When did Mathew & Ed Begley Jr become twins? (lol) He's one of my favorite actors along with Christian Bale who also just happens to have a job making films. They don't chase fame. They don't make the rounds of anything with a host. Both are just actors. As someone below mentioned his acting in "Birdy" was award winning. He's never cared about looks because he's never been that type of actor.
I love that Matthew thought about what Stanley would have done with a Netflix platform. Oh my gosh that would have been just amazing! The admiration these men still have for him as a director and a man is really lovely and touching. Such a great conversation to explore and share . Thank you 🙏🏼👏🏻❤
Because of the shortness of the basic training haircut, I would assume they shot all that last. The basic training sequences seemed so intense. They were also realistic. I served mostly (after training) overseas from 1968 to 1972. The 'look' the 'jperiod military argonese', the 'drills', the open bay barracks and open latrine scenes were right out of the 1960's that were awful even back then. The DI was 'perfect'. I added to my wife after seeing the movie that they cleaned up the language a bit. Every sentence in reality has an F-bomb in it (at least). I wondered, "How difficult was the basic training scenes to shoot? How many takes did it all take? I still remember all those scenes to this very day as a 76 y/o vet from an unpopular war. They're riveting. In the movie, their 'basic' would have been in 1967 because they were in Danang when Tet started in early '68. In early 68, they said a DI/TI couldn't hit a recruit anymore. You were not (officially) allowed to hit a recuit (although it did happen on occasion when you ran into a drunken, off duty DI who was ill tempered and an insult to his uniform. Physical contact was off limits. Screaming wasn't however. So, the scenes where the DI hit The Joker or chocked 'Gomer Pyle' would have been accurate for 1967. Just an FYI.
Wow, amazing white hair on Matthew Modine! I know he's in his early 60s Today (born 1959, same as Vince D'Onofrio), but it's astonishing how little his face has changed over Time. BTW, 'Full Metal Jacket' & 'Dr. Strangelove' continue to be two favorite Father/Son films my Dad & I enjoy.....kudos, Stanley!
Someone actually mentioned his film "BIRDY"! OMG! One of the most underrated films ever and that should have gotten Modine at least an Oscar nomination!
@@touchsumgrass23 OK thanks! I'm like damn ....he fell off bad since dark Knight. I was going to say originally this look must be for a role BUT with covid. I thought it just grew out like this
Wow, almost every single comment here is about how "old" he looks or his looks in general. Just goes to show how shallow a lot of people can be online. It says a lot about the ageism going on today... What about CONTENT, what he's TALKING ABOUT ?
Most people are sleepwalking through life, unfortunately, and never looked into what being a person might be about. They just steamroll through life. Yeah, he looks old - done. Don’t have to think after that, and if you do any thinking you can go live alone in a hollowed out tree.
Modine seems a genuine guy. "I went into acting because I knew nothing about it." Considers himself rudimentarily competent yet ends up top-billed by Kubrick ...
I realize this isn't about "Vision Quest" -- but that's a great movie! ... In this interview, is he taking a break from a role or preparing for a role, or is his hair really that white and unkempt?
I was just about to post something along these lines. That is a really, really good film that doesn't get listed enough in best films of the 80s (it got drowned out in one of the all-time great movie years)
Really Collider. You removed my comment, because it said the f word on a video about Full Metal Jacket?... Jesus Christ, I knew this channel had went down hill, but this is ridiculous. I hate when people say this, but you just need to here it. Unsubscribed.
@@greenteecolter oh yeah? Ya' know, that's really what I was going for, but I was little worried I might have overdone it... Glad it came across just right. Thanks!! 😃👍

Matthew Modine is transforming into Doc Brown
🤣
Heyyyyyy😂
"Birdy" is a spectacular film.

I agree, if he cut and died his hair, he would easily look 20 years younger
Well they call him the joker
Wow, I suddenly feel old...
Stanley Kubrick is the greatest director ever!,
Guys, he had his hair bleached for his role as Dr. Brenner in Stranger Things
What about the pants?
Matthew Modine is in his feelings.
The end of BIRDY........Gold
Someone actually mentioned his film "BIRDY"! OMG! One of the most underrated films ever and that should have gotten Modine at least an Oscar nomination!
WHAT?
Damn I feel old watched this guy as a kid. When did he turn into George Carlin?
Same!
He had his hair bleached for his recent role as Dr. Brenner in Stranger Things. He wanted to embrace the mad scientist look I think.

I was thinking more Nick Nolte
@@meeekeeey now that's better than mine. Does give that Nolte vibe
Damn MATHEW you look like Howard Hughes at 80 y.o.I watch all his 80's movie as a kid...He help me thru my puberty...😎🤘🤣
omg Matthew Modine is an OLD man. Look at that hair color! God I remember watching him as the wrestler in that movie in high school. damn I feel old.
cool content from collider. but the constant ads built-in were not very classy
Loved this Conversation. Fantastic Actor.
wonder if kubrick would hate netflix like spielberg and tarantino do, or maybe he wouldn't cause they would give him full carte blanche of any project
Like Scorsese with the Irishman
Superb advice from Leon and Matthew. I love this. ❤

Great interview
One of my favourite actors

With this look I could see him playing a wizard like Gandalf or Saruman.
I thought this was a Geralt interview for a moment based on the thumbnail
God Bless Matthew Modine 😇
Amazing
really great!
A fine, fine actor

2020 hit Matthew modine hard
Either that, or "Full Metal Jacket" came out over three decades ago and he's now in his early sixties. 😐
@@TheStockwell hmmmm...
Damn. who's done more drugs? Leon Vitali or Keith Richards??
@@robzilla730 Why do you say Vitali had a drug habit?
@RideAcrossTheRiver he totally looks like one. Not saying he is one tho...
Somebody should hep Matthew to a wonderful invention known as a "hair brush"
Matthew modine will be casted as dr Emmitt brown in the back to the future reboot lol
Today would be the perfect day for a Jedi Council episode.... SMFH this channel doesnt even appear in my algorithm anymore, congrats!
CUT THAT HAIR, JOKER!!
Papa? Is that you
Is he playing a Targaryen?
Actors are an extremely self-important bunch, aren't they!
The pedestal they and others hold them on is all quite silly to put it nicely.
You were funny in SWINGERS little bunny.
Jealous much?
Why do they both have those ridiculous side burns?

When did Matthew turn into Scrooge . . . .holy crap is this real or did he not take his costume off before the interview.
these actors ARE SO FULL OF... themselves..
amen to that!
Thank God they are, or they would be as dull as you.
damn he got old
As will u and everyone you know
PLEASE BRING BACK DEEPFAKE GEORGE LUCAS
That hair though...
That's David Lynch
He's a hag but he still has a youthful way about him
Why are they interviewing this homeless guy
why are they interviewing 2 homeless guys??
great actor , not my fav Kubrick film , the first part was the movie the rest was already done before by others and much better
Get a haircut
Pathetic!
