I love LAMP. If you use word finder mode and then press guide me it will help him find eat button in the two step mode. I'm so happy he got this it will change his life xx

Tell them to use hand under hand prompting so the therapist puts their hand under his hand its less invasive and might help. Also it took my son 6 months to warm up to LAMP so don't give up he will get there x

We’re starting with LAMP on a trial device with my son now, too. He’ll be 9 next week. It is hard to remember where everything is! But memory is my son’s superpower & he seems to be picking things up little by little. (Mostly silly words & phrases that crack him up! 😋) Good luck with it! I like your approach of working it in where you can so it’s not overwhelming for either of you, and I’d love to hear updates along the way.

That’s so cute! Christian does random taps and I make it into conversation. This morning he said “ you for finished” I said yes I’m finished cleaning thank you for noticing 🤣

Christian is very smart. He seems burnt out with the deficit medical model of instruction. My son can’t handle ABA, he becomes demand avoidant. I found a speech therapist that is relationship based and had to push back on my son’s ABA school to do things the Speech Therapist way but we have seen so much progress. She noticed he is a Gestalt Language Processor not the typical Analytical Processor (he learns in chunks of language instead of one word at a time). We place 0 demands on my son to use his device, 0 prompting, instead noting all communication is valid. We modeled for him and made the device fun. We tailored to what he likes, wants, needs. It’s slow process but working. The best part is that it releases stress for you, him, and the family. If the goal is to effectively communicate than a multimodal approach (device, sign language, gestures, etc) is ok. This different approach may work for Christian. I’m not a Speech Therapist so I Highly recommend the book Uniquely Human by Dr. Barry Prizant a Speech Therapist. I listened to it on audible while driving because who has time to read 😂. You are an AMAZING mom!

Hi my son is 5 and we started on the speech device in March. What our device consultant and SLP told us to do is to involve a lot of modeling. Everyone in the family can join in with the device and use it with Christian and incorporate it with daily tasks. Like take it into the bathroom while brushing teeth and use the device during your communication. You don’t necessarily have to press every word in your sentence. You can say we need a (select tooth brush) and then see to brush our teeth. A lot of modeling within the family can possibly help with easing in just using it for demands and I wants. Also if adding the I want is very hard for him right now the best thing to do is just one word selection until he masters that and then add the I want little by little.

Zac got his device last year and uses LAMP. He can now independently request food items, water and say "all done." He also says "cleats" for shoes when he wants to go outside, lol. Zac harms himself and others at therapy and it's really hard. This life has definitely forced me to develop a thicker skin. You're doing a great job modeling! 👏👍Thanks for sharing!

I suggest using the vocab builder to reduce the number of symbols when teaching the system so that Christian can just focus on the symbols you want to teach. Having the entire range of symbols may be too much for him to process visually, especially since he's new to it. You can ask his SLP to show you how to do it. For example, if you're teaching him to choose places that he'd like to go to, the vocab builder can reveal just "I want", "go", and the places that you want him to choose such as "park", "movie", "supermarket", etc.

A primera vista me parecería que es más difícil tener que seleccionar varias opciones para comunicar una sola cosa; pero seguro que con mucha práctica lo dominarán🤝 espero que vaya bien el nuevo sistema😊 ¡Saludos!

Hi! This is amazing! How do we get started with something like this? My son is still not speaking. He is receiving speech services. But no words. I'm nervous because he is starting preschool in September and he will be in a class of 12 mixed IEP & non IEP. I want him to have a way to communicate.

Hi! First time we an aac device it was through a non profit in Las Vegas. This time we went through our sons Insurance. His speech therapist took all the data and submitted everything needed to insurance. You can also add the program to an iPad and pay out of pocket. I fist used used pecs phase III. Then we used proloquo2go and now Lamp program.

Hi! My son’s SLP at school set up his LAMP app for him. She didn’t use the full vocabulary for him. She created a transition vocabulary for him that only had words/buttons that were relevant for him. It took him more than two years to start using it independently. We have been adding more words/buttons since then. He keeps getting better at it but I am
Not sure he will ever use the full version of LAMP

    • @ROCKNSTIMS
      @ROCKNSTIMS  Před 11 měsíci

My slp did the same but recently opened it back up fully to let him explore it. I’m pretty sure we will be going back to the essential words one soon. 💙

@@ROCKNSTIMS You can always go back and forth between the preselected symbols and the full version. I'd say go with a gradual reveal of the entire symbol set because each time you reveal a set of symbols, it would be one that he is already somewhat familiar with and makes sense to him.

If my friend knows I am not happy he will probably be like do you want tickles ! If I push tickles on my iPad he will probably be like there you go ! Anna if my friend straps my communication device before we go to his brothers basketball game he will probably be like there you go! If I push eat he will probably be like oh you want food ! What do you want to eat if I push sandwich he will probably be like okay ! Nice asking Anna! If I am happy he will probably be oh your pretty happy!

@@ROCKNSTIMS are you familiar with how to "mask" some of the buttons?
Limit the # of words so you can teach a little at a time.
      Slowly unmask more and more
It will help cut Down on the number of times you use word finder and you will memorize along with him

@sarahshanahan2222 yes, right now I leave it how his speech therapists recommends, every few weeks we either take some off or add or do both.
