Big Car (Mini Mix)

- This 1990 video went with the first mix of "Big Car" by Robert Racic, which was quickly overtaken by a "Big Car Retread" and a new clip in 1991. Think of it as a first draft. I was strapped into a flying harness for the shoot, which took place in a squat called The Gunnery.
It's been requested many times over the years but I have waited for high quality AI de-interlacing and noise reduction applied to the best quality source available. The sound has also been repaired to restore the upper end. By doubling the speed to 50fps and enlarging the image we get a 'pretty good' copy, but keep in mind how very small a U-Matic field is - about 280px tall.
Designed and Directed: Garry Bradbury.
Actors: Garry as the bottle top welder, Richard as Ganesh, Robert as the hamburger, Tom as the centurion (and angel).
Dancers: Katherine, Becky, Leah.
Sets and Costumes: John Bartholomew, Garry Bradbury, Simeon Steel.
Amiga 500 & 2500 graphics: Tom Ellard. Edit and effects: Stephen Jones at Heuristic Video, 1990. - Hudba
I was on my way to a small town high school dance (think Footloose) to see a girl I met an amusement park. Just happened to stop by the record store and picked up a few records. Next to the Tainted Love Soft Cell 12" was this big bright pineapple on a yellow record sleeve, couldn't miss it, and I thought the name Severed Heads was cool and might be like (Everyday is Halloween years) Ministry or Front 242. Fast forward to the high school dance. The DJ failed to show up and I had a crate in my car and ended up gigging the night. When I opened up Big Car and played it on my headphones I was like :O whoa... massive bass. I spun it back, slid up the volume fader and mixed it in to the end of New Order's Blue Monday. Good God the crowd exploded. The bass ripped through the small gym, destroying the place and pitched up about 8% on the old Technics 1200 everybody was dancing their tails off. We footloosed the hell out of that place. "What is that record?!?" I kept getting asked. A golden pineapple of a banger.
Although my brother Tom (yes, I'm actually his slightly elder and crusty musician brother ) says to think of this as a "first draft" , the mix of 'Big Car' here along with this clip is still but one of my many favourites of his Severed Heads auditory and visual releases. Much intended homage from me.
???¿. Your. Brother .....,????
Aah. Yu. Suk. Yu are. Not his. Brother. .....are. Yu ..??????

@@r.s.dissendissen6752 It just so happens I am...🤣
Underrated band, way ahead of it's time.
Easily my favourite artist of all time. Basslines as leads. Genius.
Oh, his basslines are just the best - tight, punchy and with the perfect presence. Love you Tom.
I remember the first time I saw this. Friends and I were completely mesmerized watching it.
I remember tripping balls to this video back in high school 😂
Thanks for uploading this clip in it's original intended quality, Tom.
Reminds me of that Front 242 song "Feed the Felines."
Old Sound Newly Found - NOW! You're forever golden Tom! :)
Such An amazing song, wish this remix was available on Soundcloud or Spotify !
That knows exactly when they are going to be Fed...
A really good combination of vision & sound as always, variations on that theme (& having met Mr Racic by chance one lunchtime in Oxford St in 1990, it remains a lingering loss that he is not still ‘here’ doing sound-producing ‘now’...)
I dug out this 12 inch remix the other day-- great remixes....this song stood the test of time.
Thank you so much Tom. The music you make has truly defined Electronic Music. These videos are dope AF. I have to start pulling out the CD's again! Salute'
ALWAYS. SEV HDS. ALWAYS. .....🕺💫👈
Excellent it’s like 808 State meets New Order
Yo Tom.. if this is really you.. I just discovered you.. man, your work is incredibly inspirational.. I’m so glad that I discovered Severed Heads
Love the visuals on this, I’m always intrigued by the procession of characters, we see glimpses of them in various videos and even on the cover of the Clifford Album, I’d love to know more about them - great visuals though out your videos Tom!
Psychedelic!
Miss you.
Seeing this has made my morning..
The shots of you on that red kids play car makes me think of this video as The Wiggles on an acid trip
Tom thanks for taking the time to upload these
My Big Car is a kitten sitting and purring in my lap...
