  • I've been away from CZcams for far too long, so here's a new video showing you how to create these honeycomb darns.
Honeycomb darns are great for visibly mending areas of clothing that have worn thin so that you can reinforce them and prevent holes from appearing; plus they look good from both the front and back!
This technique and the darning mushroom used in this video can also be found in my new darning kit available via the link below.

What sort of darning thread were you using? Thank you.

I'm using 100% cotton embroidery floss - split down to 4 strands instead of 6 :)

Brilliant. You’ve opened up a whole new world to me. I’ve had my Nana’s mushroom decorating a spot in my room forever … it’s about to go to work 🌸🙏

I'm glad you showed how it looks on the inside. I had really old sweat pants with my early work on patches on the knees. Looked awful, but worked well.
After I darned all the socks with the honeycomb method, I turned the pants inside out used a chalk outline around the patch and went to work.
When I turned the pants right side out. Wow! It looked like an embroidered dandelion gone to seed. I added a long curved stems and it looks so beautiful.
I use the string I pull off feed bags. It's soft and works perfectly for mending
    I'm definitely subscribed.

A dandelion gone to seed is such a beautiful way to describe it! This sounds beautiful, and I'm so glad you liked the video too :)

I've been trying to do this stich for a while now.
I love your work, appreciate your clear instructions, and I'm so grateful for your calm, soft voice.
I sure wish some of our sisters would take voice lessons before they bring their cheery" nails on a chalkboard" ear torture on line.

How do you figure out how much thread you need? I got about two rows into my repair and realized I didn't have enough thread to finish it,

Much less fuss and precision than the usual under over darning. I use wool yarn on cotton socks so the repair will felt and stay soft for a very long time. )))

Would this work for jean that are almost threadbare? If not, can you suggest a method for that. Especially on the backside of the jeans.

Does this prevent a hole too? Wanted to try it in a large area of heel wear. Wool socks.

You'd be surprised! The threads lie so flat against the fabric and with each wash they blend in more. It's a great technique for jumpers and tops as well though
