Nah bro my physics teacher was great. If some douchebags were being douches he wouldn’t be an asshole or anything but he’d get the conversation directed toward action and reaction an how nothing will happen if you set idle and ignore real life (you get where that’s going probably) well they ended up turning out really cool. And I give that credit to him most likely because it was like they completely reformed themselves within a few months not like being something they weren’t but just more mature and responsible. And most teachers can’t do that. They can only teach the subject they are paid to teach. He didn’t even have to set down and talk with them or be stern. He never called anyone out but I noticed the change he made in a lot of people lives by the things he said in his teachings.

I don't get why people idolise him. He's not that smart. He's actually kind of dumb. Take the "Sun rises in the east..." point. In his explanation he was talking about Due East and Due West (exactly East and West) but the sun always does rise in the East (Eastern side of the sky) and sets in the West (Western side of the sky). So because the point behind him doesn't mention "due", the point is correct.
Now he may know this and is just simplifying the topic, but now people are going to go around thinking the Sun only rises and sets in the East and West twice per year which is incorrect.

@@kenwittlief255 Not really. Many of these are exactly what the op said, semantics. Example, the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. The sun never rises in the west, or from the south, it comes from GENERALLY the east from our perspective. No one says this thinking 'exactly due east with no variation at all'. Ok, so the longest day is the first day of summer, so technically the days get shorter in the summer. However, during the cold time of year the days are generally shorter than during the warm time of year. Neil knows what people mean by this statement, but he's invoking semantics here. What goes up must come down? Basic Newtonian theory here, and of course there are exceptions and caveats, but in general, from the human perspective on earth, if you throw something in the air, it comes back to earth. I love Neil, true genius. This talk is really just petty semantics.

In this comment I will gave an example of Neil's bad history, though.
A part of Tyson's routine from 2006 to 2014 was his account of President Bush's 9-11 speech. The talk was titled Bush and Star Names.
Tyson has Bush bragging that his God was the God that named the stars so as to distinguish we from they. We being American Christians and they being Arab Muslims.
However Bush's actual 9-11 speech was a call for tolerance and inclusion. It was delivered from a mosque.
Turns out Tyson confused Bush's 9-11 speech with his eulogy for the Space Shuttle Columbia astronauts. However in neither speech did Bush try to set Christians above Muslims. That falsehood came from Tyson's imagination and confirmation bias.
Jonathan Adler did a number of pieces for The Washington Post on Tyson's Bush and Star Names debacle.

Some dick (I think I was 4 or 5 at the time playing tee-ball) decided to be an ass and mess around with something I was doing with sand (now, I don't like sand, jk, but still, *meme reference xD* ). At the start I was alone, then he came and I was like "dude, get away" and kinda shooed sand his way, and guess what? He decided "hey, Imma nearly f-ing blind this dude" and decided to whip sand into my eyes and that's the first time I ever used a curse word, the f *dash* *dash* *dash* word (now I don't even care if I do or not, but that was the first time, and at that time and a few years after until I was a few years into double digit age, I never said anything like that and if I even heard it or said it by myself, I couldn't get it off my mind due to me being self conscious of it). And I literally wanted to attack the kid at the time but I was being led off back to the car just to go home (the game ended about 10 minutes beforehand), and the kid didn't even feel bad, but his parents forced him to apologize and eventually he mustered up enough courage and willpower to apologize, but to this day, I feel it was still far from genuine and I still hate him and hold a grudge against him, and forgiveness is next to an impossibility. To this day, I wish I never lost contact, because now that I am more conscious of me being alive, and the physical strength I have gathered, I would confront him and hold him by the chest and interrogate him and basically beat (slap) the living crap out of him. Btw, I am 17 now. At least I'm not alone when it comes to childhood assholes with sand, lol.

Suburban education in the US is still ranked among the top in the world, and the students in that demographic still perform on that level. The change is that the focus on education is now taking a more detailed analysis of the country's weaker performers: students and education systems in rural and inner city areas. As a result, the overall ranking of the US has shifted negatively.
As for the mindless saluting of the flag as a means of turning citizens into mindless robots saluting a flag - the pledge of allegiance was introduced in the late 1890s - well before the development of the DoE. In fact, it was never federally mandated that it be incorporated. It is up to states to choose whether to dedicate time for the pledge, and not all of them opt for that. Further, it was the Federal Govt that said, back in 1943, that forcing students to recite the pledge was unconstitutional.

I was in a car accident, the truck spun out on black ice, hit a snowbank, and flipped over it and down a hill, rolling like 4 times. I was wearing a seatbelt. The other person wasn't. My head got knocked around pretty bad, whiplash, nerve damage, muscle micro tears, neck stuff.
The other person was literally airborne, flipping around, their body hitting the seat and door repeatedly in positions the body is not meant to twist in, they smashed their window out with their head, and their body got smashed against the steering wheel a few times (I think their height had the seat back so far, they weren't held in place by it). They've had episodes where they can't walk, whatever they did to their spine really effed them up.
I'm not in perfect condition, my nerves never grew back healthy, so I'm in a permanent state of pain, but I'm extremely grateful I wear my seatbelt. Just watching them smash around (time seemed to slow down, it kind of felt like floating at times, and the flipping made everything inside the truck sort of hover in the air because up and down were changing so quickly, they never had time to hit the bottom) was terrifying. I thought they were unconscious after they smashed their head, shortly before all the windows shattered and the roof crumpled. We'd probably both be dead if it hadn't been for the truck.
Though I'm pretty sure we wouldn't have filled down the hill if it had been lower to the ground. But yeah. Going headfirst out the windscreen is definitely not all you need to be concerned about lol. I was angry they hadn't been driving more carefully, I think my first words after stopping, and trying to get the sand and snow out of my mouth and eyes, were, "Oh my God, you almost killed us!" But I didn't hold a grudge. They did get the truck straightened out, but our momentum kept us sliding sideways until we broadsided the snow bank, so they did try. Plus they're worse off than me, so I don't think it would be fair.

you're out of your mind. At 5mph if you hit a brick wall in your car, you would likely sustain less injury without a seat belt. The car doesn't stop instantly, it crumples. And the distance between you and the steering wheel gives you more stopping distance which is taken away by a seat belt.
The comparison between running into a wall is intentionally misleading here, because I refuse to believe that tyson doesn't understand this. Your face hitting the wall gives you an extremely high force because your stopping distance is like the thickness of your skin to your bones. Very very short. It's literally 1000 times bigger than this in a car. This isn't just semantics. this is a HUGE difference.
You can try it. Put your seat belt on, accellerate to 5mph and slam your brakes with and without your seatbelt on. Without the seatbelt you can cradle your body with your arms, but with the seatbelt your body will dig into the seatbelt.

"Total Solar Eclipses are rare."-- Ok, Yes we understand that they are not technically rare. But that is not exactly how I take the delivery of it from the news. I don't take it that a total eclipse is rare, but that the current one that the news is talking about is rare in some way. For instance on any one total eclipse, it goes across a specific swath of land that doesn't get hit but like once every 375 years as Jean Meeus of Belgium calculated a long time ago. Then there are other eclipses that _are_ rare. Like on April 29 2014, it wasn't a total eclipse, but the news did say it was rare because it was a " 'non-central eclipse,' with the axis of the moon's shadow - known as the antumbra during an annular eclipse - passing mere kilometers above the continent of Antarctica. - See more at: www.space.com/25644-total-solar-eclipses-frequency-explained.html#sthash.yiW5BoFc.dpuf " So while that statement as it exists on the video is false. That statement seems to have been taken out of the context it is used in, and shortened and made more ambiguous. For instance, Is it wrong to say that "Total solar eclipses are rare in my area." (as they only happen about once every four-five generations)? Maybe that is a better wording, or for news reporters: "This total solar eclipse is rare, because...." ... then again, I don't actually recall any news reporter just plainly saying that, in general, "Total solar eclipses are rare." They usually draw a map and a graphic and show how they are rare for that swath of land.
