When my family moved to Hawaii, I was a little girl. Our neighbor became our babysitter and she taught Hula dance to us and I absolutely loved it. My time in Hawaii was wonderful, many wonderful memories.

@@Manoatevarua Samoans are Polynesian, yes, as per the description. But the dance at 1.25 is not Samoan. Samoans don’t sway their hips like that. Could be Tahitian too but definitely not Samoan.

There is really nothing incorrect or misleading in our title or description...Folks may choose to bitterly correct what they think needs correcting... but at least have the respect to enjoy the entire video for what it is and not what you think is should be. +Xavier Frosth - Aloha from Hawaii! The name for the business was based on a 2 month trip to the Kenai Peninsula and other destinations in Alaska and BC. We first named our beloved chocolate lab Kenai, and then used the name for the business almost 20 years ago. When we relocated to Maui, i thought there may be a reference in the Hawaiian language to Kenai, but have not found one. There is a peninsula on the North Shore of Maui called Keanae, thats as close as I have found.

Living in Hawaii brought me here.... my 3 year old daughter was doing Hawaiian moves.
If you watch hula dancers without the large, grass skirts, it's a bit different. Some skirts are built to add that sharp, bounce affect.
It's still a complicated dance, don't get me wrong! But for the most part, it's not their actual hips that are making it seems so quick like that.
Yes, that is why they wear the skirts.
Mahalo for commenting. It is their hips that create a pleasant rhythmic sway. Belts and skirts accentuate the action of the hips. It is a specific correct movement of the hips that creates the effect. One can’t just wobble or flail.

Very committed hard to learn hula for years. These are my fav dancers.
Tahitian, Maori, Samoan, and Hawaiian. That's the order of the cultures in this video.
Of course there is a more wide range missing from the polynesian culture: Tonga, Niue, Cook Islands, Fiji, and more.
But, good video, just don't title it Hula dancers when it's not.

OMG, Talk about a walk down memory lane. Mama's Kumu was Kumu Kent Ghirard, her halau, The Hula Nani's from back in the late 1950's. Mama taught us 3 girls Hula, Tahitian and Maori, family friends taught us Samoan....our luaus we're good fun. Seeing this video brought a smile, Mahalo nui loa for all the love poured in this video. Using the bamboo sticks, uli uli and the ipu....My Mama dancing when I was keiki 💖 plenty Aloha 🤙 Me ke Aloha Pumehana
