  • This week I show you how to make a shopping cart cover out of fleece. It's quick and easy and a great beginner project! These covers are great to keep your babies and toddlers away from all the nasty little germs on shopping cart covers.
    The fleece provides a soft and comfortable sitting surface and my instructions also include two holes to pass the seat belt through.

    I have a friend who is 3 months pregnant. She's into hard rock gothic stuff. The typical fluffy pink baby stuff isn't really her style so I'm really excited to find all your great videos. Specialty hard core baby stuff is pretty expensive and it's not in either our budgets so I can't wait to go get some awesome fabric and make some of this great stuff!

    I took sewing classes in H.S and I really thought I can do this, so a few days ago I went out and bought all my supplies. Then I looked up the tutorials online and I was like "huh?..What?...But?...aw man!"...and then I found you!! Thank you so much for keeping things simple, I don't understand why some people add so many steps just for it to look exactly like this one, which is about 50% less steps. THANK YOU THANK YOU for being awesome!

    Thank you so much for this video! I have made two of these and given them as presents at baby showers. The future mother's didn't know what my gift was at first, finally someone else told them. It was a lot of fun to see their faces trying to figure it out. These mother's both use their shopping cart covers and love them! I am now making two more, one for a future mother and one for the grandma to have to use. You explain everything so well, even I as a 70 year old could understand how to make it. Your awesome!

    Thank You! Thank You! I made this for my grand-daughter,,, as my daughter complained that her (store bought) cover didn't fit over Target's bulky shopping carts ,,,, I found this pattern and YAY! it covered Target carts! She was so happy! I used pretty cotton fabric on both sides and batting inside. (so 3 layers in total-it is quite comfy) I added a pocket and sewed a bias strip of fabric down so baby's toys can be clipped and secured. (got that idea from another video) Love you videos ... Thanks again!!

  • @TheCraftyGemini
    @TheCraftyGemini  Před 12 lety

    Good project for a gift. I used fleece for one side and flannel on the other. It was easy to just turn the edges of the wholes to the underside because the fleece is so stretchy and zig zag so the fleece won't unravel. I cut the legs out with a plate using my rotary cutter. Then I took the circles and used them to make matching little toys. I did them with the ribbon tabs, but you could just simply stuff them.

  • @khadijahashanti-shabazz9645

    I wasn’t able to do this for my children because of time but my children are all grown now and I have grandchildren, so I’m able to now start this project. I used the rotary cutter to cut an X in the circle and then used the rotary cutter to cut the slit for the belt loop. Thanks for this project. Also after you put the elastic in, you can pull it through but then because you did not stitch the holes for the legs, you can continue to sell the wrong side to close up the hole you pull the whole thing through. I hope that kind of makes sense. Pin the elastic in place to finish the outer opening, to close up the elastic casing.

    • @jbd9507
      @jbd9507 Před 4 lety

      That is a great idea, to use the leg hole to pull it through and that way the elastic can be fully encased and you don't have to go back and sew up the hole as the demonstration showed. GREAT! Thanks for the tip!

    It won't matter too much if you mess it up because there isn't too much of a difference and the cover is designed to be loose fitting with space for adjustments. But I put it going front to back. Hope that helps.

    @MyCraftyCorner if you take your time, most things done a machine can be done by hand, its not rushing it. I sew with a machine and without, depending on how special i want it, Like a baby quilt, all hand done, mending a shirt, machine. I love hand sewing more then machine, I have issues with my machine somedays it does not want to work. But For most things that are sewn you can do by hand, like if i want straight edge on a baby quilt, i use a metal ruler and mark where i need to sew.

    @StarofParis Thanks! At the end of the video I show you another version I made with 100% cotton fabrics and I mention including a layer of batting in between so it can be fluffier and a lot softer to sit on for the baby. But it will definitely work. You don't need the fabric to stretch if you have the elastic edge. That's what needs to stretch over the cart. You should be fine.

  • @TheCraftyGemini
    @TheCraftyGemini  Před 11 lety

    doesn't matter as long as you get the same measurements. I usually will fold if I'm working on a smaller works surface so it fits and makes it easier to cut.
