  • Attempting some Banksy inspired graffiti, I built this diorama as part of a WWS Facebook competition. It gave me the opportunity to work with some new techniques and use some new materials. I will revisit many of them on future models and hope to see improvements each time.
    I hope my videos are of interest to anyone who enjoys making dioramas, model railways or war gaming layouts.

    Hey there, first off absolutely amazing. I just found your channel last night and I just finished watching every video you’ve done on here. Wow, fantastic. I’m in the USA on the west coast and at 62 years young I am starting my first O scale layout it about 17x12x15x12 and will be my first large scale adventure. I will be using your videos as I go. Your stone work is top notch. I lived in a stone home back east and to this day I miss it. I’ll be doing some of those techniques for certain. Now, onto some of the lesser kind comments, I could just say screw ‘em, and I do to a point, but being optimistic I’d like to think they are offering constructive criticism but I suspect you could provide them with better suggestions than they have offered. Don’t let those comments deter you man, you are absolutely amazing in what you do. Some of the older guys have fixed ideas and just don’t want to do things differently. Keep up the good work. So awesome to see what you do and I can’t wait to see more. I have to agree with one comment and your reply, Jason of Jason Jensen Trains is also fantastic. I’ve used many of his techniques on building kits with amazing results. He’s also quite helpful when you have a question as well. Alright my friend, have a great week. Cheers!

      I have photos of two cars in Florida that were abandoned and the line dismantled right up to their wheels on either side. One was the General Hulan, a railroad business car and the other was a deluxe sleeper and club car. Both sat behind a paper recycling center on their track for about 15 years before the railroad chopped them up for scrap. It was a sad situation to witness but with the tracks gone, there was no moving those old cars anymore.

      Thanks Jeff. It may have struggled to stand out without the white which I suppose is why it's used quite often in graffiti. Like so many of these things, I think you can always do a better job the second time so I would definitely change lots of things on this diorama.

    superb work of course, but what I really enjoyed about this isn't so much some adherence to prototypical accuracy (as we're all aware this particular diorama would've been about 24' long just to portray a short siding!) but it's more about modeling as an art form: you appreciate it for its depiction of a scenario as a model, which is what it should be.
    I bring this up as I was thinking coach couplings. but then I thought who cares? it's a hornby model. we know it's a hornby model. the whole diorama is a model, and a superb example of modeling skill. still a couple of feet long model though... and that's a good thing.
    really enjoyable video btw, almost therapeutic, with a well chosen soundtrack.

    I really like this video! I am collecting tips and tricks on abandoned line modeling. (Materials and applications, etc.) Aside from your track looking like it just had the tamper down it to straighten the rails perfectly, it is well done! But little details like that are probably not noticed by many. On most of the lines I have seen where they have been abandoned for ages, the vegetation seems to take over because no one wants to mow or weed spray a disused line. If you were to have used a taller grass or shrub, what would you recommend for the materials on that application? Thanks again for sharing!

    • @DartsideScenics
      @DartsideScenics  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Thanks Jason. I often think about revisiting this and other dioramas to sort out some of the things I wasn’t happy with. I would probably use more 6mm dead grass and create some brambles using rubberised horsehair and noch leaves.

You also are able to buy a lot of the things that put it all together.
