I'm honestly so sick and tired of companies releasing games in Beta. I think Palia should have waited until there was more content and fewer issues. I also think games need to rework their micro purchases. Not many people are whales, but if they charged 1 or 2 dollars/pounds/euro for cool things EVERYONE would buy them. I would go from spending zero, to making purchases often as small amounts are easier for me to throw towards a game regularly.

The point of beta or early access is to fund the development and to bug test. You’re literally a bug tester when you buy early access or beta games. I’m honestly sick and tired of people playing early access games and then being upset that they work like early access games. You don’t play EA games if you’re not willing to deal with bugs, lack of content, or set backs.

Or at the very least clearly communicate that the game is in beta. They’ve removed “beta” from anywhere they could get away with. Switch players aren’t told the game is in beta at all but still sold premium cosmetics, which I find very unethical.

My biggest issue in Palia is the lack of story. The npcs dont have a lot of quests and once you've taken the time to get to know them all thats kinda....it? Palium is a nightmare to hunt down in Bahari Bay and i just feel like i long for more in this game. I too heard that S6 let go a bunch of workers. I just feel like we're all gonna wake up and the game is gonna be gone. I really hope S6 breathes more life into the game. I did fall in love with it, and I'd love to see it flourish.

they really can't go back on the "free to play" aspect of the game because they will lose some people due to trust issues. if they do need to look into other monetization, something that was kicked around on the official discord was to make the cosmetics both a monthly subscription, in which people would have access to all of the clothing in the premium shop so long as the subscription was active for 5-10 usd monthly, and still sell the cosmetics as they are now for a bit less for those that just want that one outfit. Also, they need to jump on pet cosmetics, clothes that match with what's already there

I played Palia at first, and did enjoy it. But honestly the multiplayer thing did more harm than good for me. Maybe it's just me but if it had been released as a single person $20 or $30 game; With friends able to play with you like Stardew it would have worked better. Plus I believe it would have been cheaper on their end. The community kinda killed this game for me, and the micro-transactions are just too expensive. I wish them luck in whatever they do to save the game. Depending on what it is I might come back. For now it's wait and see i suppose.

I rarely work with others, only for the glowing trees. Also palium is basically impossible to find forcing players to stay hours roaming for nothing. Just wanted to add a positive voice for Palia here. I've started playing on switch about 6 weeks ago. The reason I held off before that was that I got motion sick while trying out Dreamlight Valley and I assumed it would be the same on Palia. But with the settings in Palia I can play for long periods of time without any issues.
I love the game so much, yes there are glitches but nothing that has been game breaking for me. I have tallied up 300 hours on switch already and am now also playing on steam when I can use hubby's laptop since it's release there. Yes, it's faster on steam, some of the controls are easier, but I don't find it at all unplayable on switch, I still play there daily too.
I did feel that the clothing packs where expensive if you look at it strictly as what you get for the price. But I really felt like I wanted to support this game so I did buy a couple of outfits. The price I payed for that was similar to what you might pay for a game. I don't think I will buy more outfits but I'm not ruling it out as the game as a whole is worth it for me to invest in. I do agree that if the clothing packs where less expensive, they'd probably make more overall, because it will also lead to more impulse buys from those that can afford it, pretty sure most people would spend more overall on the game that way than they are now.
I really hope Palia keeps going. It is a great game.

I really enjoy Palia atm - even though it's buggy af and grindy af, I've not encountered much toxicity in the in-game community OR reddit (the Steam discussions are a whole different matter) - so the layoffs are concerning. Especially with them having apparently planned for an expansion in the NPC Friendship/Relationship levels, and the way they keep dropping 'hints' about at least one more area. I think probably the biggest change they could make right now that would likely go a long way towards fixing any money issues would be to reduce the cosmetics costs, and maybe even break up the sets so we can buy them individually and make our own looks - like get coat/shirt/etc A and wear it with pants/skirt/etc B, and hat C, and wings/backpack/etc D...you'd get some BIZARRE looks, but at least people would look more unique AND they might spend more, as long as they items weren't super expensive like they are now. It'd be a real shame to see it vanish, because it's got a lot of potential.

I was struggling even just clearing my plot in the beginning and I never logged back in. :/ Walking around was also giving me odd feeling of social anxiety with the multiplayer but that's probably on me. As a player of both MMO and Farming games, I was really, really and I mean really excited to play Palia, but it didn't even last more than a week after I started, then I quit to never touch it again.
For me the game suffers from the fact that its trying to be both a MMO and a farming game, It lacks the incentive to go back to the game everyday - a Daily Rewards system, the map feels overly big and for the most part feels empty with almost no soul on sight, just the occasional animal here or there, no other way of getting premium outfits other than paying real money, outfits that sometimes you could spend on another game or anything else, I hated the queues that were there sometimes only for like 3 people, the story is not that ambitious and doesn't strike me enough to keep playing it, you really need to have people to play with you to get the best experience and for me that usually plays by herself with no friends (I'm the only one that plays farming games) it's hard to be able to continue playing if everything takes forever and a final pet peeve of mine is, if you are going to go to do the work of having a cute house with rooms and stuff why can't you use the bed.... it should be used for something like I don't know, recover somthing.
I do feel bad over the people that were let go ... but I was also sadly expecting this going downhill in a sense, it was a beta not even the full release, I don't think that the beta should have had a store even for you to spend real money, it's to address bugs, receive feedback from players and plan for the full release.

I played Palia in the beginning but it wasn't what I expected. Having to gather certain materials with other players and the limited amount was disappointing. I didn't expect players would be fighting over gathering nodes and not being called in chat. I play Final Fantasy 14, the MMO, and the special nodes (called Legendary and Unspoiled) have limited windows but nobody has to fight over them and you can gather side by side with others. The nodes always appear at the same time so you can always make it to your node. I can't believe a cozy game would create a situation where people would be fighting for resources. I also felt the prices were way too high in the cash shop. People might be willing to pay more for glams in Final Fantasy, Fortnite and more established, more popular games, but for a new game that needed to build its player base it was super offputting. Palia is not a game spanning decades and does not have pop culture characters to warrant these prices. Even Disney got backlash for Dreamlight Valley and people have known Disney characters for decades. Palia truly felt like a single player game which was made an MMO at the last second. I stoppee playing ages ago and sadly have no intention of returning. I feel bad for those who lost their jobs but the game wasn't what I expected at all.

I like and played Palia until after the update where they added flow tree groves. I bought in-game clothes even. I already didn't enjoy having to farm flow trees with others, but that was still okay. However, after they added the flow tree groves, it became such a crowd that I could barely get a hit in before it gets chopped. @@meloulena Last I played was a day or two after that update. What you're describing sounds like my experience with FT farming prior to the gove update tbh. Like I said, even prior to the update the whole FT experience was something I simply put up with. The whole calling out trees, sending flares, finding locations, waiting around is just not something I enjoy and quite frankly found it as a waste of time.
I'm glad you enjoy it, and I think developers do intend Palia for people like you who enjoy this kind of multiplayer interaction. I know that many enjoy that play style. Unfortunately, limiting resource gathering options to just one method/play style results in limiting the size of their target audience. I do wish that they could find and retain more people that do enjoy this kind multiplayer interaction in a game, because other than that aspect I do really like the game and hope they do well.

While I did try Palia for 2 months and enjoyed it, I could NOT believe the clear greed of the company for a game that came out in Open Beta. I understand they spent a lot to make the game and employees needed to get paid, but being in a rush to recoup their money by making everything in the store absurdly expensive was not it. Also the fact that even if you wanted to buy the lowest cost item in the store (which for me was like $13) you had to buy a more expensive bundle of gems to get it, and have some left over. I had so many people fight me on this and said things like "yOu dOnT hAvE tO bUy aNyThInG tO hAvE fUn" and while in theory this is true, a huge part of cozy games is decor and aesthetics, and I'm sorry but I don't want to wear the same boring basic clothes for half a year. They should of balanced their prices and added quest-unlockable f2p clothing options to please everyone. The whales would of bought even more outfits, and the low spenders would of bought a few things here and there. I could not in good faith continue to play and support this game when prices did not reflect the current condition of the game.

I played Palia once and I did like it, but the part where you need to pay so much for cosmetics really scared me off.

I love Palia and have been sinking a huge amount of hours in the game, so the layoff news was horrifying for me. But, I can't deny that S6 has been handling player concerns poorly - there is absolutely no excuse to have an in-game outfit be $30 USD, that's absurd. And I say that as someone who DID buy a few outfits just to support the devs.

I will admit, I haven't touched Palia since December, but that's mostly due to other new games grabbing my attention as well as old favs getting new updates. Like the game I had wanted the most in 2024, Sun Haven, that pretty much occupied all of January and parts of February. Then I started playing a few demos of indie visual novels, all the while playing Genshin Impact. Now I am back to playing SDV with it's 1.6 update lol. Maybe when I finish with that may be able to give Palia a chance again, but we'll see because there's Coral Island's 1.1 update to look forward to, which my guess will happen sometime this Summer. Not to mention the new games I do want. Like I will get the Princess Peach game. I tried the demo and I love it, but price is an issue. Then there's 2 games you mentioned Botany Manor and Endless Ocean. Endless Ocean: Blue World was one of my fav Wii games, so yes this new game is a must buy for me. You should have seen my freakout when I saw that trailer drop lol. Also, there's the upcoming farming sim that's my most anticipated game this year, Fields of Mistria (sp?). Still don't have a release date, but it's supposed to come out this year. My guess the Devs are going to drop the release date at this summer's Wholesome direct.

I've been playing Palia non-stop since it came out on the Switch, but the last few weeks, I've slowed down to playing once per day to do the daily activities. The things left to do are frustrating because the RNG is just so low for things and things are still so buggy. Honestly, if the game was finished and some aspects weren't so grindy, I'd support them by spending money, even if I 100% agree that the outfits are too expensive for what they are. I don't spend that kind of money on clothes for myself, so I'm not going to spend it on a video game character.
I'm sad that they laid people off, but not surprised that their monetization model isn't working. They need to focus on fixing their game and offering cheaper items. Then they might survive.

I know that Palia is open beta and they're going to update as they go, but after a bit you just don't have enough incentive to keep playing.
Some MMOs like ESO have a daily login award. Palia does not. (This could be from gold, Zeki coins, an emote, getting an outfit, resources like flow wood, etc).
The plots that you can get are I think cappsd at 9? So if you wanted to have some creative freedom and idk make an apple orchard or create sections of different crops, you can't. And yet the housing plot is HUGE.
We also can't sell furniture or gift started items. If I'm looking at... let's say My Time At Sandrock, you build and you can sell it for various amounts of gold.
Again, I know it's open beta, but after about 100 hours (which things run out long before the 100 hours, I was just playing a lot) in the game right now there's just no point in continuing until there's more content or QOL updates. I, personally, wouldn't reccomend the game as of right now.
The community also killed a bit of the game for me, especially on the discord. If someone brings up accessibility, steam reviews, or the beta tag then people go NUTS, people who voice criticism (especially in a nice way) often get banned, and it's just a toxic place. (Which of course is expected with a discord community. There's just not enough mods or community managers). I had to step away from the discord. (That's just been my experience though)
I am sad for the people who were let go, it's sadly a trend in gaming. I think Palia has a lot of potential, but as usual, it's upper management, stockholders, and etc that have the last say and lack vision for the game and community.

Atm the cheapest cosmetics is the glider skins (8€ iirc). If they made a series of cheaper items for 1-2€, a lot more people would buy them. Season pass with different costs (free that gives basic stuff, a 5€ one with a few cosmetics & furniture & a 15€ pass that gives a special item like a trophy or costume outfit) would also be a good idea. Hell they could have a 1-3€ subscription for more storage space that I'd gladly get the yearly version of.
Personally I really love the MMO aspect of it even if other people can sometimes be annoying - maybe they could add a solo mode like in Fashion dreamer?

Since the worldwide release (aka beta, switch, steam, etc) I've been disappointed in the quality of the game. I've been hoping to jump back in when it's in a more finished state but with the continued additions of content I have kept waiting. With this round of layoffs I worry too. I love the idea of this game but I worry that the monetary policy isn't enough to fuel the game into the future.

  • @bc8796
    @bc8796 Před měsícem

I personally think they will be alright. I was really worried about the news at first as well, but like you said its nothing new in the gaming industry. I've been playing the game since Christmas and while there isnt much to do, ive made friends that I play with and we do random junk together. The updates might take a bit longer but they were pretty committed to trying to do monthly updates. And I think they've been doing a decent job at adding new stuff here and there to keep people coming back. And just keep it interesting. I know a lot of us have suggested breaking down the outfits into more parts and making them a bit cheaper. A lot of people like certain aspects of the outfits but not the whole thing and I believe that would really help them with the money aspect. If they had some special items or item bundles for a decent price, many if us would be up for that too.
I'm in the subreddit a lot reading or whatever and I know a lot of people talk about how they're very unsociable and they don't want to play this game because it makes you talk to people.
Besides when I play with my friends every once in a while I literally have been playing this game by myself. It is possible to play by yourself. The groves are really the only thing that you need help with and you don't need to talk to people to do that. You can literally just wait for someone to call it out go and hit the trees and don't say a word and then move on. Honestly you don't even have to wait around in the gross spot if you don't want to you can run around and just wait for them to chop and then go back and collect the loot as well.
You can even Farm the flow trees by yourself as well so no need to wait for a grove either.
I will say I do wish that they would have added more story content before they release this to the beta and everything. But like I said I feel like they've been doing a decent enough job of updating us and keeping things interesting and new for the game that it hasn't been too bad. And its totally a gane you can leave and comeback again. I've also been playing on switch as well and the controls and gameplay have really improved a lot. It's still not perfect but they've gotten a lot better and I've been very happy with that.
If you were hesitant about the game I said at least give it a try. It's a perfectly fine game, its fun and the decorating aspect of the game is pretty awesome! If it's not your jam, then thats ok too!
If it does end up going down the drain, ive at least had a lot of fun playing!

Honestly I love Palia even with it’s bugs and glitches on switch it’s not bad enough to make me stop playing. I’m a big fan of decorating in games so I’ve still got quite a lot of quests and character relationships to build and the grind is a thing for sure but again not enough to make me go. Idk much about games but I really do think money-wise admitting their free to play mmo approach isn’t working would do wonders for them. Selling it as a single player that can have friends come like stardew would be so so so much better and remove so many of their problems. Not having to worry about servers and all of that would surely take a pretty big load off and they could focus on fleshing out the game for its official release instead. Free to play makes sense to me for beta but at release I wouldn’t be mad if they relaunched with an upfront purchase price. This game has so so much potential, I just hope the devs and singularity 6 aren’t going to wreck that by being too committed to things people keep telling them don’t work :/

  • @friendlyneighbourhoodschokiman

I wish the microtransactions in Palia would be a little cheaper! And I honestly believe it would help them on the longer run. I would definitely consider buying cosmetics then. And chances are high I would purchase again some time later. But with their current prices I see myself forced to either pick one (1) fit I really like and will stick too or none. That leads to me not purchasing anything bc what if I buy something but then with the next update they release something I actually think fits way better but I can't buy it then? I know that this involves a lot of overthinking but that's what happens if not a lot of money is at hand and the microtransactions are overpriced. I am sorry, but I won't put 20-50 bugs for one or two outfits into a game that isn't even finished yet (I am not talking about new ongoing quests obv, there will always be something new for an mmo like this), which also still has quite some bugs and can be pretty boring if all the quests are done. And I don't believe I am alone with this.
Super sad for the people who have been let go of. I hope they'll find amazing new jobs 💜

I mean even Fortnite skins are far more affordable in comparison. What a nightmare that place was. The entire area was so frustrating and nerve racking (NOT COZY at all IMO), and part of the main story line.. so had to do it or quit. I thought my Palia days were over. But I came back in March and with my son's help, finished that TERRIBLE temple. My son (long time parkour gamer) said it wasn't just me.. it was HORRIBLE game design and he didn't understand why they even had that type of gameplay in a game like Palia. The reason I came back was I missed the regular daily game play and I've spent a ton of money on clothing in that game. Other than that horrible temple, they keep messing with my configuration that I use to actually play the game. We can barely use the mouse on PC for anything now.. they have blocked all movement keybinds from the mouse. I have no idea why... they were in use for over 6 months.. now they are gone for two months. Things like that are highly irritating... but I'm hanging in there hoping for the best.

I tried, I really did enjoy the game, but I only have a switch and it was making me so motion sick I couldn’t play anymore 😩

I honestly wouldn't mind paying for a game that I adore and where I would like to support its progress in the future. A game existing plainly with its gem shop can work out or not - in most cases I purchase something to support the dev studio (and also because i often can't resist lol). It's just obviously a bummer, because just as with Disney Dreamlight Valley a big part of the playerbase will be upset. They could either have the luck of a community who would want to play it non-the-less and would get over their disappointment in time, or it's also possible that it wouldn't work out because it doesn't have as a substantial fan base (yet) as i.e. Disney.
I hope they can find a way for them that also works out for the playerbase and doesn't involve even more devestating decisions concerning their hard working employees.

That’s not good … Plalia has massive motion sickness on the switch also all the clothing is micro transactions 😅wish did event were you can get clothing free in game lot people can not spend over £20 for an outfit for a character outfit

I’ve seen some really excellent commentary that the reason FFXIV is dominating the MMO space is BECAUSE it has an upfront subscription (with generous free trial) which allows devs to focus on making good content like story and not just constantly making pay-to-play skins and such. Free to play just might not be the ideal for successful long term mmo growth

I liked Palia when it came out, i played it for a month maybe less then just stopped. Idk, the online wasn't my thing. I also bought one outfit for 20€ and honestly felt horrible 😅 I didn't have to of course, no one forced me but still, it was a steep price and it was like one of the cheapest outfits in the game.

The price point is too high for the cosmetics. They should make the bundles cheaper, and/or charge a lower-but-worse-rate for individual per-item purchases (as in, individual hats instead of the sets of 3) as to incentivize multiple purchases. I actually think the game is fine overall, but the small returns for such high prices kinda kills the value.

If they get rid of Palia… I am going to be so livid. I am tired of getting attached to games that they just get rid of.
