I would say Lotso is pure evil, but slightly broken. While he does love taking his anger out on other toys, I still find him slightly broken, mainly because he almost got killed, not just once, but twice.

That story with Scar being neglected/mistreated by his father Ahadi could be one of the reasons Scar became this way. Scar’s real name is Taka and it means trash, dirt, and rubbish. Ahadi was a bad father to him and he loved Mufasa more than him. Uru cared about Scar tho.
the reason Sid is broken and not purely evil. Sid has a possible alcoholic father and I think Sid's mother is not seen in Toy Story 1, so Sid has a dysfunctional family and his parents don't keep an eye on him (maybe he never had an education).
Also he made some bad things to his and sister's toys.
But then we see hım in a cameo as garbage collector and he saves toys from garbage.

Do people not know that Waternoose did what he did because he couldn't find any other alternatives to solve the energy crisis they were dealing with? The town was already suffering from blackouts and power shortages, and Waternoose knew this, but even with all his scarers working their hardest, they could barely even reach the minimum requirements. He only sided with Randall because he saw no other option at the time

How are Randall and Scar both? Randall is so petty that it makes no sense for him to even be evil in the first place. He became evil because of Sulley accidentally embarrassing him.
And I don’t even need to explain much with Scar, he’s driven his kingdom to starvation, killed his own brother, tried to kill his nephew, and he betrayed the hyenas.

Mr. Waternoose is more Influenced/Broken. Because his company has been alive generations to generations and all he wanted to do was just keep it alive. He also treated Sully and Mike pretty well and was probably a good CEO for a long time, but his own pride and devotion to the company caused him to go corrupt.
My thoughts (if I say both it doesn't always mean 50/50 for each):
Randall: Both (50% Pure Evil and 50% Broken)
Ernesto: Pure Evil
Syndrome: Both (20% Pure Evil and 80% Broken)
Lotso: Both (48% Pure Evil and 52% broken)
Sid: Neither (he's just a kid)

Ernesto: Pure Asshole (while yes, he’s the most hatable Pixar character and has no redeeming qualities, he doesn’t do enough for Pure Evil and is just a Hate Sink, so he’s here)
Syndrome: Pure Evil (his past is too petty to justify his actions)
Lotso: Pure Evil (like PAL, Spot, and Drago, while his past is sad, it doesn’t justify his actions at the end of the day. Heck, Woody even called him out for his so-called tragedy and pointed out that he used his abandonment to lie to Big Baby and think Daisy never loved him)
Sid: Neither (we don’t know he had a tragic backstory or not so he isn’t broken, but he isn’t Pure Evil either as he had no idea that the toys weren’t sentient)
Waternoose: Broken and Influenced (while his goal of kidnapping 1,000 children and extracting their screams is objectively bad, bad enough, in his eyes, it was the only way to stop the energy crisis and keep Monstropolis’ inhabitants in good condition and didn’t even want to do it but had no choice or than to do so because times had changed and scaring wasn’t enough anymore. Likewise, it is difficult to blame him for not looking for other methods to draw energy through children, since society had already accepted that the only way to obtain energy was by scaring children, with Monsters at Work even showing how difficult it was transitioning from obtaining screams to laughs)
Scar: Pure Evil (DO I EVEN NEED TO EXPLAIN?)

I understand your point completely but there is evidence to make up for that throughout Toy Story 1. And also Sid would be broken either way because he was traumatised after finding out his toys are alive so it would still make him broken.

I see a few problems.
1. Waternoose should be broken since he became a villain out of desperation to save his company and was dealing with an energy crisis.
2. Ernesto should be neither because he is bog standard. All he did was kill 1 person and tried to kill 1 child which he failed to do. He doesn’t meet the baseline enough.
3. Syndrome should be pure evil since he only wanted to be a hero for fame and to look good, not because he wanted to help others. And he killed multiple super heroes and attempted child murder as a result of mr incredible rejecting him which comes off as petty. Also mr incredible literally saved syndromes life at the very start and he showed no gratitude. And syndrome kidnapped Jack Jack out of petty revenge. (a literal baby)
4. Lotso should also be pure evil since his actions go beyond the excuse of him getting replaced because as a result he turned a daycare into a prison camp and abused hurt and imprisoned innocent toys who had absolutely nothing to do with him being replaced. Also Lotso was lost purely by accident and Daisy bought a new Lotso because Lotso was Daisys favourite toy, not because she didn’t love him. And he brainwashed buzz into becoming one of his minions and have him do his bidding. And he was going to let a group of toys who saved his life burn in an incinerator. He is far from sympathetic.
5. Randall is nowhere near broken since he not only attempts to kill Mike and Sully for a petty reason just because he was embarrassed at the scare games, but he was going to torture a child too with his scream extractor. And possibly do the same thing to a thousand other children waternoose was implied to have kidnapped. Also even before Sully accidentally embarrassed Randall, he was already a bully as he played a prank on Mike and sullys team shown at the party. Also Randall is an awful boss to his assistant. So he should have been pure evil.

Just speaking facts. Randall literally already became a bully to Mike and sully even before he got embarrassed at the scare games. And sully embarrassed him purely by accident. And the worst part is i never felt any sympathy for Randall. At first I did feel sympathy for Lotso until I lost all my sympathy for him. But for Randall. I’d even say he’s more petty than Lotso and probably even syndrome. Like I didn’t feel any sympathy for him whatsoever. And just because he was accidentally embarrassed that doesn’t come close to making child murder ok.

He stopped liking Mike because of popularity. Randall literally abandoned and ditched Mike the moment Roar omega Roar invited him to his team. Randall had no issue humiliating Mike and sully in front of the entire university. At least when sully humiliated Randall at the scare games it wasn’t on purpose. And it didn’t excuse trying to kidnap and torture several kids as an adult

Scar is broken because of his origin story of his father Ahadi neglecting him. Ahadi loved Mufasa more than him and gave Taka(real name) a permanent scar when he was a cub. Uru(mother) cared and understood Scar tho. Sarafina, Zira, and the hyenas understood Scar too. The lion guard story is not canon, it’s not true. Scar also fell in love with Sarabi too and she also understood him too until Mufasa was king he took her away from Scar to be his queen and that’s when Scar slowly lost his mind and became evil also Zira manipulating him. Not saying it’s true but that story could be possible and more realistic in a mature way.

Exactly Sid is just a misunderstood child who had an abusive and alcoholic father and did shit to toys (most likely because he was bored. ) and as soon as he found out toys were alive he stopped harming them. He also became a garbage collector in the 3rd movie which means he’s moved on. So Sid isn’t a villain at all and he technically did nothing wrong. Exactly. Sid was having problems at home due to the fact he had an abusive and alcoholic father and what makes him more broken is that he was horrified when he saw his toys were alive. And he literally stopped after knowing they are alive. It really pains me when people say Sid is pure evil while Lotso and Syndrome are broken.

Yea. If you look closely when watching the 1st Toy Story u can see Sid’s dog (Scud) enter the room to look for Buzz and when he enters you can see someone sleeping (Aka Sids dad) and a tone of beer cans on the floor implying his father was an alcoholic.

I agree. He’s broken because of the neglect from his father Ahadi. Ahadi loved Mufasa more than him. The reason why Ahadi hated Taka was because of his physical appearance and outlanderish look. Ahadi also gave Taka(real name) a permanent scar when he was a cub. His mom Uru cared about him tho.

Sid is broken because as soon as he found out his toys are alive he stopped torturing and blowing them up, he was also horrified when he found out. If he was really pure evil he would have continued blowing them up after finding out they are alive. (BUT HE DIDNT) he became a garbage collector in Toy Story 3 basically implying he has moved on from harming his toys, And I would also like to say it’s implied he has an abusive and alcoholic father shown when his dog Scud was looking for Buzz as shown there was loads of beer cans.
