- Taking a look at the B7A2 Homare 23, from the Summer 2023 battle pass in War Thunder. This is an upgraded version of the plane from the tech tree, and its actually a significant upgrade.

Shout out Tim, Me and all my Homies love Tim
That carrier landing seems like it would be a literal nightmare in sim, basically coming in blind
Can confirm, takes a lot of practice. I once had to go around four times!
That's why landing signal officers were a thing.
Always love hearing about the history of these vehicles, thanks for putting in all the extra effort Tim!
I just wish the Japanese deck attack AP bombs worked properly
Oh shit yeah! I THOUGHT u was just bad with them...
I've been using the Ryusei for awhile now in Naval. Most satisfying thing I ever did was basically do a bellyflop into the water after coming over a steep island and torpedoing a DD sitting on the other side lol. Total Arcade moment cuz the thing probably would've drowned with how steep it was with me dropping it as I slammed belly into the water so pilot could watch things happen to ship 30 meters away lol
Thats epic!
I'm of the opinion that the P1Y Ginga is actually the better torpedo bomber despite its larger size and lower maneuverability due to its higher straight-line speed. The Type 91 Mod 3 torpedo is easily capable of being dropped in a fairly fast dive (max drop speed is something like 550 km/h), and the faster you go the faster you get out of AA coverage. This being said, the B7A Ryuusei is still a great choice (basically all of the the Japanese torpedo aircraft are fully functional in-role due to how excellent the Type 91 torpedoes are.) and it does have the limited ability to turn into a fighter after you drop your load (something the Ginga cannot, as it doesn't have fixed armament).
The B7A and D4Y are so beautiful
Well, this plane is going to help me grind Japan air, glad it seems to be a good plane
I am not buying this battle pass but I will defenetly get the B7A2(since it's the free reward) and the IAR from the warbond shop.
the iar is a lot of fun in ground rb
I've got a review up of the IAR as well, love that plane.
I know I left a critical comment on a much earlier video but it's great to see how your review format has matured and become really strong - from a general historical overview straight in to the specific model in WT is a good example, you're using a consistent tagline to enter this section ("What we get in War Thunder is X") and it's a part of the great style you've developed.
The format has matured over time, to be sure. I think thats probably true of anyone who sticks with youtube vids for a while - it takes some time to find your groove, so to speak.
Real shatter fix did indeed made the Tracer Belt on the Type 99 20mm be a Anti-Fighter belt.
I debated mentioning the realshatter change, but figured if I did the snail would immediately nerf it again, so I kept my mouth shut. ;-)
Though it does feel like it became too good. Ive been seeing alot of A6M5s shooting down bombers with ease lately. So they may have to nerf it abit...
I adore this thing, my favorite tactic is to climb from the bomber down, drop the 800 on a base, then patrol for climbers
love your vids man keep up the great content
Nice vid, one of my most favored plane.
It's always a good day when Tim uploads, love the content!
Ngl
Tim reviews is my favorite ❤
All packed in one.... history, tactics, all kind of stuff
Never get me bored
Flawless review.
It is one of the most versatile planes the Japanese have especially in terms of bombers/attack aircraft. Great at being a dive bomber, level bomber, torpedo bomber, all while with decent flight performance and surprising agility that when combined with its cannons, makes it a decent fighter/interceptor. And especially good at taking advantage of enemy bombers due to its cannons, air spawn, and good climb rate. All the while it’s exceptional at beating overconfident opponents or likewise just someone who unwisely turns their back and undermines it as a potential air to air fighter.
one of my fav planes, especially for torpedo bombing in naval; and I only have the tech tree variant.
it's small enough it can dodge a lot of incoming AA fire from ships
not a plane you want to get caught up in a dogfight with IMO
The reason for the Type 99's cyclical rate is that it was reduced to save weight. The Type 99's strength is that it could be used on incredibly light airframes due to its low weight, but the sacrifices came in that those planes could only carry a few 20 mm rounds and had a somewhat low rate of fire
A few notes about this version of the B7A. The WEP is not time limited like on the tech tree version so feel free to WEP away. The climb rate tops out around 18m/s. Compared to single engined fighters it is poor. The only ones that you will be out climbing are F4U-1s and Swedish J21s. That said that is with around an hour of fuel. If it could take 30 mins then the climb rate would likely be near 20m/s which is actually quite competitive against most fighters. It is a shame that they didn't add this as a tech tree plane to help fill out the tech tree a bit more. There would have been no harm in bumping the BR of this version up one step.
Edit: Best climb with 33 mins of fuel was 19.5m/s. This thing with 30mins of fuel or less is a fighter performance wise. This B7A is going to be a lot more dangerous to opposing fighters than the TT version.
Edit 2 and final edit: With 17 mins of fuel this B7A can do 20m/s climb rate. That is still below average for the BR in regards to fighters but that is where the below average fighters start. At this fuel level this B7A is doing around 12 seconds for a full 360 when most fighters are doing 13+ at the same fuel level. Average climb rate for fighters around this BR is close to 23m/s. The best at this BR is the J2M2 at 32m/s. The 2nd best is the Ki-44-II at 27.5m/s. Everything else right around this BR is 25m/s or below. If this thing could carry 30mins or less fuel it would be a dominant fighter in general in air RB given it's bomber spawn. This version of the B7A is potentially very dangerous and will become more and more dangerous a fighter the more fuel it uses up.
Another vid let's go!
I'm looking forward to getting this one! Should be a lot of fun in naval.
-IAR 316B?-
My review of the IAR 316B is already produced. Will be published in the coming weeks.
@@TimsVariety Woohoo! I'm so excited!
Damn, I've already unlocked every single plane in the Japanes tree, and have the premium Zero. I was about to skip this battlepass grind alltogether. But this plane looks fun.
The roll rate was something of a disappointment after the agile D4Y series. But the armament is much needed upgrade.
Such a good "dive bomber"
Hey Tim, amazingly intricate guide as always lol, but a suggestion I would make is whenever you mention speed in kilometers, you could probably put the miles per hour conversion somewhere or mention it for us stinky Americans lol
Which radar mode is it where it is kind of the a square but not all the way and it’s for long range
I think my battle pass is glitched or something. I can't see the battle pass in the lobby where the square is to the right. The square is there, but it is just empty
6:00 is that the port moresby map? i thought it was disabled?
Can we have a Video on the KI83 please? I think that it isn't fair people think the Hornet is the best twin engine at its BR
I played it, horrible aircraft. Very slow to respond. Awesome video, love the historical context.
Same plane, same BR, but better. Man... this is a really underwhelming battle pass reward. It's sad that the thing I'm looking forward to most is its unpainted skin.
I'm sure it will help people grind Japan, but the A6M5 Ko was already much better for that, and cheaper too.
What am I doing wrong - I have never won a fight against one of these stupid things, they seems stupidly opie to me.
I'm sorry to say this... But why the hell do you people always think "hmm, I'll do a little bit of bombing and then I'll go for fighters" like it's an open-world game? I personally find that so irritating - you're wasting so much potential altitude and early game impact for literally nothing.
Literally just take the torpedo, drop it when you spawn in, and then climb to take out enemy fighters. Emotional thinker stuff right here. I'll never understand it.
I do like the tech tree version. So I hope I'll like this.
You will, the engine upgrade is a solid improvement.
