That's me. I am doing it next week. And I am a freshman. I haven't even dome my ice-breaker yet. And moved to Australia from Russia just 2,5 months ago and, obviously, I'll be performing the Toastmaster role in English - my second language. Thanks for your guidance here. It is concise, instructive and encouraging.

Thanks for the feedback. I am pursuing this journey about 25 years later than I should have, but I'm really excited for the opportunity to grow! I actually realized I need to develop this area of my personality when I caught myself feeling anxious during a Zoom call and acknowledged it was negatively impacting my ability to express myself.
Good for you for having that level of self-awareness and willingness to work on your public speaking. I still get nervous for some Zoom calls/public speaking opportunities. Practice is the best way to get that anxiety under control and harness the nervous energy in a positive way!
I didn't realize I would be speaking during my first meeting, and, even there were only 6-10 attendees, I was nervous. I was trying to speak for 2 minutes, but only did 45 seconds. I'm hoping that as I get reacclimated to Zoom and the format of the meetings, I can chill out a little and be myself. @@wadepaterson
Very well done. Also, as a Canada-born American, I did notice your pronunciations of "sorry" and "about" that tip you off as a person from the "Great White North." Are you indeed a Canadian?

Hey Wade, took the role of being the toastmaster now as you helped me nail the auxiliary roles :D Would love your inputs on the below questions, 1. As Christmas is around the corner I'm thinking of making the theme of the meeting christmasy (meeting is on 15th Dec) so any fun theme names in your mind would be helpful. 2. I was thinking to do something unique at the very beginning of the meeting to get the audience's attention like humming that "we wish you a merry Christmas" song by just doing ting ting tingtingtingtingting and then telling the audience that it would have sounded alot better if I had my guitar and then go on to start the meeting. So is this opening okay or is it a bit cringey/lame, also any other unique openers would be appreciated on your end. 3. And lastly people use some random stories or questions to fill in the gaps in the meetings. Is there something else that I can do apart from these to make the meeting interesting and engaging? Also any fun ideas on what sort of questions/stories I should ask?. I would love if you can provide any sort of suggestions regarding the upper questions or even any other tips you have as I'm still new to the club and at times have no clue as to what I should do :/
Good for you for taking on the Toastmaster role! 1 - I think a Christmas-related theme is a great call. One thing you may want to be sensitive about is, depending on the group dynamic, some people may not celebrate Christmas, so something along the lines of "Holiday Memories" might be a more inclusive theme. 2 - Your suggested humming intro would certainly be memorable and will definitely catch the audience's attention. Perhaps you follow it up with a powerful intro sentence after humming: "Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, fellow Toastmasters! I wanted to start the meeting off by humming one of my favourite Christmas carols, because to me, the Holidays are all about the music in the air...." 3 - It's nice to have transitional short stories or fun facts inbetween roles. You could Google "random facts about Christmas" and use those are transitional statements. You could also add in personal themes such as: Best Christmas gift you ever received, favourite Christmas carol, when you learned the truth about Santa, etc. Good luck!
@@wadepaterson thanks for the suggestions... The reason as to why I can't keep the theme to just holidays in general is because we had a meeting 2 months back with the same theme... So I was thinking "A merry Little party" or "X-mas X-citement" something like this for the theme? Also for the fillers I don't think some random questions or facts are gonna be efficient here as we're in India so I was thinking to have some sort of mini games like pick 2 people at random and ask them to sing "jingle bells" in a creative funny way and some other games like this to help make it all engaging and fun for everyone no matter the ethnicity....thoughts on this and/or any other Mini games/any other filler ideas?
@@gurvanshsingh3018 I love your creativity! I'd say go for it. Personally, if I were asked to sing Jingle Bells, people would want to plug their ears (I'm not a very good singer, ha!), but if you ask the right people who have the personality for it, it could work really well. Secondary idea is you could have trivia of some sort, and anyone who answers correctly, you could bring little candy canes and hand those out as a reward. Best of luck. I have thought of "what was your reaction when you found out Santa wasn't real?" But I believe I need more questions/content that'll help me make it through the meeting and at the same time be diverse so as everyone from every religion would get my point?
I recently joined toastmaster club and all of the sudden the VP asked me to take on the toastmaster role and iam little bit worry but I will challenge my self no matter what
Good for you for challenging yourself and stepping into a big role. My guess is that you are already a fairly strong public speaker and the VP has confidence that you'll be able to take on this role! The good news is, if you can get through the Toastmaster role, you're going to be well on your way and can handle any of the other roles.
