  • Today I reviewed the Joying 9" Android head unit for the Toyota Camry. Adding an android head unit to your car adds virtually unlimited customization and usability. You can watch movies, play games, navigate the web, and pretty much do whatever else you want. It's fantastic.

    I have had a joying android head unit in my 98 civic type r now for 2 years. Very good unit the GPS receiver is hidden under the top of the dash facing the windscreen. Have no issues with navigation. You can also alter the unit to display your car manufacturer at start-up.

    Good luck with this. I have owned three different Joying products from 7" to 9" and they all failed, from software issues to poorly solder connections. Customer service is as bad as I have ever encounter, everyone there are conditioned to fool you into believing they are going to help you while on the other hand trying to get you to give them more money. Wish we could have something USA made that would compare to this with good build quality.

    These Joying car radios have 2 problems i have been able to identify. Bluetooth and microphone. The microphone is crap. no one hears me when i'm on a call. The bluetooth app crashes once i connect my phone to my bluetooth handsfree. The app restarts but it tries to "steal" the connection between my phone and my handsfree. if i choose my handsfree as the preferred mode of conversation during a call it crashes, restarts and tries to steal the connection again. I complained to Joying about this so they said they'd send me another unit, but that i'd have to pay for shipping. I did but 6 months later it's still the same problem. It's actually really bad now.

    Could you do a video using Android auto on the head unit. That type of video don't exist.

    • @MarkSpurrell
      @MarkSpurrell  Před 7 lety +3

      I could, but I could also explain the issue with Android auto on a head unit like this briefly. Android auto is meant for android phones with cellular data, internet, etc. It gets access to your contacts, messages, emails, GPS data, etc, and uses that information to give you a heads up display on your phone. Since the head unit has no cell data, doesn't have messages or anything like that, it becomes fairly useless. It effectively just becomes a simple google maps heads up display that only works when your phone's hotspot is turned on. If you were to get a head unit like this, I'd just recommend not putting android auto on it. Besides, the head unit has much more functionality without it. You can install mighty text to get your phone's text messages to come through, use the bluetooth app preinstalled to use your phone, and use navigation apps to find your way around. No need for android auto here.

  • @samueltrujillophotography

      @MarkSpurrell  Před 7 lety +1

      NFC stands for Near-field communication, it's basically what's used in phones for apple or android pay. I'm not sure what use these android radios would have for NFC, perhaps a quick connect to your phone? I've never tried anything related to NFC on my radio, so I'm honestly not sure.

      Still pretty good. I'll have an updated review for 2018 next month.

      Ended up selling the car with the head unit. It held up well, only thing that started to fail was bluetooth...which ended up being very annoying.

    These units are trash beware I bought one of the Chinese units and it lasted 6 mths before the screen started being unresponsive and eventually went all the way black and never came back on many people have had the same problems do your research their marketing is better than the lightweight double dins they sell. Stick to Jensen Pioneer Kenwood and JVC these units are no good!
