After buying a Helix, I recommend, DEFINITELY, get some good IRs. I had the HD500x about 2 weeks before upgrading and felt like the cabs on the HD500x were a lot more pleasing. I can't describe it. My recorded tones were better than they were with my tube amp. On the Helix, I feel the included cabs really don't capture the feel of each amp's unique qualities. I plugged some of IRs in and VOILA, everything came to life. The SLO sounds like an SLO, the Diezel, the Uberschall, etc. Couldn't be happier and now the upgrade really feels stratospheric compared to the HD500x.

If the intention is to play live through FRFR, or any other type of speakers. The answer is absolutely yes. You need IRs and in my particular experience, Celestion is the best option.

I see a Digitech Drop pedal in the background. It’s the only pedal I cannot part with in front of my Helix floor still (Floyd rose trem) 👍

I've owned a Line 6 Helix LT for a few years now and I haven't been able to get a stock cab to sound as good as a few IR's that I've picked up. They always seem to be a little on the thin/harsh side. I've watched many videos on patch builds where stock cabs were used, but what I get compared to what they get is always off. I feel there is definitely some post processing on videos that are not mentioned (along with YT compression).

It's all about the settings in the IR blocks. You have to understand what the settings are actually doing to get good results. A lot of amps require more low end than you think to sound natural, and by default, there is a low cut at like 80 hz. Also, you have to understand the EQ profile of each mic.
Quality IR's are basically pre-confugured with the mic, mic distance, high/low cuts built in, so it may be good to use those, but the stock can blocks are simply more flexible.

So why didn't you use a similar ribbon mic setting with the stock cab instead of the SM57.

Hi, I was wondering, why do you use a Volt 276 if you have a Helix ?
I just bought my Helix to replace my Volt 276 that I will sell, but maybe there is something I need to know in order to keep it ? Thanks !

I.m.o yes sure you can dial in sound that is close to an IR but you always need dual cab and EQ and HP/LP etc and yet still it miss something a 3D sound that stock cab cant reproduce
But that is with high gain sounds only
For clean sound stock cab is fine.
But since i spent money on IR why not used them on clean sounds aswell?
And that IR can be a multimic mixed IR say 4 mic blended you only have one mic per cab on stock cab.
