One of my splashes inverted itself at some time when I was playing outside.
I reverted it, but one of my band members kept inverting it afterwards, because he liked that sound more then the original.
I have an inverted splay with a regular splash ontop as a stack and it is super quick and cutting
this is such a weird lie lol
@@Finduh???
Another way to do the sizzling ride is with a chain of paper clips.
But then you fuck around with the dudeli gudeli aduliu muliu betrich in ya ear but you didnt mind well the whawha
That sounds crazy but i know what cha mean bean dean trean

@@larifari2467 thanks. I think
I missed the option of muffling the cymbals using two magnets (for instance those from Meinl). It's a great way of muffling and you can experiment easily looking for the right sound by moving them around the surface. Works great for my ride.
We need more Videos with Andi playing! He‘s one of my favorit drummers.
Awww 😄❤️
Zultan cymbals are incredible!!! First time seeing a big channel like yours using them, it's great!!!
His playing is highly Benny-inspired! Love it!
The coin on the ride cymbol really sounded the best!
Those Zultan cymbals sounds pretty dang good, mate
I really like the kitchen towel trick, if only it didn't look so ridiculous lol. I find myself in live situations in smaller room, where we want to maintain the energy of a rockin' live show but the result is just cymbals smashing everything else. Perhaps a tan towel, custom cut to each cymbal size could get the effect in small rooms without looking so shoddy.
I made a hi hat out of two rides.
Absolutely absurd! Thank you!
2 flat rides i bet!🤣
Nice to see some love for Zultan!
Dude. Using a pair of fast crash cymbals as hi hats is unconventionally brilliant. Love stacking the splashes as well. And goofing with your set is like putting a capo on a guitar, you'll play new things. Genius.
Yes brother ! The inverted splash cymbal / stacked on a China…seriously just changed my sonic landscape. THNAK YOU.
Great! Have fun playing around with this idea! :)
The creativity is just exceptional!
What a great video! I loved these tips! I have tried adding a splash in random places but it never sounded how I wanted, but I didn’t think about some of these other possibilities, so I am definitely going to be playing around with all my cymbals in the coming days 👹
About 1:33 . A free way to do that is simply put tape on the threads. Any tape will do but gaffers tape might be better so it doesn't leave any glue residue. Other than that cool video
Thanks for the Tip!
In my experience, cymbals wear through tape pretty quickly, though.
love you videos , very useful for studio recordings and variety , keep going
Thanks a lot 👍🏻
The kitchen towel on the ride shortens the sustain of it very nicely will have to try that myself thank you. also reminded me of the chain on the ride, so much inspiration for things from this.
I’m not a drummer but i really like this videos so much because i love drumms. Epic content, keep it coming ☺️❤️ by the way you look like Rick Astley 😎
Thanks so much Daniel! Which Instrument do you play?
He's no stranger to drums...
Ah the kitchen towel trick! Used it many times when needing to damp the trums a couple of times.
@@ricardoconqueso he knows the grooves and so do I
Become one 🙂
Excellent tips; thank you!
I had a drummer one time do your Splash trick, but use an FX splash and keep them together pretty tightly, and it sounded almost EXACTLY like a midi "clap" sound. It was a really cool way to get that trashy fakey sounding 👏👏👏 that you hear sometimes in hip hop music, and as an effect.
first time to be here in your channel and i must say these are good stuff. great drumming man!
Kompliment, klasse Ideen, die der Kreativität freinen Lauf lassen. Werde demnächst mal einiges ausprobieren.
👍👍👍Gelungenes Video, Gruß Michael.
Phenomenal playing!! Hats off!
Thanks for the video. Really enjoyed it.
I have that same 10" Aja splash and its fantastic for stacking!
you mentioned, that many hesitate to invert the cymbals bc they fear to break the cymbals ...
even broken cymbals are very interesting sometimes, not only for stacking ...
Steve Gadd already did this in the 70s ...
there are even videos of him playing the big stage with Paul Simon where he uses a broken ride cymbal where roughly 1/5 to 1/4 of the cymbal is broken of
Good point 👍🏻
great drumming!! the crash hihat idea sounded fantastic, i should try that out...
This video really helps, i was looking for it ❤❤❤
rdavidr energy from this
👋😃
7:10 there is third option take old snare wires, cut them in half and fix that on top of the cymbal.
The kitchen towel muffling idea was super helpful and made my cheap ride sound a lot better. thanks.
Thanks, pretty informative and interesting. Good drumming as well.
Great, really great, gddam useful, thank u guys so much!
Great hacks! Txs 🙏🏽
I am a begginer drums enthusiast. I recognized at same time The sound of the inverted Splash. I knew The sound but did not know wich cymbal did it. Amazing video!!
GREAT ADVICE!
I need to repeat the intro many times just lovin the fills.
😃
Beautiful drum sound
Geile Ideen! Werde ich heute abend direkt anwenden. Ich bin da echt nicht drauf gekommen einfach mehrere Becken übereinander. Du bist ein Genie! :D
That Setup is fire bro🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Nice brother God bless you
You might have the most beautiful array of cymbals I've ever seen
Very sweet beats, love this. Great content
Thanks a lot! 👍🏻
Sehr coole Hacks. Mega Video!! :-)
Oh man. I love those inverted splashes. Sound almost like baby chinas.
Your kit sounds like a dream.
BTW the bath tub chain is something I've been using since 1978. Works best at thicker rides, like the 20" Zildjian ride I bought back then (and still use :-))
Very nicely organized. I just can't bend one of my Zildjian splashes
Very useful🤘😉
one of my favorites is bottom china 15" to 18" Top splash 8" to 10", now i have 15" sabian xtreme china bottom and the splash 10" from max stax also sabian top in a remote hihat pedal... really great, the china from the max stax 10" bottom have a 8" splash arborea top also like a hihat but in just one cymbal stand.
thanks!
Great muffling tips
Really like these hacks.... gonna use them at church, I think. Add a little spice to the songs!
Great video, very helpful!!! What are the drum dampeners you are using?
I sometimes use both of my 10" splash cymbals to make a stack, but it never sounded good. It always sounded dead. I might try inverting one of them and see what difference it makes! Thanks for the tip!
The JoJo Mayer custom pedal in the intro is a VERY nice bit of kit
for the muffling, I think it'd be interesting for recording
do one take of the song with tape on the cymbals and then another with towels or something on the drums and mix them together
great video!
Some nice phrasing here....
Great ideas. Have to buy more Splashes now! ;-)
Always good to have some splashes around 😄
If I find nice looking towels, I´d try them out!
I freaked out when he inverted that splash.
I yelled so loud my wife called from the other room, asking what's wrong.
Lol!
I can’t bring myself to do it. I paid enough for that splash to make me reluctant to break it. Maybe after a while I’ll get over my hang up.
😉
Nice. 🙌
Those cymbals sound incredible. I don't say that easily.
is nobody gonna talk about how tasty plays this man? he's a beast
I have been trying to work on my push pull technique. Couldn't find a lesson about it on the site. Hope you guys can make one. Great video by the way. Keep them coming!
Gordy Knudtson has an awesome video series on yt about open/close technique👍
Thanks dude! I will check it out
Secret weapons for the modern drummer
Yeah, we use tapes or blankets to make drum sounds dry and tighter and why don’t we do it to cymbals?
This video gave me some keys to new sounds. Thanks so much!
🤩🙌🏻
I use Moongel on my ride to calm it down....works great and no tape residue
My gosh, when I see that cymbals😛🤑
interesting vid. I've heard of cloth for drum but not cymbals. I could see using cloth on cymbals though for quieter practice, but otherwise, nah. I've heard of moongel too, but haven't tried it. I think it would tame certain frequencies, and would depend on placement on the surface.
You can also use moon gel to muffle your symbols. This will help with the quick removal issue so you can take it off very quickly.
God bless this helped a lot ✝️
Even though It does work to put tapes on your cymbals, I tried it when I needed some muffling for studio work, it not so great idea because it’s really hard to take it back down. A specially if you forget it there, after a while it becomes impossible to peal it off, and leaves a mark on the cymbal. If you wanna maybe sell the cymbal or replace it it doesn’t look so good. I prefer to let them ring or yeah sometimes use a towel or a small piece of cloth to take it down a bit.
I was doing this 20 years ago. Sometimes when I get a quiet gig I put a splash on top of the crash turn it into a short
To your right side, What is the cymbal with the smooth finish near the top, located left of the inverted china?
It sounds great!!
hey I love the videos! Would appreciate it if you used a de-esser on the voice, it gets quite sharp sometimes :)
I use my ride cymbal as a crash ride sound pretty good ngl
I inverted my ride cymbal and it became a backride cymbal.
😅
Have the same towels, they look rad. Do they sound vintage of I don't wash them after cleaning my plates? Would love to convert my generic cheap cymbals and add some original patina :D
Inverting small cymbals such splashes increases their vulnerability to cracking around the bell. Cymbals like chinas are hammered to sit that way in a less compromised state. My evidence is anecdotal but I've had/seen it happen a good few times so I discourage it with nice cymbals.
Heads to kitchen, cuts hole in towel... wife not happy. Thanks for the tips!
1. The 16" Trash Hats sounds AWESOME!!!!
2. Your floor Tom sound is the TRUTH!!!!
Yeah! 👍🏻
OMG! I can't thank u enough. I have just bought a China cymbal which sounds pretty good. However I was looki g for a trashy sound and mine does not sound as trashy as I would like it to.
After placing a dodgy cymbal on top of the other...WoW, the trashy sound arises from hell.
Still not perfect, but I am getti g Closer to what I was looking for.
Maybe a lighter or smaller Splash Will do the job si ce the cymbal on top is quite large and heavy
i wonder what you can do with a zildjian planet z hats and crash/ride .
What is the piece of hardware you used to stack the splashes?
👍👍👍
+Taping on your ride cymbal's bell makes more crash sound!!
(But you can lose a little stick definition)
Don’t really know if this comment has been made already, if yes, I’m sorry! But…
I have been told that using duct tape to muffle cymbals is actually somewhat “dangerous” since it prevents the cymbals from swinging as freely as they naturally would. By interrupting this “natural swinging wave” the cymbals can easily crack. That being said, I’m more of a hard hitter, so maybe that’s a difference. What I did in a live situation where my cymbals were too loud: I used Moongels close to the bells to dampen them a bit. Worked really great!
Using Moongels on cymbals is something I have also done to great effect. I like it better than tape for a few reasons. It is easier to move around to different spots on the cymbal and to take off all together when doing studio work. If it leaves any sort of residue, which it usually doesn't, it is easy to wipe off (I use Trick drum polish for that typically). And of course, moving a Moongel from a cymbal to a different cymbal, or from a cymbal to a drum only takes a few seconds so, it is easy to use, versatile, and for my preferences provides the right amount of dampening. Cool to see other people using this technique as well!
What’s that silver cymbal? It’s absolutely gorgeous
You can find the full cymbal list in the description 👍🏻
I’ve been in a bunch of music videos and we always taped the bottoms of my cymbals so I’m not super loud
Hey
I have a Idea
Can you try to make a Drumset whats Sounds Like Darkthrone on The Last Album
Fenriz is a very awsome Drummer and He Had a Lot of Sounds but i Like The one from The lates Album The Most
What are you using to dampen your drums??
@9:30 this is my worst nightmare and why i can't buy a hi hat without trying it, i havent found gaffer tape to make much difference. A very prominent (and annoying overtone example: Jack Johnson's Wasting time) :)
try putting ball bearings inside your hi-hat and keep it closed for obvious reasons it might create a unique sound im not a drummer though and i dont have a set to try it out
Great video, thanks for all the clever tips, really useful. You used better cymbals in your previous videos though, why didn’t you use them again?
i actually think they sound great, especially when you know their price!
@@pierreg8562 Didn’t know about the pricing, thanks for that perspective.
Actually I think they sound just as good and maybe even better.
Let's hear it for that snare huh?
I put a paper sheet and tape inside my hi hats to control them haha
First 😉!
