      There's perhaps confusion about what you mean by 'original score'. There are no right-hand octaves in Chopin's original composition. In his arrangement Sarasate imposed them upon the first half of Bar 11, changing to 6ths in the second half of the bar and continuing them into Bar 12. Colin Jacobsen eliminated the octaves but kept the 6ths, a wise choice I would say.

      I say that too and I started when I was twelve. I could’ve been playing saint-saens’ introduction and rondo capriccioso at that age if only I started at four, but I didn’t so it doesn’t matter because I can’t change the past. I’m now 15 and on track to play it at age 18, which is still pretty young. Remember, it’s not about the age you accomplished, but the journey and the fact you accomplished it. You’ll get there no matter what; no matter what age, or how many years it took you, or anything else. And you’ll be so proud when you do! All that matters is the fact that you accomplished your goals and didn’t give up! :) it doesn’t matter when you started, just that you started at all.

I've always imagined this song to be a song of someone looking back at a long happy life in their final moments. Tonight, I played it for my 20 year old cat who I've had since 2 years old, during our last snuggle, and it means a lot to me to have had that moment with him to this video and song. Thank you, sincerely, from the bottom of my heart. Scruffy lived a wonderful life, we gave him everything he wanted and more, and we all love him so much. I'll always have my memories of him, and this song will always remind me of our last snuggles together and the happy life he lived, and the way he made my life happy. Thank you.

    What really makes the piece is the tempo rubato! It adds so much emotion to the song.

  • @IceOfPhoenix88
    @IceOfPhoenix88 Před 3 lety +16

    The fact that there was a moment of silence so that the piece could settle in, and 'float in the air' as my teacher would say, between the end of the piece and the applause shows how good this is. If your entire audience is not fully captured and you have not transported them, they will immediately be aware that the piece ended and non-musicians (probably being most of the crowd) will clap immediately destroying the atmosphere. When everyone waits to clap you know that they gave the performers their full undivided attention. It takes skill to do that, because not the whole crowd is a fan of Chopin for example (if he was at a concert then obviously yes, but if he was at a competition etc where lots of people come and they aren't all classical musicians, then no they probably all don't even know Chopin's name). It's a great feeling to be fully connected with your audience.

    I keep coming back to listen to this performance by Colin Jacobsen.
    As a violinist I understand the technical difficulty of this piece, and admire the many facets of Colin's polished performance. Intonation is spot on, his articulation is distinct, the weight and speed of the bow is used skillfully to produce beautiful and varied tonal colours. The higher position of his fingers on the lower strings and subtle use of glissando contribute to a beautiful resonant tonal quality that expresses the emotion of the music. His disciplined playing contributes to a beautiful rounded performance.
    Though this was recorded a few years ago it has stood the test of time and will continue to be arguably the best recorded performance of this piece. Congratulations Colin!
    As a violinist I would have appreciated the camera focusing on the violinist fingers and bowing rather than the face of the performer. That would have been most helpful to those of us who play, or are learning to play, this piece.

      +Melisa What, he looks nothing like the composer, Chopin has straight hear in his head, but this guy is all curly.

    I can play this on the piano (been playing the piano for 4.5 years) and I am pretty proud of my self :) I have been playing the violin for a while now and I really hope to be able to play this one day! :) (im not bragging sorry i probably sound like a 10 year old)

      Hugh G. Rection I don't know if I read your comment wrong, but I interpreted it as you asking Monamie if they would recommend you learning the song. I was just saying that, even if you don't mind the difficulty, I think it may depend on your skill level on the violin (or whatever instrument you're learning). If you're spectacular at the instrument, of course! By all means learn it. But I don't know you're skill level or anything, so I dunno.
      Harsh language =P

    Es la música que escuché en mis sueños la primera vez .En ese sueño lo habia compuesto para mi. Porque estaba mal y pálida y trajo un violinista perfecto y yo recostada en muchas almohadas y me lleno el corazón . Curioso sueño hasta que encontré este tema y estoy sorprendidísima.
