nope its about a group of american women partying and finding husbands in england... mostly house partying and getting drunk

The series is pretty good but the sound track is just wrong. Would have been more enjoyable if they used music that was more in tune with the times. The Buccaneers is supposed to be set in 1870, not 2023.
I completely agree. The modern music is jarring and distracts from the story. Bridgerton got its music right. It took modern music and restyling then to fit the period.

I would preferred if “The Buccaneers” had proper dialogue, Comedy, and manners, higher steaks in the plot like for examples segregation, chauvinism, ostracism, slander and real consequences towards American party girl actions and better and creative costuming and hairstyles on the American heiresses.
Facepalms* So what we're getting is faux Bridgerton? Christina Hendricks and the diversity are the only reasons I want to watch this! I want a thoughtful update on a classic piece of literature, not mindlessly copying popular trends in Period Dramas! The original miniseries in the 90s was beautiful! Have those beautiful costumes with this cast! But No, Duck Lips and Beachy Waves win! Thanks, We hate it! Tune into The Gilded Age instead?
Or go watch A Room with a View or Howards End instead? Both are Lovely and represent the book and Edwardian Era society in general pretty well! If you want to watch pretty people and dresses, stick with the Buccaneers!
I too love Christina Hendricks and I am all for a bit of a period romp (speaking of, I watched her as 'Chair' in 'Another Period' CLEARLY I don't mind them doing alternative things in the historical fiction genre but this series was simply bad. The costuming was poor, the hair and lack of period manners were ridiculous and why make Nan illegitimate, tbh I only got through the first episode, but this show made Sandition look like prestige telly. Please come back Bridgerton. We miss you!!!!!

They were catering to todays audience who wants to have diversity over the truth of history

@@fosterck13 so do I but the problem is "historical revisionists" attempting to rewrite history so it matches their fantasies.
In some central ways, the characters were “accurately depicted”, most critically Nan - she is still the same open, daring, young woman with child-like demeanors from the books. Jinny is still beautiful but lacks the charm, intelligence, and raconteur skills of her sister. Conchita is the same wild, scandalous character of the book, but while her Black ancestry is hinted/gossiped at, the show chose to make it explicit. Lizzy is still intelligent and knows how to scheme. The biggest changes are to Miss Testvalley (WHY make this awesome ally of Nan’s a raping villain?!), Theo (more soulful, i interesting, in love with Nan, and willing to challenge duty) , Mabel of course, and Seadown (though I think the way they’ve expanded him works). The spirit of Book Guy is present in Show Guy, though they’ve given him the awful motivation of wanting to marry for money.

As long as they're not marketing it is factual or historically accurate. If they are going to take creative liberties, they need to advertise it as fiction.
"Alternative version of history " you mean LIES. Period dramas aught to be historically accurate so that people don't make the mistake of thinking history was like this. Also I just love how its fine to mess around with European history but no one elses. Just fine to disrespect British history and its people but no one else.
I think ppl are aware that the gays and POC weren’t accepted then… they barely are accepted now. It’s an adaptation 😑
I agree, Bridgerton at least emphasizes it’s totally fictious and fantasy. I didn’t see a disclaimer for this show which is a mashup of so many different time periods and it’s laughably inaccurate. As a modern day viewer I know this but years from now what if people actually thought anything about this show was accurate…
