Do you ever dream about a Sonic the Hedgehog series, where the supporting cast wasn't abandoned after Sonic 06? ME TOO!
In my little head canon tangents, I often come to the subject of Shadow and Silver, and what might have happened if they were teamed up in the wake of Team Dark disbanding after 06. How might that have impacted the narrative of every Sonic game that followed?
With Sonic Frontiers coming soon, and Sonic Movie 3 on the horizon, I think now is more important than ever, to think about how all the amazing characters in the Sonic series could potentially be used.
Before we have a Movie Shadow the Hedgehog, and Movie Silver the Hedgehog, let's discuss how the game series might have handled them, had Sega and Sonic Team not lost confidence in them after 06.
Of course, this is true for pretty much every supporting character, Miles Tails Prower, Knuckles the Echidna, Amy Rose, Metal Sonic, E102 Gamma, Rouge the Bat, E123 Omega, Blaze the Cat, Dr Eggman, but perhaps, is more painfully true for Shadow and Silver. I miss the time where all characters were crucial to the series, and the deeper, Shonen style Sonic stories I so enjoyed.
So without further ado, let's discuss the narrative compatibility and personal chemistry of Shadow the Hedgehog, and Silver!

omg please, i hope this pair up is done. there's so much potential with this student/teacher parent/child (let be real, shadow would totally adopt silver like maybe five minutes into starting to train him. his protective side would automatically kick in.) dynamic!! and lets face it... we all wanna see shadow's parental/big brother side, especially if silver got hurt in some way... the bad guys would be neck deep in the "f***ed around and found out" department.

Unfortunately not only is SEGA afraid of 06 but for some reason being compared Dragon Ball. So while Shadow and Silver teaming up with each other would be great, SEGA wouldn't try it out of fear. Its a shame too, Shadow is the one character that would be around in Silver's future.

Honestly, I feel like Silver is way too capable to JUST be Shadow's apprentice (in many ways, he's already his equal, even back in 06), but I absolutely agree that they are the best avenue for eachother's growth and development. Silver isn't _always_ optimistic in 06 or the Rivals games, but he can be a tad too emotional at times (typically in the form of anger or competitive outburst). Shadow could help temper him there. And on the other hand, Silver could help bring Shadow a truly brighter outlook on the future, and perhaps bring him out of his shell a bit more (at least, when talking to Silver specifically).
Perhaps a part-time mentorship during a major team up helps make way for a very close, and highly respected friendship. Heck, I could even see them developing an interesting _rivalry_ at the same time, due to clashing ideologies. There are so many possibilities here, and a shared dynamic between them has the potential to be very nuanced and engaging if written well.

Silver may not be as cool as Sonic or Shadow, but theres a reason Silver was chosen to try take out Sonic. He’s exceptionally powerful, only held back by his naïve nature and inexperience.

Reading that article made me wanna fist fight all of Sega. Team Dark literally has one of the best character arcs and they think it's okay to ignore it. Don't even get me started on how they murdered Silver and Blaze. Also this video frustrates the hell out of me because of how awesome the duo of Shadow and Silver would be!!!

Its such a shame that Sega decided to thanos snap shadow and rouge's peak dynamic after 06, I will always mourn for them
Oh god that's SO REAL. The moment where Shadow begins walking away - believing he is nothing but a danger to the world he lives to protect - and Rouge stops him to tell him "Even if you believe the whole world will be against you, know that I'll always remain by your side. Remember that" was such a wholesome moment! Especially considering the cinematics of Shadow stopping, the camera panning up to his face, and him responding "I will" with a nod. Now Shadow's mr 'friends are for the weak' and Rouge just pays him no attention.
This video kinda made me sad, because this duo would be incredible.
A lot of characters were the collateral damage of 06, none more so than Shadow and Silver and I would absolutely love to see more of them just like you said! They could be a really fun pairing! Awesome video as always!

When personalities clash or sync, it doesn't matter who they are, it's always a joy to contemplate.
Characterization is very important, and it's what makes things happen in the plot, and that is why Sonic Adventure 2 is, in my opinion, the best story told in the franchise.
If it wasn't for fantastic characterization and interactions, SA2 would be a very different experience than we know today.
SA2 is also my favourite narrative. Alongside S3&K. Would love to see the series return to that style of narrative.
I dread to think what Ian Flynn's Shadow would be like in SA2, especially during the heist on Prison Island

Okay, now that I'm done ranting...The Silver/Shadow dynamic is amazing. Wish we could have seen a lot more of it.
It might just be me, but if 06 did happen, or if it didn’t, but Silver still had Blaze before losing her, what if both Shadow and Silver were to see each other as reminders of their sibling-like figures? Which might make it more wholesome, like Shadow seeing Maria in Silver due to his optimism, or Silver seeing Blaze in Shadow due to his more quiet nature

Once again a pleasure to watch a new video of yours! I always liked the Past-Present-Future theme of 06. When you think about it, Silver and Shadows constellation is awesome - the Past and the Future create the present and both of them can learn from their respective insights and work together to form their character even further. I agree that their interactions would be very cool and silly the same - just imagine their interactions with the others too. I would pay money to see Silvers confused face after Rouge teasingly flirts with him or Blaze who might take Omegas Words a bit too literal and they wreck chaos...so much possible potential I also love to daydream about. I really hope Sega/Sonic Team change their mind and focus more on the relationships between the different characters - because they are truly the heart of Sonic.

I don't think they could replace team Dark as Shadow's staple (or making the dimension hopping trio of Silver, Blaze, and Marine official), but I would love for them to be common team ups. Maybe Silver would have to reach out to Team Dark and GUN more often for his problems- especially with Sonic always on the move and difficult to get hold of. So Team Dark actually becomes a bit more reliable in that sense.

I really loved when Shadow needed a talk from Silver to wake up around the fake chaos energy being too much, it was so neat especially him saying "no use?!?" as a reference. Thats what really made me think about how good their dynamic could be

Yes yes yes! I always thought the dynamic between these two are so full of potential (also because I think 2006 Shadow is probably best Shadow and 2006 Silver is a great Silver) nowadays it can be a hard idea to consider them as a team since Sega doesn't want Shadow to have friends (What!?) But I am hopeful in the future there will be room for another Shadow and Silver character arc!!!
Also it might be a bit repetitive considering you have already spoken about Team Dark, but I would love a video about the relationship of Shadow and Rouge on how much they have grown to each other!!

Shadow and Silver's potential relationship will always be one of the Sonic series' biggest opportunities. Everything about the two goes together so well that it is really hard to believe that it wasn't at least a little bit planned at some point.

The fancomic, Ghost of the Future by Evan Stanley (an artist who later became an artist for IDW) did a really good with this dynamic. I absolutely recommend reading it if you want some shadow and silver dynamic

Mine is shadow and metal sonic it was really interesting in rivals 2.
While Shadow and Silver has a chemistry together Silver has another chemistry with another Hedgehog, Amy Rose, Amy is a tarot card reader and Silver uses psychokinesis and both have telekinetic powers, in one cutscene Amy chews out Silver for hurting Sonic and Silver questions if killing someone is the right thing to do before Shadow shows Silver the truth, plus Amy is playable in Silver's story, now if We go back to Sonic Adventure 2, it was Amy who reminded Shadow of His promise to Maria and Amy turned Shadow into an Anti-Hero, I think the whole Shadow, Silver and Amy thing can work, plus I believe in the Theory that Silver is the descendant of Shadow and Amy.

Do Sonic and Shadow’s relationship because i find they’re relationship interesting they both started out hating each other but then developed mutual respect for each other before working together to save the world these kind of relationship always get fascinated me because they are both opposite from one another while still having good traits much like Goku and Vegeta or Superman and Batman.
I remember years back the idea of Silver and Shadow being mentor/apprentice was extremely popular in the fan community. I wish Sega took notice of that and had ideas

@@AceCardGaming I think there is still some semblance of hope for the Sonic franchise. I get that it’s damaged to the point of no return in the eyes of a lot of people, but there could be some seriously great games made if SEGA/Sonic Team just did better. You can’t give up hope.

Another good video my friend! We know how much we want team dark to be together, but the thought of these two being together and working things out can be a great alternative. I would literally give my soul for a Shadow and Silver team up. Seriously, their dynamic in 06 was so fun to watch, and their stories were definitely better than Sonic's in that game (ironic considering it was supposed to be Sonic's game lol).
I'm tired of Silver being portrayed as a wet blanket who can barely be of use, or Shadow being portrayed as this "Hmpf, I don't need friends - friends are for the WEAK" edgelord. Seriously, I CANNOT forgive Sega for breaking up Team Dark; just because 06's gameplay was unpolished, doesn't mean the characters were! I genuinely believe that Shadow's character was at its best in 06 (the bonds he had with Team Dark, showing more of his vulnerable side, his calm and focused demeanour), and it pains me that simply because of was his debut game flopping Silver has been side-lined as a main character in the Sonic universe. Imagine a prequel Silver game, or one where he has to stop a timelord character from erasing reality (the second option would preferably have a Shadow team up).
Plus I never played Forces so to hear that Silver became Shadow's apprentice has SO MUCH UNTAPPED POTENTIAL?!?!?!! If they're gonna drop that lore, have a Silver and Shadow team up for AT LEAST 1 level....

I didn't expect to see an analysis between Shadow's relationship with Silver, but it's a wonderful surprise. The ship name for those two characters is "Shadilver". Whether it's platonic or romantic, they're perfect together. If Silver ever got his own spinoff title, Shadow's immortality would make him a suitable member for Silver's supporting cast. There's so much potential with this unique dynamic.
P.S. The reason why I mentioned "romantic" earlier is because of chaomix's video addressing sexualities for Sonic characters. Silver was featured there. His theme (Dreams of an Absolution) is a gay love story written by Bentley Jones. Also, Pete Capella has shown support for Silver being LGBTQ on Twitter. Even though romance isn't a huge focus in the series, I believe this would give more depth to Silver's character.
To have it happen, don’t let it be all who the character is.

No the way I was gagged when I learned Silver's theme was a gay love song just recently - idk it got to me. Way way way back in 2006, Shadow and Silver was legit the first m/m pair I fell for, way before I figured out my own sexuality. So it is just very special to me, and now it all makes sense to me why I could never view Silver with Blaze.
But regardless of all that, the potential these two characters have and the things they could learn from each other? Man, they could be such a powerful dynamic!

shadow could be the Moon and Silver could be the Sun! Opposites that work well together, Silver's energy and determination encourages Shadow to keep going, and Shadow's calm and strength keep Silver safe!
I would’ve loved to seen that combination or a spinoff game with them to be honest that ship has sailed long after sonic forces damaged it more than Sonic 06.
Let’s hope it’s not damage that can’t be undone! Frontiers seems to be attempting to rectify the story issues. Let’s hope the characters are also done justice.

The best place for a team would've probably been a Silver The Hedgehog game taking place after 06 and Rivals 1 & 2. Unfortunately, both characters have been damaged since then (I cannot STAND what they did to Silver or Shadow in the IDW comics and TSR).
this comment is very late, but i'd love to see a video analysis done on sonic and shadow's interactions/relationship! sega/sonic team want them to hate each other, despite everything games like SA2/heroes/06 have established for them... but, why!? i feel like they make a strong duo in the same way silver and shadow make a strong duo; they share the same goal to protect their world. and where shadow and silver reflect the past and future, sonic reflects the present, showing to those around him to fight for the now, to live in the now. that could be powerful for shadow. and i'm sure shadow could offer sonic something too... not to mention their own potential for hilarious and enjoyable banter. i love these character/relationship analysis essays you do for sonic so it would be amazing to see these two in a future video of yours!!!

Having never played Sonic 06 at the time because it was on a console I didn't own and not playing it now because it doesn't look fun, I only know snippets of the actual plot, so I didn't know this actually looks like it would work really well when I watched this video. However, while you didn't mention it much, I can't help but think it was a good thing they retconned the whole story for what they did to poor Blaze. Taking away her perfect original backstory and then fridging her deserved to be retconned. Also, while it makes sense, I can't help but be angry that they revived Sonic when he died but Blaze stays dead.

Omega and Shadow have a somehow healthy relationship with Blaze in Sonic Comic. Omega has a crush on Blaze due to her powers being fire as destruction and Shadow treating Blaze equally was surprising to me. Also, Omega's relationship with Cream is very cute.

... Sega... Fln... Don't just *remove* team dark. They're great characters and are amazing together!
I should point out that Shadow helping Silver did have a large amount of obligation to it more, even if I still think it's possible he was genuinely impressed with Silver. Though they were willing to help each other out, and had backs for one another. Otherwise, I definitely think their dynamic is also comparable to that of Dante and Nero in Devil May Cry. If you know the series, you'd see what I mean given Nero develops similarly to Silver in 06, and Dante in the game is a mix of Sonic and Shadow given he was sorta seen as a threat at first, but he also helped show Nero the truth and that he was serving something corrupt.
I wish they had set this up in Rivals with Shadow warming up to Silver and taking him under his wing at the end of the game and when the face off in Rivals 2 make it so Shadow is simply seeing how far Silver had come
Shadow and Silver would honestly make great team. Silver is still a bit new to the whole hero thing, and Shadow, having gone through immense change, and doing this thing for a long time, would make an excellent mentor fornthe young future hedgehog
I know it's non-canon, but to fuel fire to the shadow is silver's father theory, in sonic and the black knight, silver played sir galahad, the illegitamate son of sir lancelot, played by shadow. Kind of a weird connection but an interesting decision

I'm disappointed we only got to see shadow take off his inhibitor rings once. Imagine super shadow with both rings off. The original shadow with 1 ring off was able to teleport the entire space colony arc back into space after it started falling toward the earth atmosphere

Also another notable teammup was shadow and metal in sonic rivals they surprisingly have good chemistry being engineered machines by different robotniks.

i thought shadow and silver, as father and son relationship, even there eyelines/chest fur, and chaos control is to similar. also Silver has features of black doom spikes, and similar yellow eyes.. and levitate feature..... i think sega got scared.. tbh they could come up with unique way of linking the two in relation, there basically future eggman, who could engineered silver off samples of shadow blood. etc

I would like to see Sonic to get paired up different different characters such as Rouge, Espio, Shadow, and so on instead of just the usual Tails and Knuckles.
2:38 that's why I consider modern Sonic era to be a soft reboot. All past continuity and character arcs have been thrown away thanks to SEGA being afraid of the Adventure era
Me and my best friend call each other Shadow and Silver (Him being Shadow and me being Silver) as we have many similarities with the characters and our friendship is not to different to those two characters. I do wish Saga would do more with these two but a las, it is what it is.
In my storuy Shadow and Silver will be totally oposite of each other. Shadow will be the responsible type and Silver will be the inmature and childlike. They will have a smillar relationship as with 2012 Raph and Mikey. Also Shadow will also be a mentor figure to Silver.and as Shadow and Silver somtimes annoy each other they also have a deep respect for each other. I aalso think that Silver is one of the very few persons that has the rare aability that can make Shadow laugh.

I don’t ship sonic characters or pair them together in the conventional sense since most of the characters have ideals or are in situations that don’t allow for conventional pairing. Certain characters just compliment other characters in ways outside of romance and Shadow would be the biggest source of knowledge and wisdom for Silver assuming he’s still kicking 200 years in the future and they could really grow to care about each other in that mentor/mentee kind of way. The naive learning from the wise, the pessimistic learning from the optimistic.

Honestly, shame on Sega. Trying to erase history, even the bad parts of it, does no good for the future, and nothing ever truly gets fixed if you act like it never happened. It I just so asinine that they’re constantly acting like the reason 06 was a bad game wasn’t because they forced rush development for a holiday deadline but because it was just that. A bad game.
All we can do now is hold out hope that after a certain time and with less of a tight grip with the mandates that we’ll managed to get back what we lost and what we didn’t have, but very much wanted. Perhaps even needed.

I know this is off topic from the video but what do you think of Sonic Unleashed's story?
I honestly think that Unleashed's story is great especially for a game after Sonic 06.
Despite being simpler in terms of depth.
Use the word "wholesome" all you like. Frankly I'm tired of "iconic" being used too much since I think 2015; when studios stopped being creative and started spamming what 'people liked' in the past.
One detail that not enough people seem to realize with this pair, shadow is IMMORTAL meaning, HE WILL LIVE INTO SILVER'S FUTURE
The sheer potential of this concept is endless! Like imagine silver finding shadow in his time, expecting his old tutor, but the hundreds of years, and loss of everyone he knows multiple times over leaves him a completely different person from who silver knew in the past, which could give him even more motivation to change the future!
Or in an angstier angle maybe the world is subtley corrupted in his ruined future, but shadow is, for whatever reason, contempt and fine, so silver knows he basically has to potentially ruin shadows peaceful future for the greater good.
OR he comes back to a fixed saved future only to find that shadow died prematurely for some reason and has to, again, live with the greater good of a world at peace over his personal connection to his mentor
