  • In this video I'll be showing how to teach your horse to do liberty with my 3 year old miniature horse Nemo. This is the first day that I worked with him and started teaching liberty. Ill be explaining all the beginning steps that I take the first time I work with a horse.
    Feel free to try this on your horses (or ponies ;) ) and let me know if you have any questions I would be glad to answer them!
    Hopefully I will be making more videos on the next things that I do so that you guys can see the progress we have made!
    Remember that training doesn't come over night, you need to be 100% dedicated!

    I love seeing someone treat their horses with respect and love. I am always so afraid to click on "teaching" videos because some of them are just so cruel and disgusting. You are an amazing young lady and you have so much patience which is rare. Great work and I have subbed :-).

I'll start with the whip to refresh his memory, but he's doing great! thanks! ;) I'm also teaching him to bow. he's doing good with bowing to. just thank you!!!

    I just want to tell you, that i have used this method of teaching my pony liberty, and it worked VERY well for my pony and me. I have in a long time haved problems with my pony in groundwork, because he think it is boring. He ran away from me everytime i told him to do a trick or something and i couldn´t catch him again. Today when i tried this, he ran to me with so much energy and happiness, with his ears focused on me. I could take the rope away and make tricks and he stayed with me all the time after training this liberty. :D So thank you for sharing these amazing videos, it definently helped me! :) (Sorry for bad english, i´m from Denmark. :P )

      Turn the grass to.your advantage .....do exactly the same steps as in this video and add into the game "its not time to eat"...... put your attention on me my dear horse!" and you will end up with an even stronger bond than if you worked without grass! I dont have an arena - I have to work on grass !!!! Its harder to start with but the end result is a stronger bond.

      +Allison Gillmore Actually, ANY horse is capable of learning this type of thing. If you're controlling the feet (Like she is in the video, such as moving his feet when he wasn't paying attention to her) any horse under the sun will understand the concept, because that is how horses communicate among themselves. :)

But one question though; does anyone know how to teach your horse to back up when you stand behind him? 🤔 I've seen a lot of people do it and I'm very curious about how they taught the horse to do it 😊

    I thought I would try these things with the horse I lease to spice up the boring arena work . He's not sensitive to the whip at all, is happy to follow me around the arena, zig zagging etc, but as soon as I run, he either stops and watches me go or just ambles along , eventually catching up to me. Is this just something he's doing because this is the first time we've done this or can I do something to encourage him to put more energy into it?

    Is there an extra step you can do with a very nervous and naughty horse? I have a horse at my barn that’s always very separated from the herd and I want her to be able to build a relationship with someone or thing. She’s difficult to handle because of her previous owner, who was very inexperienced and ended up being harsh otherwise, so I don’t know if this will be a good starting place for her. Thanks so much for the tutorial!

  • @TriggerandGrace
    @TriggerandGrace Před 9 lety +13

    Hey thanks for the tutorial! I'm so glad you made a video on how to start liberty, because I've been looking so hard to find a good tutorial on how to start it. Most of the videos I've watched were extremely long and didn't explain things very well. But I do have a question...what if you have an extremely lazy horse like mine that prefers to stand there like a potato instead of playing? Lol because I can barely get him to a fast walk. He's not motivated to go faster with treats or anything. I've tried using lots of energy and exaggerating my movements but he is literally the laziest horse I've ever met haha.

      LivingLouder My horse is like this too! Hahaha. She'll just stand there and very lazily take steps when I ask her to follow me.
      I really love these tutorials, though. I think It'd be great if Oreoliberty could make more videos on how to really get your horse's attention and connect with your horse.
