UN Humanitarian Chief: 'Gaza is special, not in a good way' | Talk to Al Jazeera

- Nine weeks into Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip, the United Nations faces increasing challenges in delivering aid to the besieged and bombarded enclave.
Israel’s offensive has displaced 85 percent of the population. About 1.3 million people are crammed into UN facilities there, exceeding their capacity four times over. These facilities have also been frequent targets of Israeli attacks.
Additionally, the killings of humanitarian aid workers in air strikes further complicate the crisis.
This situation raises concerns about the UN’s ability to operate in Gaza effectively.
Martin Griffiths, the UN undersecretary-general for humanitarian affairs and emergency relief coordinator, provides insights on these issues as he talks to Al Jazeera.

The U.S. IS supporting them by allowing them to continuing bombarding areas full of civilians in both North & south Gaza & vetoing ceasefire resolutions.
You sound very idealistic but unaware that a majority of U.N. members are urgently demanding a ceasefire so humanitarian aid can be delivered. But unless Israel allows entry, it would be considered an illegal invasion & risk escalation into a larger regional conflict.

So short of" top down" to the community, how are the locals helping locals? According to the report that Clarissa Ward submitted to CNN, they are not able to given that they are being bombed and are dying. 60 Journalist had tried and died attempting to get the story out, the results are from what Ms. ward explained, is with the Emirati field hospital, because there appears to be some level of respect for EMIRATI to co ordinate some level of peace, or care there, because they are not getting bombed, and that's Gaza people can go.

About 30 years ago when I was much younger I answered a request for a quotation from people living in an exclusive estate. They said they worked at the UN and appeared to be middle eastern. The house was palatial with sparse furnishings and I assumed they had recently moved in. Their command of English was limited. I was horrified that United Nations staff were living in such extravagant accommodations and I did not follow through with a quotation.

War has always been a tool and not a "default option" that just happens to certain places. Often, the tool is being used to accomplish hyper local goals like one small village being able to take grazing rights or water rights from another small village. Major NGO's are just unaware of the myriad (like 1,000's) of hyper localized goals armed groups are fighting over simultaneously. The causes of these wars are more complicated rather than being simpler than when an industrialized nation goes to war. International organizations lack the requisite localized knowledge or the manpower to parse through the sheer volume of information they could collect about the local causes of a conflict if they cared to collect that data in the first place.
Undoubtably, listening to local people and directly funding local partners leads to better usage of limited funds. In the past, the UN has handed out assistance itself instead of just writing a check. By its direct involvement, the UN pressures the different sides of a conflict into at least outwardly saying that they want peace. If the UN Humanitarian Chief is now hearing warring sides saying that continuing wars serve their own internal interests, it does not mean war itself has changed. It means that warring parties are no longer lying to the UN about wanting peace. By choosing to write checks rather than send workers, the UN trades some of its ability to promote peace in order to promote greater efficiency in the usage of funds.

Driving onto base on day I noticed that the wall with our motto had been vandalized. Under "Peace Is Our Profession", someone added War is just a hobby. I found it rather funny at the time. But now It should be War is our Profession, peace is just a hobby.
It appears to me that the development, manufacturing of and the sale of weapons of war is extremely lucrative. Those making the most profits are not subjected to the devastation of their use upon themselves or their families. Oh no, they are living in luxury with the world, paying as little as possible or nothing at all in taxes and pretending that their hands are clean. They are not.
There never has been nor do I believe unfortunately that there ever will be an end to greed on this earth. So many store up treasures for themselves on this earth and even Christian churches have been teaching a prosperity false doctrine to justify their own lavish lifestyles. When I see mega churches and so called Evangelists darting around in their private planes to their second or third luxury homes, all I can think is, they need to pay taxes. They have taken it upon themselves to reap the benefits of non-profits when their charity is disproportionately to themselves. Not the needy, not to UNICEF, not to Save the Children or even to the UN humanitarian relief. It is clearly spelled out in the scriptures that the church is to provide charity, not relying on states or national governments. But no, they've turned that ministry over to their governments and gathered wealth unto themselves. Failing not only the sheep of their fold, but failing God as well.
