    Very cool. The great thing about using Arduino is that you can upscale later. You could go from the Nano to a Mega, and add relay modules for a more complex design

    thank you sooo much! i will be sure to make one of these for my display this year
    edit: i have finished it and the most difficult part was figuring out why the code would not upload to the arduino

      The hardest part for me too was the coding and getting that to work. Glad you figured it out.

    Thanks for this video. I have had a great time watching and making my own. Fyi, my relay came with a jumper on those other two pins so I did not have to supply both and tso the red wire in the USB.

    Common wire is supposed to be neutral wire and hot wire connect normal open or closed. Safer to break hot wire

      Thanks a lot I put a lot of time into making the video and it is a balance between entertainment and enough to do it yourself.

    the relay is not good. it seems to me that the relay will not last long.
    try it on field-effect transistors

    Very good video I know I'm late but I would be worried about the longevity of the relays after so many uses. So how is it holding up 2 years later?

      This (2020) Christmas i need to make it :) But The sketch is not available :(

    • @MakerMaxCorbett
      @MakerMaxCorbett  Před 3 lety

      It has been working great. The relays are good for 50,000 switches. The more power you put through them the less they last. The lights draw very little power.

      Sorry, write your own code. It is the "knight rider" light code under examples then modify it for your liking.

    • @MakerMaxCorbett
      @MakerMaxCorbett  Před 2 lety

      Like electrical sockets? Go to a hardware store and they are under $1.

    Thank you for showing this to us. Can you post the link to buy the relay that you have used. And if they have more then 8 pins .

    • @MakerMaxCorbett
      @MakerMaxCorbett  Před 3 lety

      Just search for it on Amazon. That is where I got it.

    @Maker Max Corbett could you please point out which light did you use for this ?. I tried using normal christmas lights with those 08 functions and it doesn't seem to work as the function adapter resets to off every time it switches on /off using the relay

    • @MakerMaxCorbett
      @MakerMaxCorbett  Před 3 lety

      I used color LED light strings. 200 lights per string. No special effects or chase lights.

    • @MakerMaxCorbett

      I did not use normally open. I used the normally closed side.

    Can see put the three scenarios in one sketch. And can you if you please post the code sketche for the three scenario

    • @MakerMaxCorbett
      @MakerMaxCorbett  Před 4 lety

      Google "arduino light chase code" and you will find it by other people. I think it might even be in the free sketches the software comes with. Then modify it.

      Check out the Arduino forums for help. Way easier then through comments here. I am not an expert with programming.
