I'm 50 and still think about this era. I was in 10th grade when this movie was on the big screen. Fat laces, kangols, Adidas, Nike, Puma & Fila track suits, Cazals. I was into POP LOCKING AND djIN..Murals as well. 80'S REPRESENTIN' IN EFFECT!
Gucci Gambino yeah Bro. I remember walking through different neighborhoods carrying cardboard, looking to battle cats. Im from STL& i wanted to move to NewYork so i could be a career B Boy. I woke up two years later. Those were the days. Its good to be alive. Still. Thank GOD. or whatever U believe.
Gucci Gambino I am trying t give my bro a 50th this year with this theme. I am 42 and am blessed to have lived and witness this era. Everything on ya list was my bro. I got paid 5 bucks to iron his laces and Crease his LEVIS WITH NIAGRA STARCH🙏🏽
THE MOVIE, BEAT STREET WILL LIVE ON FOREVER AND EVER!!!!! TO ESCAPE FROM REALITY, I WATCH THIS MOVIE, AND GO BACK IN TIME, TO AN ERA, THAT WASN'T ABOUT HOW IT IS TODAY, IF US OLD SCHOOL KIDS BATTLE, IT WAS BREAK DANCING, AND NOT ABOUT KILLING EACH OTHER. REST IN POWER TO MY KURIAKI UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN MY LOVE!!!! NEVER KNEW, UNTIL A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO THAT HE PASSED AWAY, AND ALSO BUCK 4, REST IN POWER ALSO MY LOVE! . BEAT STREET FOREVER 💗 I'M 52 YEARS AGO, I'M A OLD SCHOOLER GURL!!!!!!
New Orleans all time fav movie beatstreet. I was born in 73 this movie made me fall in love with hip hop still sad of the condition it's in hurts. Back when it was pure money mess it up
Thank you
I'm 44 and still love this movie to this day....difference to being in my teens and now is I know most of the lines and always quoting them in Beat Street posts on Facebook. Lol
This is a million miles away from what they (the music industry corporates) market as 'Hip Hop' these days. Always look deep to the underground. Rap takes so many different forms today but those of us who are 40+ know the REAL HIP HOP........in its true bitd form you gotta include the other elements......Graff,Bboys/girls and Djs as well as the Mc's....or Rappers.
Gracias Beat Street !!!
EVERYTHING in this movie is spot ON about Hip Hop Culture, EVERYTHING! The shit they filmed in this movie was really happening in our neighborhoods on the East Coast back then: the clothes, the battles (dance, DJ-ing beat boxing, burners, everything) the Shearling sheepskin coats with the huge Russian hats. The only thing most of us didn’t agree with was the soundtrack, it sounded watered down back then😅. I probably have half of the soundtrack on my playlist today because it’s so nostalgic♥️. Thank you to everyone that helped make this film, especially Harry Belafonte and Stan Lathan🤎. Some years ago though I read an interview with Greg Davis in Parade Magazine (he’s Ossie Davis + Ruby Dee’s son) and the interview made no mention of this film nor did he seem to care to mention it either. He’s a jazz artist by profession
Man I was into this breakdancing from way back in 1984 and never looked back since and was doing all this moves Electric Boogie, Flash dancing and down rocking or breakin. Shout out to the NYC Breakers i seen their movie Beatstreet way back in the 80s from here in South Africa you'll made my life better. it's Max the Mixer from Soweto keep rocking.
One of my fav movies. I was a 1980s breaker. The breakdancing and music were awesome; but the messaging re life was even better. I stilll watch this movie.
I was 9and a half years old when this came out and I use to Break Dance,Pop Lock,Boogaloo, and get in trouble for tagging by railroad track buildings by the railway conductors and railway twit card police lol we’d hit trains, inside and out day or night lol in the SF and Oakland California, Union Pacific Santa Fe, Bart ,Buses, over passes, tops of buildings, Blank Billboards, etc, We’d even go to Fisherman’s wharf and dance for a nice lil chunk of change when we’re not dubbing music lol, Damn I teared up reminiscing about wanting to be just like lil Lee Wit Da fly Puma Fits and Bomber Coats, And fly Cazal’s wit da Kangol B Boy hats lol This and Krush Grove was my movies, and we snuck in the movies and go in through the back sides Exit Door when the big homie paid for a matinee ticket lol
Try and msg Parliament Cinema Club to remaster some scenes from Beat Street in 4K like what they do with some other movies. The visuals will look like you are actually there in 4K depending on the what cam tech they use to film the movie.

Worldwide!.. .bigger than Rock!!!
