  • Track 2 from their tenth album released in 1975 copyright Purple Records. It was recorded at Musicland Studios in Munich, Germany and was produced by Martin Birch and the band. After the release of the "Stormbringer" album the year before, Ritchie Blackmore quit the band and formed Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow with vocalist Ronnie James Dio. They released their self-titled debut album in 1975. Blackmore is one of a kind, so the remaining members of Deep Purple were faced with the difficult task of finding a guitarist capable of bringing a similar level of skill and excitement to the band. David Coverdale suggested Jeff Beck or Rory Gallagher. Beck was busy recording "Blow by Blow" with producer George Martin, which would become his breakthrough release and best-selling solo album. Rory Gallagher was also busy with his own solo career. After hearing Billy Cobham's album "Spectrum," Coverdale and the band were impressed by session guitarist Tommy Bolin's work. While recording his debut solo album "Teaser" he received a call from Coverdale asking if he'd like to audition at Pirate Studio in Hollywood. Clem Clemson of Humble Pie had already auditioned and been rejected. Bolin agreed and his audition resulted in a jam described as explosive and extraordinary and he was hired on the spot. Ritchie Blackmore considered Bolin a good choice as his successor. Tommy got along with the other members and soon developed a close friendship with Glenn Hughes. They bonded over their love of funk and this album was Deep Purple's funkiest yet. The members later realized they should have changed the name of the band to reflect that it wasn't your older brother's Deep Purple. Unlike Blackmore, Bolin used more guitar effects like his beloved Echoplex and MXR phase shifters and he also took more advantage of the studio's benefits by recording double-tracked guitar parts. The sessions were hampered by the drug use of a couple of members. Glenn Hughes had an ongoing cocaine addiction which led him to return to London to seek rehab halfway through the sessions. Tommy Bolin took full advantage of his first trip to Europe and was regularly at the Munich clubs feeding his heroin habit, which the band was unaware of. Drugs also affected the band's tour for the album, which became a disaster due to poor performances. Hughes relapsed soon after and he and Bolin were often barely able to play, with Jon Lord playing Bolin's solos on synthesizer. By the end of the tour, everyone agreed that the band could not continue and Mark IV was no more. David Coverdale returned to Germany and began a solo career, releasing two albums before forming Whitesnake. Jon Lord was an original member and was with them for six albums. Ian Paice joined for their third album until their fifth. Tommy Bolin released his second solo album "Private Eyes" and toured to support it as the opener for Peter Frampton and Jeff Beck. In late '76, while with Beck in Miami, he overdosed on heroin, cocaine, barbiturates and alcohol and was found in his hotel room the next day. He was only twenty-five years old. This album received above average reviews and was praised by critics for its sound and style. U.S fans weren't as enthusiastic to embrace the new band but they had better success in the rest of the world. It reached No. 43 in the U.S. Recorded from the original vinyl. She was a jukebox dancer, a blue-eyed gypsy queen
She always had an answer for what she'd done and where she'd been
A feather-cane Lady Midnight for all around to see
She spoke with words of wisdom and this is what she said to me
    Lady Luck
Come on give me what I want, pull me up
    Lady Luck
If I see you again, I will call you my friend
Well, I've always been a sinner but then the lady came along
She stole my heart and turned me 'round till I didn't know right from wrong
She whispered words of kindness I never, ever heard before
Golden words and silver tongues till I really couldn't take no more
    Lady Luck
Come on give me what I want, pull me up
    Lady Luck
If I see you again, I will call you my friend, mmm-mmm-mmm, yeah
    Lady Luck
Come on give me what I want, pull me up, ha ha
    Lady Luck
If I see you again, I will call you my friend
    Come on save me
    Lady Luck
Come on give me what I want, pull me up
    Lady Luck
If I see you again, I will call you my friend, mmm-mmm-mmm
    Whoa, whoa, whoa-ooh-oh-oh
    Mmm-mm-hmm
    Ha, ha, ha

Great band, love the synthesizer, guitars, love the song! Sounds like the man realized he fell for a good woman and he wasn't used to it! He was spoiled could get any girl he wanted but none meant anything to him. He was growing up.!! Lady Luck was the winner!!
