- Over the course of his 12 year career, Jason “Mew2King” Zimmerman has been known as many things. He’s been the best Super Smash Bros. Melee player in the world, a frame data pioneer, the only player to be ranked number one in both Melee and its sequel, Super Smash Bros. Brawl at the same time.
He’s been known as one of the hardest working and most-travelled players in Smash. He’s been known as a champion, a disappointment, a meme, a fan-favourite, a god and a robot.
But above all else, Mew2King is proof that anyone who works hard enough can be the best.

Slightly inaccurare on my stat lists: i did these all before tournaments, and it barely matters at all. I just didn't start fighting other good human opponents until late 2004, and there's only so good you can get / so much you can learn from playing computers alone.

Also, i was conditioned to believe years ago that splitting was the "right" thing to do (instead of the "wrong" thing to do), because it meant i wasn't being "greedy". I should make my own video on this to elaborate. I probably will actually.

Its okay, let the past stay in the past. You're right, the Smash scene was VERY different back then and a lot of players, including myself, have split the pot.
Splitting was pretty common in the StarCraft scene as well. I don't have a top player perspective but I imagine it's far more common than people think. I don't think that there's anything inherently wrong with it, especially when people are playing for their livelyhood
Splitting pots is also common practice in a lot of other competitive games tbh, especially in local scenes. I used to split top 8 and then play it out for show/honor while playing MTG all the time.

this feels incredibly biased. m2k's successes were completely downplayed, and instead the dialogue is mostly around his controversies. I was hoping for more narrative and resolution, but you're left with the video abruptly ending after m2k is painted as a villain. mewtwo king will always be a legend and one of the most unique and interesting smash gods. this video just feels like it's the tip of the iceberg.

This is so cool because what most people don't get to experience is someone they really admire or just someone famous, both in this case for me, coming from their town, especially a small ass town like Cinnaminson. My friend's brother was in the same class as Jason and said that he'd always be in class figuring out damage charts and kill percentages and stuff basically any time he saw him. I am now a senior and it's cool to think that im walking in the same places he did everyday, and I am one of a few people in this town that actually know it and care. I've asked teachers around the school if they remember him and no one seems to know of a "Jason Zimmerman" which is incredibly unfortunate. But you're a great inspiration and actually give a little bit of meaning to this tiny town outside of Philly.

Dude I’ve been binging your documentaries lately and I love em so much. Helps me become more knowledge about esports that I didn’t get involved in when I was younger. I’m a casual Smash player and I enjoy watching well put together videos.

No one is "naturally skilled". Skill takes years to refine and m2k succeeded because he spent that time wisely instead of trying to run through a brick wall, like most of those people who fail to reach MLB
@@wudduplele to be fair, there is a difference between a physical sport and an esport. What you guys call natural skill, i assume refers to genetics, which yes, do play a part in determining high level competitors in a physical sport, like baseball . However, i doubt the same applies to esports like smash.

tbh what i realise is if mew2king took any smash game seriously ad constantly studied every part of it including his opponents and the meta he would be unbeatable.

I didn't know anything about the competitive scene back then (well, post Ken/Isai/KDJ/PC Chris era) and when I entered my very first tournament, my first opponent ever was the King himself. Needless to say, I never went to another tournament after LOL. But I did start following the scene and over time, M2K grew on me and he's one of my favorite smashers of all time.
Kinda wish they talked about why he rocks back and forth in his chair so much XD

I love m2k. Idk why he’s always been my favorite. He’s good, and when he’s at the top of his game he’s the best. But it’s easy to see that he’s not always there. He’s had a lot of controversy surrounding him and some of it probably comes from the social awkwardness. Which doesn’t give it an excuse, but it accounts for some. I just like him, he’s funny and he’s good. Always gonna be my favorite
