For the life of me I cannot understand why no one has made a vertical case for the 705 to make it like a prc-150c. Under the 705 would be a nice battery. Where are the 3D printing designers? Excellent video Julian.
One of the things I have noticed is that the price for the existing TX-500 is starting to drop some. Whether or not it gets back down to its pre-war pricing remains to be seen. They were originally made in Russia, but as sanctions and the war in Ukraine took effect, the supply of these radios dwindled and the sub-$900 USD price tag in the US climbed to nearly $1200. The moved production to UAE and has the supply has increased the prices have started to trickle back down. 6 months ago, the Milwaukee branch of Ham Radio Outlet was the only one that had any. Now all the stores are indicating they have them in stock. It's very likely to be my next QRP rig.
Looks really interesting but I'd have to sell my original lab599. A side-by-side comparison of features would be great once you have one to try out. Thanks for all the great information!

I really don't want to ask this one, but it is a concern. Is LAB599 doing anything to address the service issues here in the US. I understand there is a parts supply issue, which I'm sure is due to world events. The only service guy is reportedly having health issues. People claim to have been waiting over a year. It is unfortunate, but this is a deal breaker in my opinion.
This is exactly the same problem we have with Elecraft in Europe. Thsnkfully, I have never had a problem with my TX-500. So i've never needed to send it off for support. A better place to ask this question is probably the Lab599 FB group.

For those who don't have a Ham or GMRS license, what is the best free band to use for the longest range communications, text or voice I've done limited research, and so far have concluded LoRa meshtastic devices running 915 MHz is the best choice for long range, but im still in the noob catagory on this topic.
LoRa is reliant on the MESH network. Unless there is sufficient mesh network density, success will be limited. To answer your question: define "long range". For HF, long range is hundreds or thousands of kilometers/miles consistently with a highly repeatable success rate. This without any intermediate infrastructure. LoRa is popular, but only practical where a high density of other nodes exist.

I recently heard on CZcams, the 900 MHz bandwidth limit's the LoRa mesh network to approximately 100 nodes before the system starts to bog down. That prohibits an effective nation-wide mesh network I've heard CB radios can utilize atmospheric skip to transmit hundreds of miles, so that might also be a "license free option" at some point. I'm looking into that option. My initial idea was to create a neighborhood 915 Mhz LoRa text messaging mesh network utilizing meshtastic and ATAK so locations can be verified. At this step, (step 1 of protocol 1), I guess I'm looking for the best "license free frequency" (don't want to piss off the FCC) to transmit voice over the longest range possible, without resorting to skip.
