Hi Cherishaaa, this is pretty broad so I'm not entirely sure what you're asking, sorry. Assessment tools vary widely from those that measure various aspects of intelligence or capacity (e.g., IQ, learning, memory) to those that measure personality and psychopathology (e.g., symptoms, stress level).

I'm writing a play set in the 'not too distant future,' and one scene features an AI giving a psychological assessment of a human character in an interview setting (so like Blade Runner in reverse haha). Given the current trends in psychiatry, do you think a balanced approach of projective and objective testing will continue into the future, or do you think some forms of testing will become redundant when we have technology that can simultaneously evaluate spoken responses as well as measure small adjustments in body language. I realise that this question is already assuming A LOT about the place of technology in psych assessment and it's ability to measure different inputs, but I'm curious to hear what your thoughts are. Hey Adam, thanks for watching and commenting! Fascinating question, and your play sounds really interesting. Although this is speculative and a bit outside my skillset, I do seem to be hearing more and more about machine learning and assessments driven by automated computer technology. Psychiatry / clinical psychology / counseling / social work / forensics each seem to be heading away from projective/subjective tests and toward increasingly objective/quantitative measures, which lend themselves much more easily to the aid of AI. Is that the 'right' direction for our fields to go, I'm unsure. Projective tests (and somewhat related, a broadly phenomenological / subjective view of individuals and their mental health) is perhaps becoming less popular on the large scale, but I would argue they're still relevant and have their place. Again, thanks for asking!

Would this profiling tendency in behavioral analysis be efficient in identifying personality traits! Thanks!
Hi Francisco, I actually do not have much experience in forensic psych (none at all, precisely). So, I can't really speak to the veracity of various profiling strategies. I'm aware that profiling as a general practice has been scrutinized by research and its validity is sometimes questionable, but I can't really offer details about specific models or approaches. Sorry I can't be more helpful!
For someone who has difficulties leaving the home, is it advisable to have the ssdi psychological assessment over telehealth/video? Seems like it would be too limiting.
Hi Keith! While I can't speak to every situation and circumstance, I would say that there are indeed many psych assessments which can successfully be conducted remotely. Those involving physical manipulation of objects (e.g., the puzzles involved in common IQ tests) would be hard to replicate through audio/video, but many other aspects can be handled just fine. Best of luck in your pursuits.
That's often referred to as a "competency eval" or "assessment of competence to stand trial." The specific topics of interview and potential instruments used would vary widely, depending upon the nature of the case. Sorry that's really vague, but it does depend on lots of factors.
Your definition of reliability is slightly confusing. I wouldn't say that reliability is the extent of 'truth' discovered. The reliability of a test is measured in its ability to produce consistent and accurate results. Consistency on repetition and accuracy of results is the focus of reliability, not 'truth' finding. At least based on my experience and education.
Hello Heidi, thank you for your comment! This is a actually a common misconception, so it's a great conversation-starter. The consistency of a test result is just one form of assessing a test's reliability, among others. The reason we treat consistency (i.e., a test yielding the same or similar scores for the same individual over time) as an indication of reliability is that it is an assumed opportunity to minimize other sources of variance. If an individual's "true score" on a construct is hypothetically not going to change (e.g., their level of extraversion is truly 75%), and we measure them twice finding scores of 74 and 77, then we assume the differences between those scores must be due to measurement error. Measurement error is the opposite of reliability, whereas reliability refers to the accuracy/truth of a score. So, the indicator often referred to as "test-retest reliability" (where a test is given to numerous individuals twice at separate instances and then scores are correlated) is just one way of assessing the error-proneness of a test. Other indicators of reliability include internal reliability (often approximated with the Cronbach's alpha test), split-half reliability, and inter-rater reliability. These all attempt to take a look at the test with minimal other sources of intra-individual variance to see how much variability should be attributed to error. Hope that helps! Ugh DON'T use unstructured interviews. I dread them so much that I never go to the doctor because I know they're going to do that bullshit.

Certainly if someone feels dread at the thought of opening up to broad questions, the assessing clinician will have to alter their style, at least until rapport is built.
