- This song is called “Last of the Hunters” and is a tribute to the fishing industry.
The video is a mix of old and new footage and photos of well-known figures of fishing past and present and of the many fishing connections of the band. There are also photos of many of the ports referenced in the song.
Rory’s Uncle Alec Thorburn, age 81 can be heard on backing vocals and features the closing photos and his boat Green Pastures is seen in a photo at Fisherrow from 1964. Angus’s late father, Hector is seen on his boat Harbour Maid and his boats Alice Robert and Ros Nuala are seen. Angus’s uncle Iain “Skipinnish” MacDonald and his brother Neil also feature and 22-year-old Angus himself makes a couple of appearances at the wheel of the Harmony.
There are many other photos of good friends and those with connections to the band. Feel free to comment below on the fishermen and boats you recognise.
A huge thanks to all those who provided the content of the film and to Paul Riddell for bringing it all together.
We hope you enjoy “Last of the Hunters”.

This song was played at my sons funeral, he loved this song! He was a Fisherman on the Boy Andrew, (Caithness) xx
Thanks guys xxx
Brilliant song and video, best tribute to the fishing, that is now a "shadow" of its former self. I am a Lossie Loon. Lossiemouth is mentioned and the Ajax INS.168 was featured in the photos. Was owned by the Campbell family o' Lossie. My Dad was a skipper, and fished mainly fae Lochinver, his boat was Spinaway INS. 306 and before we emigrated tae Western Australia, his last boat, was the Sapphire UL.194. Sadly, the Sapphire was lost off Stoer Head, 1977, as she was steaming roon tae Lossie of a paint. RIP crew o' the Sapphire UL. 194. Gone but never forgotten.
Jim Gault, My Dear Dear Friend Jimmy, I was just about to comment on this and saw yours. It was a beautiful testimony to your family. It brought tears to my eyes in fact. True indeed Jimmy Gault you have a heart of gold. I’m so proud to call you my friend. Always stay Golden my Lossie friend. Janis xxx💞

Hi Janis, I will always stay Golden as you say. I posted my comments, because the fishing is, still a part of my HERITAGE and very proud of all the boats and men who crewed on them. Another reason for my comment, was because of what has happened to the fishing, not just in Scotland, right around the British Coast. Harbours that were always busy Monday to Friday, Saturday mornings, was, getting the boat ready for the next weeks fishing. Those harbours, are full of pleasure boats now, that, maybe are used three or four times a year.
Its the Politicians of Britain and the EU, that have culled the boats and almost culled those once prosperous fishing towns. They way our Fishing Industry has been treated, is just an absolute disgrace.
Take Janis, talk soon.
Jimmy xxxx
Beautiful ode to a way of life worth honoring
Love this song. I've been out on the scallop dredgers out of Kirkcudbright some years ago and still remember today the loss of the Solway Harvester 11th Jan 2000 off the coast of The Isle Man, with the loss of 7 crew members, two of them just 17.
Aye it was a sad time for the families and the industry Michael. We all felt so sad for their loss (Annan)
I live on the Isle of Man and in the reception of the government offices is a plaque from the people of Scotland thanking the people here for all they did and the respect shown to the poor men who lost their lives on the Solway Harvester. Whenever I go in there I always take a moment to read it, bow my head to remember the men and their families. Very sad.
Wonderful tribute and, sadly, also a lament.🥲
Just got home from a day at the fishing to find this at the top of my CZcams feed.
Coincidence - or did you have an Android phone with you? Google knows where you are at any time of day or night!
My home town is in this 🏴

Absolutely wonderful ! And now she's back - my yearning for Scotland
Great song. Linda Loo .
Newhaven, Edinburgh.
I love it. Wonderful! Makes me think of my childhood in Skagen, Denmark. My grand father Carl Andersen made in his company "Andersen & Sørrig" equipment for fishing boats back in the 1970-80's. As far as I know he also provided a lot of equipment for english and scottish fishing boats.
Saw you guys at Anstruther last month ... This was one of the many memorable songs on a great night ..... Love that it mentions Pittenweem!
So much love from the USA!
Great renditions for the yeomen.

3:45 eyyyyy thanks for mentioning my homeland Caithness, what wad done to the fishing industry there is indicative of the decline of the fishing industry and its great you mentioned it!
Guiding Star H360 was lost this week (October 2022) after a collision near Fair Isle. Thankfully, there were no fatalities or serious injuries.

that creel boat ( harbour maid ) looks a very good sea boat
Another fantastic song, just one question, who is skippering the little yellow fishing boat in the harbour? Iv never seen a boat stop so quick. ;)
Christopher, that wee yellow boat, that you mention, boat was stopped, with, a handbrake turn.. He is good that skipper.
That would probably be Angus macphale
An amazing skipper
And 1 of the 2 owners of the band
Am old out 4 loon ever one went sea in foot step of our father and grandfather
Trying to work out all the ports mentioned - any chance of the lyrics? ;-)
29 ports I think that is left .

Donal Doherty
I gave up fishing in 1983 as it was clear how destructive and short-sighted the industry was. Catching fish while using all the electronic aids available these days is not hunting.
Last of the hunters because the seas have been emptied by previous generations... nice song though.
Yeah my thoughts exactly
No last of the hunters because there’s not a new generation coming up to fill the boots. And that’s coming from a young lad himself
Fish stocks, at least in UK waters, have been on the rise again in the last 20 years or so
@@joshpollard2772 spot on young man,
@@gh7319 there are many that would have you believe otherwise!!!!!
