Home Education teaches kids how to learn for themselves and they then learn how to think for themselves. This is the concept that is missed...

And I think that many schools don't currently possess the proper training or tools necessary to teach children who have different learning abilities, whatever that may be. I hear often from teachers that they have to deal with children who have "behavior problems", when in fact the child may just have a different way of learning and is expressing that in their own way.

He said "It begins and ends at the breakfast table." For me, it began with my parents taking me out of the public school system and I discovered there was a world of knowledge and other people outside of that classroom. My journey of learning within that world has yet to "end" 29 years later.
It is called home education and I believe it's one of the greatest gifts my parents gave to me but it does extend far beyond home. We don't give our children enough credit when we expect them to thrive in a box and a system that can only force square pegs into round holes.

I am here because I am looking for some encouragement. I am pulling all three of kids out of the public school system for the 23/24 school year. Wish me luck!

Schooled children are the ones missing out. Home schooled children have an incredible education. My daughter is highly socialised, confident, happy and working well above those in her age group. No bullying. One to one teaching. Working at their own pace. Choice of curriculum. It's a no brainer. The schooling system is a Victorian concept - one that forced itself on the population. We no longer live in the slums. School is, at best, free childcare for those who need or want to work. If you are worried about the safety of a child, indoctrination etc then it is society that needs to have a hand in safeguarding these children. All children in a community should be safeguarded. Home educators are often very involved in many aspects within their communities, mixing with other home educators, sharing skills, support etc and other members of the community. Busy, Ofsted pressed teachers often fail to flag children that are neglected.

The question,"Is traditional education over?," has already been answered. It's over, and it will not improve. Parents who truly care about their child's education need to adopt home schooling.

8:15 I agree. Children should socialize with other kids. But they shouldn't be learning behavior from other kids. They should learn how to behave from adults. Watch Lord of the Flies if you don't believe me.

That argument for school is the most insane, yet it's the one they love the most. "Socializing"?! Yes, I got all the socializing I needed in my ten years of Swedish state school. I was bullied, frozen out, called names, beaten, and no one came to my help. It went on for years, and my bullying wasn't even that severe, on the scale of things. My husband (from Georgia) had the same experience.
It's insane to throw a bunch of children together - who have by default not been able to properly develop empathy and social skills yet - to teach them to develop empathy and social skills! The dominant and aggressive children prey on the quiet and submissive, and it's basically like throwing the lambs to the wolves, to "socialize".
In the way humans are meant to live, we have small groups of 30-150 people, with only a handful of children in the same age group at any given time. They are always around older (more mature) children, and adults of all ages. The world we live in today, putting 30 kids in a room with one adult living in constant denial, is absolutely insane. And now I am only talking about the social aspect.

As a mom who was very against homeschooling by saying they arent “professionally educated or good enough” the last yr Ive learnt so much about our school system, their pushy curriculums and teachers who do not care or want to push their believes” into children (per their social medias) Ive gone and done a 180. I rather homeschool and outsource a tutor when needed❤🎉
Nobody can change your mind to the idea of homeschooling but yourself. Your own research, your own experiences and your own heart❤😊

Home education, not school 'programming'. I home schooled mine and they passed all their exams.

Walking unexpectedly into the classroom to find two teachers holding my child horizontally - so he could not move, crying his eyes out, in some 'tough love' act - did it for me. We were gone.

Homeschooling does not ostracize students from social interactions. It's not like homeschooled children don't have opportunities to go outside where there are other kids/people around. That narrative needs to end. Sheesh.

This interview is very short sighted, and misses many aspects that makes up the label of homeschooling. Home education is so varied yet it seems most make it one box. I liken it to discussing chocolate cake and assuming a well rounded discussion has been had on dessert. In America, state and local governing entities play an important role in reporting, available programs, tax money, etc in addition to the many methods, philosophies, programs, curriculum, co-ops, etc. that make up each homeschool.

Doing a PGCE does not mean the teacher is going to be any good, its the opposite from what i've seen, the university that hands out these PGCEs is a business and makes a killing from handing them out.

Only 48,000?? I thought there would have been much much more, you can deliver an amazingly differentiated, enjoyable curriculum, even better if you're an educated parent, the teachers employed at schools seldom are any good.

You could never give the same differentiated learning, one-to-one attention you get from homeschooling in a classroom of 30 kids, all educated parents should look to do this if not for their entire school life but for a few years at least, you can take them on cultural enrichment trips, study while you travel the world, the concept of lumping so many kids in a class is such a disrespectful concept.

Should have been normal in 1960s/70s to stop “permissive era”. Children shouldn’t be nationalised. Let faith schools teach their way no lgb.. indoctrination, abortion, pre martial sex etc
