I always remember the Bullets with Mahorn and Ruland. Tough duo.
Met Ricky Mahorn once at an autograph signing. My sister and I asked if we could also take picture with him. One of the guards, or whatever they’re called, said no pictures, but Rick said ‘ yeah, sure! We can take a picture ‘ and waved us in. We went behind the table and got our picture. He’s so nice. My favorite Piston.
He’s a great guy in retirement 😆

Bird never had an issue with Mahorn's physical play. 'You knew he was gonna hit you, but he wouldn't try to hurt you'
Yeah, Mahorn wasn't dirty, and was a smart player. He knew how to play those head games.
You could say that about every player pn that team. Physicality was their identity. Just like the Pat Riley knicks. Laimbeer was the exception though since he pushed the envelope in physical play and resorted to injuring people on purpose sometimes.
@@angrymobsters1599 he was rugged, maybe borderline dirty at times. Laimbeer & Rodman were dirty.

Rick Mahorn was an amazing player and a vital piece of that Detroit Piston Team. As a youngster it was sad to see him go after the championship. ✊🏽✊🏽

I wasn't sad to see him go...I really hated him at the time. My goodness him and Laimbeer did their best to bring the NWA to the NBA..lol. One thing tho - now that I hear his barber story - he always had the freshest fade haircuts every game. Great stories, unforgetable player.

I am a big Celtics fan but I always enjoyed seeing Mahon play with Detroit.
He gives a good interview and is a nice gentleman.

Rick Mahorn I met in Connecticut, I was with one of his tight partners, I said out of everyone I would take your autograph. He was going to, I said let's just have a great time. That's enough. 100 on Rick!
I watched many Bullets games when Rick Mahorn and Jeff Rulland were youngsters and they were BEEF brothers & badasses. Way before Detroit badboys.
Max is a great interviewer. He needs to do a 2 hour podcast w/ Larry. Max and Larry is the great Celtics mystery
there is no mystery...Max took his time rehabbing an injury in 1985...he was very care free about how he went about it...he was never ready for the 1985 playoffs...probably cost the Celtics the championship

I loved these players. It was a completely different NBA. There was hand checking, going down the lane was taking your life into your own hands, scoring was lower, defense was played and everyone want to play every game.

A very interesting interview. I think Mahorn is a genuine, tell it like it is, person. I did think Adrian Dantley was hurt pretty bad in that collision with Vinney Hohnson. If I remember correctly, I could be wrong, but he was out cold, and stretchered off the court, possibly out of the building. Somebody correct me, if I am wrong. I do remember that was a very hard, head to head collision.
Yep they took AD to the hospital after that collision. He was playing well too. Combined with the 35 Dumars dropped Pistons very well could have won game 7 @Boston.
@@salaamthompson I agree. Dantley and Dumars were both very good, and not quite as Bad Boyish as some others. And Vinney was badly shook up, which , when he got hot, look out. If not for that collision, who knows? It wasn't looking real good for the home team before it happened.
Did these guys forget the game that Parish punched Laimbeer was the same game that Bird steals the ball at the end?
Game 3 - Laimbeer takes Bird down by the neck, Bird throws the ball at him, both were ejected.
Game 4 - Parrish punches Laimbeer, both were ejected & Parrish was suspended for Game 5.
I love watching Game 5 & that steal, the Avenging Angel coming at Laimbeer!
@@MsStolf I think your wrong. Parish punches Laimbeer in Boston Garden. It couldn't be game 3 or 4. And from what I remember no one got thrown out. I don't even think there was a foul call. I haven't really looked it up so I'm going by memory...I could be wrong about which game it is though but it definitely wasn't game 3 or 4.
@@MsStolf Game 3 Laimbeer and Bird get into it with Bird throwing the ball at him...Parish waits till they are back in Boston for game 5 for his payback punch. No technical and no one was thrown out or suspended, which would've been unheard of at the time. What do you think this is, 2020s basketball???
@@poker2face , thank you for the correction. Parrish did punch Laimbeer in game 5 , no one was ejected & no foul called. Parrish was suspended for Game 6 & fined $7500.
@@MsStolf And I didn't even know that they suspended him for that. I guess they had to do something lol. And that's insane not even a foul called on that play 🤣. You would be banned for life if you did that today.

The league shouldn't have done that to Mahorn. Mahorn didn't leave because he wanted to. The NBA made him leave. He was great in carrying out the "Jordan Rules" with Rodman, Laimbeer, Salley, and Edwards. I hated Detroit at the time because they beat MJ and the Chicago Bulls. At 8:20 he said he would've been part of the infamous walk off in 1991, had he still been a part of the Pistons.
I agree I also want to add that I think there was more to the Xavier McDaniel contract resigning dilemma not because they couldn't meaning the Knicks couldn't match it but because two things David faulk was both McDaniel Ewing and Jordan agent. I will always believe the NBA stepped in and said no way .this series went 7 games in 92 and immediately was a threat to the bulls which also the way they man handle pippen it was a threat to what the NBA wanted to promote moving forward with marketing the brand globally. And isn't it fitting it was the block on Charles Smith the next year who we all deemed as soft to go up and throw that down . The X man would have went up and either thrown it down hard or got fouled . That 92 series between New York and Detroit first rd was the end of one physical party and the start of another and the NBA to me didn't want that .

Let’s not forget Bird broke his hand in off court incident in first round. Ced being injured certainly hurt. Red getting pissed and trading ced for a 80 game rental of Walton may have cost the Celtics a chip in 87 and 88

Ok. I'm going to say it ? Larry was more black with his attitude than he was in his white skin. Larry learn how to play from older black guy's when he was a kid in Indiana. Larry Bird is not a racist not at all. And Larry and Magic and Michael are the only 3 NBA players or athletes that can go in any neighborhoods in America and the world and would have no problems none ? And maybe Charles Barkley also. They didn't care about race or politics. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
