Those who are planning on doing Bachelors in English Literature as a literature student I will suggest you few things before you choose English honours.
Everyone has a misperception about English literature, people assume that we will get to study the same English as we study in our school and high school. Remember English literature is a whole history, where you have to learn Indian classical literature, European literature, american literature, as per centuries like 16th,17th centuries something like that and so on. Where we learn about their culture, their ethnicity, their believes and political issues of those times. So basically you'll be able to study history, political issues, theology, mythology,.prose, poetry, critical analysis everything. You'll read one whole noble for one syllabus, if you got 8syllabus, you'll study 8 nobles for syllabus if you're creative at writing it will be a benefit, we can't sustain from copying the notes, it will not help you grow, career wise. I'm not here to frighten you, but to give you a reality check, study only if you're interested, that way you'll able to catch up well.
Ps-I have seen a lot of people commenting about grammar. We don't study grammar in English literature.

English was not the subject that I kept in my favourite list, but observing the increased demand of English in contemporary society, I decided to go with English Literature as my graduation subject. Initially, I stumbled on many occasions, I was even unable to pronounce any word properly. But after putting all my effort in reading text and doing learning practice... I have become one of the best student in my class. The professors have all their appreciations for me.
My message is that Just don't give up. Even if you fear it, instead of running away, confront it. Definitely you will get success.

English is nothing like to be ashamed so don't feel sad
Best words i've heard on the internet today, " English sikhna aur English literature alag cheez hai." Exactly! So many people get confused between the two. I have seen so many students speaking horrible broken English with terrible accent and pronunciation, yet they are students of English literature, which is quite an irony in itself. Please do not, i repeat DO NOT take up English literature if you do not have a good hold over the language. You'll be at complete loss in near future. Also, DO NOT take up English literature for the sake of "show off". That's a major problem with a great number of students in India.

I did Bsc in my Ug..
This year i wanted a change and nice opportunity in future.
I wanted to go for teaching and job must for me less stressful.
Teaching languages is fun rather than science subjects.
Plus There are so much of opportunity, you can become english tutor , If possible teach in abroad too..Since in many europe countries english is 2 language.
I feel totally worth it., first i regretted for leaving science.I see major diffrence.
Now In india Arts subjects getting demand, since phd is compulsory, easy subjects to clear exam.
And i can tell English lit is not easy sub ,it needs lots of dedication and hardwork n choose best college to pursue.
And i have seen so many my seniors jobless after going behind science subjects due to heavy completion.
In India English..seen as more of skill...

I did master in English and TEFL(diploma)and M.Ed(Master in Education).Now i want to do M Phil and Phd in English.so which one i choose further, linguistics or liturature?????plz guide me which one scope is high and job oriented.????and besides this guide me for English Lecturer r Englsh professor job in UAE????
