Totally agree. We live in the golden age of pocket knives and flashlights. I have Olight, Fenix and ROVYVON (yes, I know, UV option is a gimmick, but I like it)
For most of us (me being in my 50s). What would our grandparents have thought about all the new options? More than that, what options will be available in the future? mind-blowing to me.
For pre trip truck inspections I used a hammerhead gear keeper attached to a surefire side kick (they don’t make them anymore). The gear keeper was designed for scuba diving flashlights. I hooked it on a belt loop when not using the light it retracted close to my hand. A mechanic at our shop gave me crap about it until one night at the fuel island he dropped his barrel flashlight under the truck. I helped him find it with my flashlight that I never dropped.
Awesome video as always! I never need something so bright that I can blind myself (which I've done). I usually use the simple AA Maglite or the AAA Olight (can't remember the model), but something small and not brighter than the sun.
I have a ton of olight as I’ve always been a fan of the mega packs. That said, my favorite edc has been a tiny ace beam as of late. It came with a USB-C AA battery and it puts out 1000 lm. Small and compact yet powerful
I typically rotate my carry, but often the Rovyvon Angel eyes e1 is a regular. I find that the flex power system is nice to have when choosing either a battery powered or rechargeable flashlight. Because it has both and when one source runs out, you can switch to the other. USB-C charging is present and appreciated on this thing
I have absolutely abused 2 different Fenix lights for the better part of a decade and they still function as if they are new. I also really like the variations that Olight puts out, but I only have a couple of those as well. Looking to expand my EDC flashlight options though, as you can never have too much security.
I usually carry two lights. A surefire tactician for self defense and an Olight for utility. I own a TON of Olights and switch between them regularly. Mostly i3t, i5t, and s1r baton 2 varieties. I like having both so I’m not wasting defensive battery for something that isn’t an emergency.
I typically have 5 flashlights 2 in the car, 1 in my work pouch, 2 at home. The work and one car are just simple inspection lights. While the other car and home lights are larger lights in case of a blackout of I have to get away from my car for whatever reason. I use to have a key chain one but sadly it wasn't waterproof.
I have a few different Olights. The i5R is in my pocket daily for like a year now. It's perfect for what I need. Compact, low mode is great for when I need just a bit, the high is enough for most situations, USB-C means I always have a charging cable with me. I've beat it up and it just keeps going.
Love my little rovyvon a8, thing gets entirely too bright, and on the other side of things, the moonlight mode is perfect for not disturbing the family when trying to use the light late at night. Tons of battery life and a few party tricks is a plus. I like that it clips easily to my hat for headlamp usage. It got borrowed a half dozen times at the last camping trip so they must be doing something right.
last week i used my Baton4 on turbo to protect myself from 3 stray dogs in a cemetery (in daytime). from now one ill take my Seeker 4 Pro with me. in the near future ill edc the just ordered a gorgeous Dream Blue and Golden Warrior3S.
I keep a Streamlight Stylus Pro in my pocket for work everyday. 2 AAA batteries and single switch tail cap is perfect for looking in electrical cabinets For personal I keep the Rovyvon Aurora key chain light in my pocket. A light the size of my pinky packs a punch!!
I always grind my teeth when i see one of my coworkers in the construction services field,use their phone flashlight when installing heavy equipment in a dark utility room.I’ve even gone as far as to buy edc flashlights and give them away to people that are unfamiliar with the EDC world.
My 3 most carried lights.... the original warrior mini in camo the s2r baton 2 in desert 🏜 tan and the perun 2 mini....fantastic 90 ° light with awesome milling and a beautiful camo paint
I absolutely love my lights...all of them!!!! But talking just olight.... we've went diving with them.....and they absolutely went in and came out completely dry working with no problems....fantastic lights...especially the warrior series.... I'm a fan of the original warrior.. but they stopped making them a couple years ago... but for me..depending on what I'm doing.. for the most part unless I'm out searching for something or someone I want a bright capable light with a crenulated bezel rear tail switch and mag charging....and a high output 3500mah 18650.....
I used to have all Nebo Redline and just recently I bought an Olight mostly because they still offer the AA batteries and not just rechargeable options.
I used to think that EDC was excessive/ silly tacti-cool mumbo jumbo--then I moved to the country and I carry/ use all things everyday. My EDC flashlight is a $25 Amazon light that has worked well for me. YMMV
I do agree with next to knives flashlights are my next passion. And I carry a Wuben C3 carried one for 3 years and the wife bought me another one even though my old one is still good. It has great distance throw and really not expensive.
Most of the flashlights that I have are from Streamlight, the daily carriers all seem to be rechargeable, and my back ups mostly use CR123A (3 Volt lithium batteries).
I like my Olight. But unfortunately a had a time were it wouldn’t always click on so I only use it for around the house choirs. For an EDC flashlight when I absolutely need it to work I use an Elzetta Alpha. I’ve had it for years and it is way over built and just works
I have an olight keychain light and it’s great! And I also have a pen style light that’s got high low strobe. I’ve had the cheap knockoff tactical lights as well and have found that some just drain batteries all the time. Those ones I’ve gotten rid of. Headlights I prefer, but they tend to go into my hiking packs, whereas the flashlights go into my cars and pockets
I picked up an Olight Batan 3, not the pro or pro max, the regular batan 3, I find it is the perfect size for me, it's small enough to clip on my hat, and 1200 lumens is plenty of light for me..
I've been using Nightcore for literally close to, or more than 15 years. I've put some of them through hell. Handed them down to family and sold many. They all still work. Started a blackout kit thanks to X. It's been great for many situations. Have a nice 21700 interchangeable battery setup for lighting and secondary AA Battery options.
Just starting to look at these lights and EDC stuff in general and man some of these prices are too high. I liked a few square lights but can't see myself spending close to $100 on it.
I bought a Inova T1 twenty years ago. It had 35 lumens. Last month I got myself a Fenix E12, it has 160 lumens with AA battery. My next goal us 1000 lumens. Yes it's getting ridiculous.
After I got a small ti olight eos as my mini flood and a tn12 pro as a thrower I'm finally content with my torches and its been 5 months. I can't say the same for my knives though...but I must fight the urge to want every "new sprint run edition only special super rare one time only in production knife"
Great video and great advice. I love your videos. So good. I carry the olight arkfeld every day. I though it was ridiculous when I first got into EDC that people carried a flashlight everyday. But since I’ve started to carry one it is pretty amazing how often it comes in handy. BTW I’ve never had to look for my carburetor. Does anyone even know what that is these days. Haha.
Hey man, second vid watched. Good channel. My keys have a small 300 lumen Olight, don’t know the number, son has car at work. I edc a brown Olight Baton Pro. My car bag has a Fenix E36 with bland black camo, my let’s check the back yard light is a brown Olight Seeker 2 Pro.
I will never speak against the sheer Quality of Olight flashlights. Their customer service is superb. Their proprietary chargers (although they work well) and proprietary batteries (that can only be charged IN the flashlight) exclude them from my EDC, although as a collector, I own several Olight flashlights. My most often-used EDC flashlight, which normally rides in my shirt pocket, is a Sofirn SC21Pro. It ramps up and down, has USB-C charging, and uses a standard 16340 cell. If I'm more concerned about swapping batteries on the fly, I'll carry a Sofirn SP10 Pro, which is similar but uses any AA cell, from the included 3.7V 14500 down to a 1.2V NiMH. I also have a diffuser for that one. It isn't my primary because its side switch can be a little too easy to hit. Instead, I also carry a Lumintop Tool AA with its diffuser in a front pocket. Its tail switch is almost impossible to accidentally activate. It too runs on any AA. It is not my primary or only EDC light because its clip sucks.
Waiting to see if they drop the price on the edc27 for prime day. Anyone looking for a decent priced light I recommend the acebeam pokelite pretty much a rip off one of olights flashlights but I think it's better.
The Pokelit is superior to the i5R because it uses any standard AA, from 3.7V 14500 down to 1.2V NiMH. The Olight uses a bizarre 2.4V custom battery; it runs as a single-mode light with a 14500, and is not as bright using a standard AA. The Olight is also twice the price.
I'm with the next guy just as much....absolutely!!!I wish olight was made in the 🇺🇸... but that'll never happen and until they can be and offer the same features at the same price as olight... I'm gonna keep buying the olights I like.. one thing I'll say.. where they Excell... they're always striving to improve there products...and coming out with new stuff and cool colors!! They feel great in hand extremely well built very bright with stupid run times.... hard to beat for sure
I saw best damn edc carrying a 500$ light that while is titanium is still only two small LEDs. What’s with these boutique lights charging an arm and leg for subpar lumens?! I carry an olight arkfeld in orange it’s literally smaller than that bulky ass streamlight stiletto people swore by its aluminum and brighter and has a laser!. My MAIN light is the maurader mini. Small enough to fit in a sling but bright enough to be lost in the woods with 3 different color lights for 200$ People are getting so distracted by fancy drivers and programming on these Ti lights and none of it transfers to use ability. As an electrician I use lights more than most and have never needed more than the arkfeld/maurader mini. Simple 😂
The only thing ridiculous about them is the price and the reasons people pretend they need them. Keeping one in your truck kit or house is one thing even on your key change I get it. But in your pocket with your overpriced pen. C’mon man.
I have the balance of a toddler, so I pull mine out 1-3 times per day just to move in or out of a darkened room. Add dropped objects, the T-shirt I want out of a drawer, where's the cat (no not that one, the other one), and I use mine multiple times per day. You're absolutely right about pricing though; my Sofirn SC21 Pro was 1/3 the price of the most similar Olight.
Big fan of the Coast G22. I have simple requirements, compact, AA/AAA, and inexpensive. This way, if (when) I lose it, it doesn't hurt to replace it. Also a big fan of the streamlight microstream for the same reasons.

There IS a difference on those AAA Olights! The twist-on i3 EOS will NOT run on a 1.2V NiMH cell, but the tail-switch i3 EOT WILL; go figure.

A Streamlight ( Wedge ) Is in my pocket 24/7 for the last 3 years. So easy to carry. My first edc light and would never consider changing.

I like this one too. The only downside is the non-replaceable battery; eventually it is doomed to be a paperweight.
I just use harbor freight flash light got two of them for 2.00 works great and I did not spend ton of money for guy over 60
