  • 6 programmes contrasting the “Now & Then “through a wealth of archive film from the 30’s 40”s up to present day. The series focuses on the West Country and takes us back in time through the eyes of amateur cinematographers. The result is an absolutely stunning picture of the life of people, farmers, hunters, residents and others, in the years just before World War 2.
From the 1930’s to the present day enthusiastic cinematographers have made a unique record of life in the Somerset town of Dulverton. Captured on camera, this film includes intimate footage of a community, which has had to endure a natural disaster while adapting to the ever-changing world. We go back to Dulverton to find the film makers and those who took part, to create a vivid portrait of NOW & THEN.

History is never important the day it is made, time makes it more so...Many thanks to the camera club for taking the trouble to make the record...

I love this small town. I call it my little piece of Heaven. And I miss it so.

very informative film from 2001. Pity there was not any mention of the railways and the comparatively large station just outside the town centre. I worked for SWEB (South Western Electricity Board) in Taunton in 1970 > 1976 and Dulverton was one of our few remaining Branches where I had a small link. We had a shop there but more importantly a Branch Manager (can't quite remember his name) and he was multi talented - he could sort out the overhead lines (both high voltage and low voltage), individual electricity feeds to shops, offices and houses including new supplies, repair electrical appliances (kettles (new elements), irons, washers, spin dryers, etc.), work as an electrician for wiring houses, work part time in the shop, be available for electricity emergencies for anyone in the town, etc, etc. He retired, the shop closed and all business moved to Minehead. Other the other local SWEB shops also closed in S. Molton, Wiveliscombe, Bampton, Milverton etc. I loved my time working for SWEB which itself has now gone. 11 May 2018.
