  • In an exclusive interview, the Chairperson of the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights discussed the alarming increase in child trafficking where minors are being forced into sex slavery, and praised the Capital Police for their rescue efforts. She emphasized the enforcement of laws such as the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, and the POCSO Act, 2012, which are designed to safeguard children against such heinous crimes.
The Chairperson highlighted that traffickers are exploiting key exit routes such as the Naharlagun railway station and Hollongi airport to carry out their illicit activities. She proposed the implementation of Child Help Desks at these locations, in line with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) set by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India, to aid children in distress in a meeting with the railway officials and the Child Welfare Committees of Itanagar and Yupia to enhance child protection measures.
Addressing the role of parents, the Chairperson urged them to remain vigilant about their children's contacts and social media interactions to prevent the possibility of them falling victim to trafficking. She underscored that community awareness and proactive measures are crucial in combating the growing menace of child trafficking and ensuring the safety and well-being of the state's children.
