If you can't tell, I read a lot of fantasy romance 😅 Let's see which books/book series reign supreme!
Obviously these are just my opinions - it is TOTALLY okay and expected for us to agree on some and disagree on others. I'd love to hear if you've read any of these book, what tier you'd place them in?!

Ooooh so curious how you'll end up feeling about the Throne of Glass series as a whole... ! It has a special place in my heart despite SO MUCH OF IT annoying me upon re-read haha 😆
OH MY GOD THE MAIN CHARACTER IN WILDEST DREAMS SAYING "COOL" ALL THE TIME... I literally made it to 4% and even that was a STRUGGLE I was in physical pain with how her inner voice was written lol
I'm forever going to be pissed at SJM for the absolute garbage fire that was HoSaB. I REALLY liked HoEaB and I was SO hoping the whole series was going to end up being a fave. NOPE lol

I've been really dragging my feet getting through TOG, and I'm not 100% sure what that's about haha. Every time I read a book I say "I shouldn't have let so much time pass in between books"... as I wait 8 months before picking up the next one 😅
I totally agree! I was NOT into HoSaB until the last like 15%.... Are you going to read the third Crescent City book when it comes out??

I do love a good tier ranking vid! I've not read most of the books you mentioned, but some of your observations are in almost total opposition to mine!
I LOVED Little Fire, I just read all the books in that series earlier this month and I could not put them down. And I didn't love Declan - although the development of their love and the plot/world was so interesting to me. And I can't wait for book 3.
Radiance was a fantastic book, BUT, I didn't believe that they were so repulsive to each other because he is actually very humanoid, but the second book in that series was far better and much more swoony IMO. Also, I blew through that whole series including all the novellas, a little while ago, and the Ippos King (book 3 I think) was the icing on the cake for me, because I love an opposites attract where the woman is the prickly/grumpy one AND she is the non-human too... it was utterly delicious.
Shifter romances are my favourite of all fantasy romances but as much as I enjoy Talia Hibbert, and loved the humour in Mating The Huntress, there was not nearly enough wolfy stuff in it for me. I was, however, _really_ into her family and would happily lap up a whole series about them - starting with her mum as having given birth to so many kids automatically makes her superwoman in my eyes!!!
I was waiting to see where you would put the Shelly Laurenston book - most of them automatically go into god tier for me! And I have so many others that I've read and really enjoyed, by a more diverse range of authors, that no one ever talks about which is a real shame. I could give you a handful if you're interested.
OK, so essay over! TFS🙂 😆🙂

YES GIVE ME ALL THE RECS! I feel like I've read everything out there (which is obviously false haha), so I'd love a few fresh-to-me authors to look into!
I go back and forth about whether or not I want to read on in the Wraith Kings series, but if you think the 2nd one is the best 👀 I might just have to give it a go.
I haven't gotten to Shelly Laurenston yet - which series do you recommend I start with??

@@andiereads Sorry, I meant GA Aitken - that is her pen name for her high fantasy world. She uses Shelly Laurentson for her urban fantasy worlds, which is mostly 3 series in her shifter world (😍😍😍), but also her Norse mythology take on valkyries/crows. She is comedy gold as far as I'm concerned and is one of my top 5 authors because her storytelling is superb IMO.
Wraith Kings is def worth continuing with. I've heard a of people say that they didn't like book 2 so haven't read on, but I actually really don't get that as both 2, 3 and a couple of the shorts in the series were even more compelling for me.

@@andiereads As for my recs essay (you askedđŸ€) - these are my other favs include these - and most of them are grossly unheard of.
*đŸ€©Greencreek series by TJ Klune.* Wolfsong, book 1, is one of my favourite books ever and this series is phenomenal and TJ is another one of my top 5 authors in part because of this series. I read it back when it was originally released and am so happy to see more people reading the series in the last couple of years.
*đŸ€©Grace Bloods by Jasmine Silvera.* A trilogy set in the Czech Republic mostly and is about necromancers and the FMC is a dancer for the Gods. The author had me rooting for an alpha(almost)hole type of MMC which is virtually unheard of for me. She also has two books of a trilogy prequel out too which is about the family of the FMC from books 1 & 2 of the original trilogy. This is a fairly unique type of story.
*đŸ€©Legends of All Wolves by Maria Vale.* This is the most unique shifter series I've ever read as they are very much wolves first and only walk in their human 'skin' to better navigate the world. There is also a difference between these 'wolves and others that are called 'shifters' in this world. The couples in each book have very different dynamics and it's hard for me to choose which is my fav. One of them has a bittersweet HEA and another is an excellent redemption arc for a spoilt character.
*đŸ€©Mead Realm by Kimberly Lemming.* Hilarious high fantasy with a very urban fantasy feel and the best titles ever!
*đŸ€©The Charm Collector by Mellisa Erin Jackson.* This is a newer fav as I read all of them as ARCs, and is not actually romance focussed at all yet (a prequel and two books). It's about a charm collector (AKA thief!) FMC who ends up with a bloodthirsty sentient sword - which is a new fav thing for me! Kimberley Lemming's series also has one introduced in the short story between books 1& 2 but hers doesn't DO things, she just has a really filthy mouthđŸ€ŁđŸ€ŁđŸ€Ł.
*đŸ€©WMVP Radio by Jeri Smith-Ready.* Small town vampire radio station where the FMC is a recovering con-artist who gets a vampire dog in book 2!
*đŸ€©Tales of Y'Myran duet by Shaylynn Rose.* This one is really romance adjacent as the love story is really slow burn. It also has a mildly sentient sword (told you it was one of my newest fav things!!!) and even though I've had them for years, I only read them this year and was kicking myself over it!

@@vamps_rock I am so intrigued by the TJ Klune series you mentioned and Mead Realm!!
I started The Mane Event by Shelley Laurenston, so I'll keep you posted on my thoughts!!
haha the essays are great :) entertaining and full of new recs (two things I loveeeee)

@@andiereads Be prepared for tissue galore for Wolfsong it's really angsty BUT has a lot of comedic moments too. There is also a very strong overarching plot and three short freebies that he published on his website that add a bit of something extra. And if nothing else, Ox the MC of Wolfsong is worth it alone!
That first series by Shelley is not her best, but is still fun. IMO her writing and her storytelling gets better as each series goes on with the Badger Chronicles being the best but also being the least romance-y. Also, all the shifter ones are highly connected so if you like them and want to continue I would def read them in order - as per Goodreads.
Glad you don't mind the essays - I'm not brave enough to put myself out there on youtube (unlike you and all the others!) so I have to get my thoughts across somehow đŸ€ŁđŸ€ŁđŸ€Ł.
