- Hello and Welcome back to the channels guys 😀
If you're new here, my name is Arif and this is the 3rd video in the series, 'Let's Talk'.
In this video, I'll be talking to one of my colleagues from Deloitte - Fazal - about his motivation to pursue the Management Information System (MIS) degree from the US.
Fazal completed his undergrad from VIT Vellore in the field of Electronics and Communication and has been working in Deloitte since then
As I mentioned, this video is the episode 3 of the 'Let's Talk' series that I will be doing on this channel wherein I will be talking to a few people with different backgrounds, areas, interests and discuss their journey to inspire people
Here are the timestamps for the different sections of the video:
00:00 Intro
00:44 What is MIS?
1:22 Why pursue MIS?
2:37 Who should pursue MIS?
3:17 MIS after some work experience
5:12 MIS application process
7:32 School selection
8:52 How to apply and get acceptance
11:32 Final school after getting all the admits
12:51 Carnegie Mellon vs University of Washington
14:40 Other choices apart from MIS
15:58 What should students currently in college do
18:56 Outro
Again, I know the video is long but it will definitely help a lot of people who are curious about options other than the traditional MBA and MS degrees.
Fazal talks about his applications to 5 schools and how he got admit from 4 schools even after an average GRE score (according to him; Fazal being humble)
I hope Fazal and I were able to bring some value to people who are looking to apply for MIS degrees.
If you did find the video helpful, do hit that like button and share this video with your friends who have always aimed to go to the US for higher education.
As always, thanks for watching and I will see you in the next one 😁

Fazal OP!
Anuj my man 🙌
Best statement : i did not apply to the safe colleges because I was confident, you have to be confident.
Pure mix of confidence and humility 🤓
Hahaha, Fazal being Fazal. He was always confident about his application and it was really great seeing him get admits from 4 out of 5 schools
In the University selection list, which University of Maryland is he talking about ? College Park or Baltimore County ??
College Park
Hi Arif,I have a Bachelor's Degree in CS ,Having a 2 years experience in technical profile ,I am more inclined towards management ,I want to know if it's an MIS from USA or MIM in Europe ,can you help me understand which country is better or how should I proceed my research to choose which country ??
Both of the programs you mentioned are very different. MIS and MIM are very different and have a different target audience. First decide on what you want to pursue and what you want to focus on and then you can decide on the country and school.
Hi Arif, firstly great video!!! :)
Could Fazal please elaborate the difference between MEM and MIS?
Thank you Anvitha :)
Let me share what I understand about the 2 courses and I'm sure Fazal will contribute his bit as well,
MEM can be referred to as a program with courses in Marketing, Finance, Management, Operations, Modeling and available engineering electives (not just software but industrial engineering, nanotechnology etc). It typically prepares candidates for consulting or business analysis in any engineering related work function.
MS in Management Information Systems degree programs (MIS) provide more focus in the field of technology management. More like MEM for IT, so focusing on IT electives such as data mining, AI, networking etc
@@iArifAhmad Thanks a lot! Clearly understood the difference! I had this doubt cz I hv completed BTech in Biomedical Engg., therefore, MEM is more applicable to my stream
I’m glad I could be of any help
What are the pre requisites or certifications to do, for the one who is from non-cs background(EE) to pursue MS in MIS
I will ask him and let you know but as far as I know, you don't require any certification.
@@iArifAhmad Thank you bro..iam asking certification or what to learn.. to make MS course easy and to get some knowledge about the course before joining..becoz iam from non CS in UG..waiting for ur reply😊
@@manideep2998 Hey. Seeing your comment after almost an year. Did you apply for MIS?
Wish you happy and prosperous New year 2023, what is your cgpa and tofel score pls.
Same to you brother
By which month had you applied for the universities for early application?
By September
What’s the cgpa ? What would be good enough gpa to crack top universities?
Hi Ashrith, Fazal's CGPA is 9.11
AdCom looks at your application with a very holistic approach so there is no such thing as a 'good enough' GPA to get admits. To be on the safer side, try aiming for more than 8/8.5 depending on your college tier and aim for more than 320+ on the GRE
Although, people do get admits at gpa lesser than 8 and some even get rejected with gpa above 9 so do keep in mind to build your overall profile rather than just focusing on the GPA
Bro can you do another interview with him please as to how he actually got selected from VIT in US?
Hello, Yash. I am guessing that's what the whole video is about. Plus, every individual gets in with a different experience so its better for you to know the bird-eye's view instead of one particular instance.
Why fazal have not added u Washington in his LinkedIn?
Any incident to share?
He decided later on to not join the school because of the pandemic and personal reasons
@Arif Ahmad I was wondering the same thing lol
Bhai plzz muje btao vit bhopal kesa h mca ke liye thek rahega
Nahi pata bhai
Great insights Fazal sir... Do you have any material you can share with me, which helped you in preparation?
I'm glad you found it helpful Talha :)
Which exam are you looking at? GMAT or GRE?
bro is it a 1 year program?
Yes
Its semester abroad program ....?
It was the MIS program
