  • This week we take you on board Legend, our Squib, as we take part in race 3 of the Medway yacht club summer series. For lots of different reasons there were only 3 of us this week however we had some great 'close' racing as you will see.
    We make these films just for fun, and we hope that you have enjoyed watching them however we have been asked on a couple of occasions now if we have a Patreon account. We don’t want to do that at this stage as we feel it would turn the channel into a business, and as we said at the beginning, this is all just for fun. However if you would like to support us and feel you could help contribute to the cost of making these films then you can do that via our PayPal account here. A big thank you to everyone that has already done this, its a great help.

    And a big thank you to everyone that has supported us so far, its very much appreciated.

      @@SailingwiththeFoxwellFamily Some cracking close port tacks there though as you were overhauling the leader before the last turning mark. Faster downwind too. Lovely stuff. Tight race!

    Excellent job, the multiple camera angles work really well and really gave us a feel for your efforts in the race.
    After trying to keep clear of you guys at the start, we had been intending to catch the race ending by drone from our mooring....... but that shifty wind put paid to that!

    What a joy having such sailing playground close to home.
    Nice episode with lots of camera angles and edits.
    Thanks for all the effort you are putting in creating this video, I really enjoyed it.

      Thanks Peter, glad you enjoyed it. Its hard to film a race from just one boat but it gives you the idea

    Sent you a fb message about the lip thing. Also, next time you are on the Crouch, pop over to the RCYC, for a pint and a chat about squibs :)

    Well done you two, even with your older sails using skill and experience you beat Black Mark the white Squib
    Great feeling isn’t it to overhaul the lead boat and finish first in your class

      Hi Colin. Its is but we have no excuses. Our sails are ok and the racing is great regardless. Nice to hear from you

      Hi Andy. Well the sails arnt really 30 years old and we only filmed when we could but yes, it was a good sail :-)

    I owned a Windmill briefly but gave it away (no water nearby) ( thought I would never move! Ha.). These are pretty quick little boats and I have the rights to build another but doubt it as the next nearest Windmill is perhaps five hundred miles away. I an near water now (two more moves) so….. perhaps a ready to go one for knocking about on the weekends. Great footage, no mud this week!

    • @SailingwiththeFoxwellFamily
      @SailingwiththeFoxwellFamily  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Eric. We have never heard of the Windmill, not sure they ever made there way over to our side of the pond, but then we are spoilt for choice when it comes to dinghies over here

    • @erichaskell
      @erichaskell Před 2 lety +1

      @@SailingwiththeFoxwellFamily The Windmill was designed in the 1950s as a inexpensive home built boat and I do not think anyone made a fiberglass mold which would be needed to popularize it. Heavily over canvassed, a lot of fun until the wind builds too high. I very much enjoy your videos. Thanks.

    Another interesting and enjoyable video! I have never come across a Squib here in South Australia, however I'm currently restoring an older Flying 15 (a not too dissimilar boat ?) that was rescued from decay in a local paddock and am looking forward to sailing it in our coming summer season later in the year, so very interesting to watch your Squib refurb and racing exploits. Cheers!

      Hi Richard. Lovely boats Flying 15's, never sailed one but apparently there used to be a load at our club 25 years ago so i don't know why they disappeared and the Squib survived?

      Hi Keith. Good question... it is a permanent part of the boat so you would think it might... although then I guess that would be outside class rules ;-)

    Can squibs control head layoff or opening easily?

    • @SailingwiththeFoxwellFamily
      @SailingwiththeFoxwellFamily  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Ian. To some extent. On a windy day like that its fine. The mast is soft so in that kind of breeze its harder to keep the leech tight without depowering but to be honest you probably need to any way. And in the very light there isnt enough roach to help it twist open.... but again when its that light you probably shouldn't sheet so hard. So i guess what i am saying is that its not perfect but is perfectly acceptable

    Where's the gennaker ?

    • @SailingwiththeFoxwellFamily
      @SailingwiththeFoxwellFamily  Před 2 lety +2

      Its a convention spinnaker and its just stuffed down below when its not used. might be part of our sailing handling problems as i think the posh boats have a custom bag to stow it in.
