Sensah Empire - Carbon Groupset UPDATE

- Last year I reviewed a lightweight carbon fibre version of Sensah's 11 speed Empire (sometimes called Team Pro) groupset.
Full episode - • Chinese Full Carbon Gr...
Overall the groupset was fanstastic. The shifting is great, the groupset is super lightweight, and it looks fantastic. However at the end of the episode I mentioned that I had a slight concern with part of the shifting mechanism.
I was worried that an aluminium lever arm (part of the shifting assembly), would eat into the much softer carbon fiber brake lever, affecting the overall durability of the shifters.
After 1200 miles (1930 km) of use, the damage is actually very minor. However Sensah took onbard the feedback, and have updated the design of their TeamPro shifters to prevent this issue altogether. - Sport
I have to imagine Sensah is paying attention to your channel at this point 😛
then just in case ... Sensah, please, hydraulic disc version of the Sensah SRX. Bonus points if you make them compatible with Shimano (i.e. mineral oil) disc brake calipers. Thanks :P
@@mireianievasrosillo8021 I second this motion. I find it baffling given all the cheap (but more than adequate for road/gravel) flat bar Hydro brakes coming out of china that none of these companies have produced one yet.
@@mireianievasrosillo8021 wouldnt that be amazing! I would buy real fast, I got a mechanical groupset of theirs and works like a champ!
definitely, i would say trace velo helps a ton in sensah sales by being the first youtuber to bring sensah to the masses.
also agree with above hydraulic brifter would be bonkers.
@@mireianievasrosillo8021 I got Shimano Claris disc brakes which I find amazing. I would like to keep them for a build with a Sensah groupset. Do you think that would be possible?
yooo nice. Sensah seems to be really good about fixing design flaws, I've been wanting to pick up the groupset.
Buy the real stuff.
@@carstenschroder7054 Yeah, I think in most cases I'd rather buy older high end used shimano but if I were to build up a chinese carbon bike like him, I'd go with Sensah.
The fact it made it out the design office like that should already be a red flag for everyone. Stop beta testing people!
@@Megadeth6633 pls have a look at hambini's channel and tell us where "real money" is translating to any quality? Brand name is not quality..
@@basti9522 What a load of horse sh1t you just shoved into my mouth for the sake of arguing. You're relatively right though
But I'll stay on topic. I'm not an engineer, however I have some years of experience laying and designing carbon fiber in my own shop, and have learned many basics in the matter. The flaw depicted in this short is nothing less than embarrassing. It's a no-brainer.
In a way, you are influencing these companies to keep on improving, thus giving us consumers a more reliable budget friendly option. So I thank you and other reviewers for the (perhaps) unintended but beneficial effect 👍
Luke, thank you for the info and may the 4th be with u
_Hello there_
i`ve bought the Sensha Reflex 2x8 Shifters and even they have an updated aluminium lever arm. in case anyone wants to know if Sensha made this upgrade only to the Empire Model i can deny, they have upgraded even the much cheaper Shifters.
Yes, got my own sensah ignate, pretty good shifter and smooth transition
Is ‘listening to customer feedback’ a synonym for watched content on Trace Velo? I would venture so.. Thanks Luke. Looking forward to more of your work.
Luke I hope they are at least sending you the groupsets for free, the exposure alone not to mention your R&D and QA for them that you are doing for free must be INVALUABLE.
it's better if he buy them so he can talk about it without restrictions
@@pakusssoohmnpe6646 yep, that and they could cherry-pick products rather than giving him what the average person would receive
Glad to hear they're receptive to customer feedback. Makes me want to buy something from them even more.
I love this groupset! I changed from shimano to this and is super worth it for the price !!
If only shimano was as responsive to fix problems with their products...
or if they solved them at all instead of consistently doing this ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Sadly, they don't need to
Excellent that you're testing and introducing us to these great affordable alternatives. How do we though go around purchasing a so called upgraded lever set without getting the older, inferior products?
Sensah should pay u some. They saved their $$ for r&d from ur feedbacks
Sensah is great feedback! Very nice to know
How do you make sure when you purchase the group set you’re getting the most recently updated model?
message them on ali, they replied the same day when i asked them about the upgraded lever that was the star of the show the first time Luke reviewed them
They look great, I'm tempted to throw these on a steel build
I have two sensah empire groupsets and I've found some problems and I'm wondering if you have the same issue, on both rear derailleurs there is alot of play where the bolt from the derailleur goes onto the mech hanger, this causes the whole rear derailleur to bend inwards and also sideways from not having tension on it, disrupting the chanline and also causing the chain to derail from the chainrings when I pedal backwards, looks to be from the mounting bolt maybe not having a wavy washer like some other derailleurs, seems there is literally nothing I can do about this and really disappointed to be honest.... That's on two identical derailleurs, do you have this problem?
No. I use the original Product. From the people who actually TESTED and THOUGHT about quality. But if you have to pet your Copy Cat....😌
Carbon fiber really needs a certain shield against an aluminium part to avoid or prevent galvanic corrosion.
I have thought of that as well, aluminium with carbon on top and it requires a protection at least in between.
Good to know Sensah response to this matter.
I wonder if his name is still Luke
Reminds me of the old microshift arsis levers I had.
I remember hearing rumours about a Chinese electric groupset about 2 years ago, I wonder what the status is.
The mtb version is scheduled to be released by the 3rd quarter of this year, and the road version to follow suit.
In fact the mtb version is already available for purchase, though I don’t See myself needing a set as I’m not a mtbiker, consist of a wireless shifter and an RD, ala sram eagle
@@11-inch Interesting, can't wait to see the reviews
Honestly this is the most sensible mechanical groupset at this point in time. And at such an incredible price point. Shimano's quality is increasingly coming into question and SRAM is just....
Ha! Just had my Ali Express Shimano groupset delivered……….front & rear mechs, chain, freewheel, levers with integrated shifters: Acera, it actually looks legit even though nothing was boxed. Total cost $100 NZD (about $60 plus post)
It# to go on a 1989 Cannondale…..with Mavic Oxygen M6CD rims…….utterly bombproof rims!
Thinking about getting this group set, since I'm running Shimano Sora on my Allez sport right now
I am waiting sensah to start full hydraulic brifter development... I will buy immediately after available in market...
You are their test mule Luke 😁
Quite ironic that a CZcams reviewer does more real world testing on the end product than the company that designed it.
Nice of you to beta test this stuff for them :-)
I've recently noticed that the alu lever is damaging the mechanism that used to be plastic on my groupset because I rarely stay in one gear and it is quite abused. It looks like a problem but I've only accidentally dropped from my 1st to my 11th gear twice so perhaps not really a problem.
Companies using buyers as beta testers, just like game developers where the product is already sold before the testing is finished.
I would actually expect that proper carbon fibre would be orders of magnitude harder than either the aluminium that is wearing it or the nylon that they are replacing it with.
They should just quality check their products to the point it no longer has underlying issues. The problem with this is users will have no idea what iteration they will get since what's out on the market will be sold along with the new one's. They could just slap a cut of thin aluminum (3mm or so) in that area instead of nylon
Aluminum to carbon interfaces will always experience galvanic corrosion because carbon is highly conductive, and the shifters are frequently exposed to salt, water, and acid, aka sweat. A high grade fiberglass-impregnated nylon like PAGF is going to last much longer in this application.
I'm still using ver1... Still working good but with 105 front derailleur
When have they launched this upgrade?
Why a bit of nylon plastic and not a thin slice of aluminum I wonder I would think a 1mm-1.5mm wafer of aluminum would work better than plastic, unless they want them to wear out.
basic fixing use glue a tiny part of gum o rubber or aluminum in contact lever and done.
Seems a bit silly they didn't pick this up earlier on?
Can anyone confirm Sensah SRX Pro is SRAM compatible?
Not so say it’s not “nylon” reinforced, but that almost looks like just straight epoxy. Could be wrong. Another solution would be to simply bond in 6000 series Al to impinge on the actuating arm
What’s with the gloves?
I would just glue a penny or something on there to stop the carbon wearing through
according to China Cycling, Sensah was founded by former SRAM Engineers. Maybe that's why they are receptive to customer feedback?
With companies like Sensah, the customer is the beta tester. This is why people have so many failures until they finally figure out what works and what doesn’t and release an updated version with fixes for all the problems. That’s why they’re cheap.
I just bought this. I guess I am returning it.
this is what R&D from the masses are ... they throw the products first and wait for the feedback ... fixing it when needed in the next batch, basically users are the lab rat
Yup. This is how these companies lower their production budget. They save money on QA and use the first batch as a test, taking in feedback and fixing it for the next iteration/production run. They are hedging their bets that only a small sample of customers will be dissatisfied and request replacement/refund as well.
Not throwing shade on sensah or anything, it’s a real business model…but customers should understand that it’s just the reality of these cheaper products. It’s not just cheap because the manufacturers are nice…
So the Sensah product is still in beta.
True. Also costs 1/4 of the comparable (and no doubt, much better) Shimano or SRAM parts.
The plastic broke for me after about 100km
These type of carbon shifters and brake levers are very dangerous and should come with hazard warning. As the aluminium eats away at the carbon. The rider is breathing in microdeposits of dangerous carbon fibre particles. Stay away from carbon fibre for health & safety reasons
Bad RD and quality control. They are ex-sram guys and should do better.
😂😂sensah shifting tech=shimano + sram😂😂
we waiting full hydrolic groupset😄
Rotor Uno 💀
A lume i num….repeat after me….say it slow ….
No thank you, we shall stick to the common worldwide pronunciation, as per The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) who, in 1990, accepted aluminium as the international standard.
al(j)ʊˈmɪnɪəm…..try ‘very’ slow at first, I know it can be tricky for non English speakers…
So: a cheap Shimano Ripoff "Company" is "improving" their Copy. Nice.😑 Have fun with that garbage.
