of options so we can choose what sounds good each day & are never hunting for a restaurant. I make notes on each one, including prices, some menu choices (especially items that several people recommend,) if dress code is required, days/times of operation, address & phone # (helpful for taxi drivers,) etc. We've found great places to eat that we otherwise would never have discovered! (We also ask locals for recommendations- we ate at the BEST Cajun place in the Virgin Islands due to a tip from a local!)
      Don't forget to plan for tips! Some all-inclusive resorts will state that tips are included. I'm not sure- we've only done this twice (in Mexico) but it seemed the waiters may not be getting the tips? We tipped waiters & housekeeping in cash, and seemed to get better service than those with A-I wristbands who trusted the hotel to disperse the "included" tips. Maybe something to research if you're doing this? (We decided not to do A-I again, bc we prefer to try local restaurants & experience the culture.) In countries where English is not the primary language, we usually ask the hotel concierge to make dinner reservations at the place we choose, and tip them well at the end of our stay.
      I've found useful info on Tripadvisor that makes our trips so much better! Things like a suggestion to request a table near the edge of a balcony & the time to arrive to experience an amazing sunset! I've learned when an excursion that sounded fun is actually a big rip-off. It takes some time to research, but it's worth it! Then your trip is stress free, you don't show up to find something closed, & I've found reviews to be pretty spot-on. I HAVE noticed that ideas of what is "expensive" are a bit relative. When we did all-inclusive, we chose this option bc several reviewers commented that drinks & food were crazy expensive when ordering ala carte. We were surprised to find that we didn't think so. Yes, you do pay a bit more for a diet Coke, but you're paying for convenience. At least at this resort, the food wasn't that pricy in our opinion! So take reviews w/a grain of salt, I guess. But it gives you an idea of what to plan for.
      If travelling internationally, I'll also do research on the country I'm visiting. I've found that proper etiquette and tipping expectations (who/how much to tip) vary. We travel to Mexico a lot, and I didn't know until researching that grocery clerks accept tips, but taxi drivers are usually not tipped by locals (we still tip them- again, I'm not good at being frugal, I err on the side of tipping too much!) Many foreigners don't know that Mexican waiters often won't bring your check until you request it- they consider it rude, like they're asking you to leave (I've read a lot of complaints from people who didn't know this!) Knowing these little things about the culture/expectations, makes for a much better trip. Happy travels!

    It sounds like there two kinds of moms the kind that isn't anxious to leave their kids on their own with babysitters and the one that is. Well there is a different kind, I am a mom that is not anxious I know my kids will be well taken care of, but I believe that children need their parents in their first yrs. And should the separating process on their own. And not be pushed to do so. I believe that for their emotional and mental development it is crucial to be available to them through their first years of life. Since they are programmed to be close to their parents for their security and well being. the human baby is born 18 months prematurely and only at around the age of five cognitive processes start to develop so the child can understand the absence of a parent. I personally believe that even than a child needs to be in a position to say if he wants or not to stay alone with someone else. That child didn't ask to be born we asked for that. So although my children see my parents every day and are close to them my first born alone chooses to spend the night with them. The small one does not. I believe that pushing the child prematurely may cause not just a strain on the child but also on the relationship we have with him.

      Cheyenne Homesley there are numerous depending on where you are going but always bring tissues everywhere you go. The bathrooms are hit and miss and almost never have toilet paper when you are in the small towns. Take a crossbody bag that's light and only bring essentials. I used to pack a ton more than I needed with "just in case" items. Florence is my favorite city in the world and the Uffizzi museum is amazing. They have good pizza in Florence but the best is in the south. It's better to answer specific questions since there is so much.

    I love hearing about how you can afford to travel so much! I really want to travel all over the place in the future. It seems like there's such a negative connotation to traveling a lot -- but if you can afford it, why not live your life more fully, right??

    So if you want to take a trip or own vehicles, just screw the system and call it a business expense? These "businesses" are going to have a rude awakening now that those tax laws have changed.
