- Madeira is an epic place for landscape photography. There are so many incredible photo locations here, including from above the clouds.

Have you ever taken photos from above the clouds (while on the ground)? If so, what was your favourite spot?
Picos de Europa , Asturias . High coastal mountains with loads of clouds , very spectacular ( great cheese too ! )
@@wufflenutsbeen there, can confirm 😊
In Madeira too, but Serra da Lousã is amazing for that and its way lower than Madeira (1200m). Do let me know when you come to the Coimbra region 😁
Yers, and it was on Madeira! Hoping for more next month when I go back there. I knew your vid from the mountains would be awesome... and it is!
Definitely the landscape version…above the clouds, so amazing? 📸😎
I love the portrait mode one, but definitely the landscape mode was amazing, beautiful Madeira
yep, landscape orientation for the win.
Definitely the landscape version!
Interesting!
Smashing images!! Looks like an awesome place to shoot for sure!!!
Thanks Holmes
That looks incredibly epic! I feel like I could spend many hours at the top there exploring the mountaintops and taking pictures there with all the clouds below.
Definitely. The type of place you can explore for days with a camera
I agree on the landscape version of the sun star shot. Epic for sure and so much deeper. I might be tempted to take the hikers out as you don't really need them for scale in this case and there is a lot going on in the image. The path and everything is so perfect!
Brendan, I agree with you. The landscape composition is more dramatic.
You had me at "Hang out at the bar". The landscape image is not only powerful but beautiful. The cloud images are awesome 👍😍
Hahaha
YEP! the images did work, A great collection Brendan 👌😀
Thank you!
Every sunset location should have a bar, eh? Did they have coffee for sunrise? Great location. Great images. Carry on. 👍🥂
Haha.. The funny thing is the bar closed way before sunset, so we just sat in the wind freezing and taking photos
@@BrendanvanSon A sales opportunity lost.
Absolute banger at 9:13. I much prefer the landscape version. Nice work!
It’s a truly magical place. I got some of my best ever shots there. I cannot wait to go back. I think this time I’ll do the “live in the hire car for the weekend” type mission 😂
Haha, those are always fun missions
Bica da Cana, Pico Ruivo, Ponta São Lourenço are also nice for sunrise
Epic images Brendan, it’s not hard to see why you have been drawn to the island and look forward to seeing what you capture in the weeks and months ahead
Yeah, it's an incredible place. I think it's going to explode in tourism
Lovely images. Those ferns, wow.
Love the ferns, too!
What.A.Place ❤. Absolutely could watch the Timelapse of the clouds for hours
Awesome! It looks gorgeous. My favorite spot above the clouds was on Maui!
Oh man, I have to get to Hawaii.
@@BrendanvanSonCan definitely recommend! Maui and Kauai in particular. To be fair: Madeira is called the Hawaii of Europe, sooo you’ve practically been to Hawaii anyway!
They are BOTH great!
Thank you!
That sunstar photo from sunset made me shout out from my couch "woah!" I freaking love that shot man. I love a sunstar too and have been thinking of picking up that 15mm nisi sunstar lens for it.
Thanks dude. Glad you like it!
I went to Madeira in September for the first time. Really enjoyed being there. Did the sunrise at Pico do Arieiro which was touch and go due to the weather but got some decent shots but not the epic inversion ones you see. So will just have to go back sometime soon.
Definitely go back. One of the tricks is there's actually a webcam you can check online to see what the cloud ceiling looks like up there before going
is where i live i got so many good photos from my island next time let me know when you coming i can take you for a nice spots in the island brother
Oh man, I want to go back🤩🤩 The last location was epic, did some Astro photography here last week!!! When it comes to the images with the trail, I do prefer the landscape version!!
I've been up there about 12 times. It never gets old
I prefer the landscape version of that image. I see see opinions are split! 😂 They both work. You rarely crop, but the portrait version has too much blank sky and I would crop it way down.
9:14 Even though the landscape orientatation gives more context, the vertical on focuses more and the subjects sun and trail and it ends up being more catchy, i think
10:48 sequence of photos is eeeeepic
Interesting. I'm loving all the opinions and why!
Your twin brother, Thomas Heaton, would have shot a panorama.
Love the Narrow Crepuscular rays at 9:11 Hard to think the sun is so far away . Great shot 🙂
Thanks!
Re: your question at around 9:11, I've gone back and forth between the two photos, and I think the portrait one is the one that speaks to me more. The second one is more "pretty", but it seems to lack focus. The portrait tells a story, I guess I could say. Because of that, it has more of an impact to me. The brightly-lit golden path leads to the bright sun through the shadows of the mountain, with the golden clouds also countering countering the shadows, while crossing the gap they create. My thoughts...
Interesting. I too go back and forth on them. Each time I decide, I change my mind haha
@@BrendanvanSon I can see that! The landscape certainly has more eye candy, and holds the attention longer, which is a plus.
What a place! On the path image, like the landscape better, but portrait version would be an easy sell to Madeira Tourism for a brochure/mag cover or vert social media post of course...
I preferer the landscape orientation, but both look great, man!
Thanks!
Great videography and photography on a beautiful island, what Vloging camera are you using, very stable?
This is mostly Canon R6 and 14-35mm
Amazing views and amazing shots. What time of the year it is ?
This was in July.
Great shots! I think I preferred the portrait. The landscape just spread the focus too far to me comparably but I loved both.
Thanks!!
Additional comment: what happened to your autofocus at 11:15?
There was too much beauty for it to handle
