Guy not great at all since the reason he hit irons off the tees is he assumed he would hit bad shots if he played the way match play should be played & that is to go for it & take chances rather than playing like a constant talking neurotic. @@jc10122
Depressed Rick is hard to watch 😔 I love the content on this channel and I'm a long time fan, but recently it's feeling like there needs to be an injection of positivity. In this video, Guy , even while down the whole match, is trying his hardest to keep the vibes up, but there just seemed to be a cloud of gloom over Rick here. I would be so happy just playing that course, and you guys get to visit amazing courses all over the world. In a golf sense, I live vicariously through you, so it's really hard to follow along when the vibes are low. Nevertheless much love to you both ❤

100% agree with this. He is the luckiest bloke alive getting to do this for a living but he is always so down and negative.
Eh, everything is relative. I’m sure Rick knows how lucky he is, seems like a good guy. Agree the negatively gets annoying but I think Rick is just positioning his skills against where he thinks he should be or once was. That cause pain. Anytime you compare yourself to a past you or others, it will cause anguish. It’s all relative. It’s why the big fish in a small pond tends to be happy. His relative projection of him or herself against his or her peer group is above average. Rick either used to be much better or thinks he should be.
Even though rick is frustrated with his game, he doesn’t look to enjoy playing anymore. I see a difference between new and old videos. Definitely seems the channel is more work than pleasure.
Dude totally agree. It feels like he’s gotten a bit too big for his britches. Guy has always helped the entertainment factor a ton on these and Rick seemingly feels too good for this.

Rick's favorite saying now days before a shot is "C'mon Rick, hit a good one" which is what a sport's psychologist would tell you to say as a cover for your actual underlying thinking from experience that you will probably mess the whole thing up pretty much every time with the same old bad shots that keep repeating like 3 putting from 12 ft., chunking wedge shots that end in doubles, etc.
So funny watching Rick walk to his next shot on the 15th, had to get away from Guy’s never ending chat about his shots. Was he trying to plod his way round? Cos he never mentioned it.. Rick Shiels, the sulkiest man playing a beautiful golf course and getting paid for it you’ve ever seen

My favourite part of his videos are watching and hoping for a meltdown. I find it hilarious. Someone needs to tell Rick how lucky he is to have the life he’s got. Travelling the world, meeting people and playing the best courses, and undoubtedly making a load of money doing it. And all he does is sulk and moan. Enjoy Guy’s camera presence about more, Guy should start his own channel!

I EXPECT the meltdown & then the sulky negative talk about it virtually every round. His latest at Bay Hill was a perfect example where he got to a decent enough start at one over after a few holes & I just waited for the disaster which soon came. No fun playing the best courses in the world when you know you are going to hit the same bad shots that ruin round after round. @@charleswhite1481

Gotta be honest, I think this a shared sentiment amongst other viewers, looking at the other comments but this was a tough watch. The atmosphere in this video was really tense, and didn't feel like two friends enjoying a round of golf together. An unusual video that ultimately didn't offer a great amount of entertainment. Hope you're both ok Guy & Rick, clearly weren't yourselves in this vid.
I love the quote, "I've not done anything wrong" after hooking into the bushes from the middle of the fairway. Sounds like the guys on our swindle ;-)
1:02:18 “ok knock it towards that bunker on the right and let the wind drift it back.” Pull hooks it 40 yards left in the water then says: “that wasn’t far off.”
Lesson for Rick Shiels. When you play golf, you’ll play well, average, or poorly. When you play poorly, no use in getting overwrought about it. Guy gets down in position, but he doesn’t stay down on HIMSELF. I am not an overly cheerful person on the course, but I learned the value of not beating myself up over a bad bounce, shot, hole, or outcome. Isn’t it the British (and Texans) that love to say “Carry on”? Carry on!

I cannot watch this anymore, fan since day one but in the space of two videos we have gone from a Ryder cup legend to Charnock flapping his gums like flag in a storm. Huge L. Turned off after 4 holes and I needed to smash 6 red bulls to get that far.
I'm in physical pain when Rick talks himself into putting every single shot that's off the green 😅 How is putter even a consideration for that chip on 17?!

Guy claims to be a 4 handicapper, I know 4 handicappers who would have beat him 7 & 6 easily, I play of 6 and could easily beat Guy even when playing average, his home course must be piss easy is all I’ll say
@@garygary6729 I've mentioned this before. I have only seen him play decent once and I don't know any other 4 handicap golfers who hit tops/lose balls and on such a regular basis

I don't think I've ever seen Rick both disinterested and frustrated in any round of golf like this before. I really hope he is emotionally and physically okay because something certainly seems off...
His golf came has went to the dogs, and everyone can see it. Still he is living the dream and making a good living out of it. If he is genuinely struggling mentally then I apologise.

That putt on 16 is exactly why I think a lot of us would've liked to have seen fewer gimmes. It's also nice to see better players missing shots like that to make them more relatable for us duffers

You are not alone. Walking along and being a part of the playing group is just a superior experience to the tired old PGA Tour coverage. Things are going to have to change on those broadcasts.
Average? Rick hit 77 round Lake Nona from the tips, 7200 yards, slope of 138.
Put 3 rounds like that into a WHS calculator and it comes back as scratch, zero, that was a good round for Rick, no gimmes, a bit of good fortune, a bit of bad.
On another day that could have been a 75, or an 80
Put 77, 75 and 80 in as values (you need three rounds to calculate WHS) and it comes back at +1.7.

Disappointing match if I’m honest, real shame
I like Guy, but watching the other bang average golfer constantly moan is painful. I am done with these videos and if you are reading Rick, I suggest you gain some perspective from some of the other comments. The content was fun to watch in the early days.
Rick mate. I think youve become obsessed with the better golfers around you at the YT level you've reached. There was no joy from you in this at all because you were terrified of losing face to tour pros because you cant spank Guy. Not what we tune in for, this video should have been a love in and would have been better for it.

They’ve lost the passion for the game. That’s clear as day. It’s about the business and the money, retention and the views. Can’t wait for the next podcast to discuss the golf they played 3 months ago and to hype the next video of golf they played 3 months ago. I usually love the channel but it’s fading the wrong direction.
CZcams still blows my mind at times, thousands of people tune in each week to watch lads who would struggle to win the monthly medal at a local club play rounds of golf that half the viewers could better quite easily. There are some seriously good golfers who will not get anywhere this level of success but some how a couple of mid to low single figure players can get lads watching, funny old world, thats not an attack on the lads either ❤
It is an attack on the lads. But you're right.
To be fair, Rick’s paid his dues. Despite his current form, he’s been doing instruction, tips and review vids for years before these type of vids. Guy is just a bloke Rick employs that for some reason Rick lets in camera despite being incredibly annoying and full of himself. I’ve no interest in watching these two play a match.

This is like thirty minute video if Guy kept from blabbering every thought that went thru his head. Rick is at least informative.

Really interesting layout. Thanks for sharing. I love the way that the strategy is controlled by those huge bunkers and large sweeping green complexes. I bet it wouldnt be a cheap course to maintain.

Watching Guy hitting irons every par 4 and then having 200+ in was ridiculous. Then every approach shot was way short. Hit any wood or hybrid to give yourself some sort of chance. Only holes Guy won were the ones Rick mangled…which was a lot. That was a brutal watch.
