Ours did freeze this last winter here in Utah. We have been very frustrated with our professional installer. We put a thermometer down at the bottom of the water and it was 29 for months. Working fine now in May. Trying to get them back to dig the hole deeper and I loved the thoughts on the “foam insulation”, if I had only known more when they put it in. I just trusted the installer now trying to get it fixed before winter. Love the waterer when it is working.

Very nice install and informative video. My one input would be to use a Ford-type insert-compression fitting instead of barbed fitting with hose clamps. The PEX lines are too stiff, and not designed for the clamps. One could use the PEX compression fittings, but they've been known to fail. The insert-compression fittings are designed for this exact application. Still, your prep work, plus the details of rock (liked the rounded rock, another awesome detail) was inspiring. Thanks for taking the time to make this. I imagine this waterers pay for themselves within a couple seasons based on the electric savings.

I would be worried about an animal getting a leg in there and it getting cut up pretty good. Just my opinion.

Doing great, only thing that happened few years back is the cattle if they get lot material int eh bowel like hay and junk stops the flow and cause snow and ice build up but quick hot water to bowel and then removed it and its fine. We check our three daily to keep them open since we have 38 inches snow by them lol, here is the winter update vid on them we made while back czcams.com/video/pWF5TgKiGrk/video.html

I watched a trench collapse and kill 2 men in a mater of seconds! Never ever go in that un shored hole. Tough to keep living on the farm that dad was buried alive
