It is November 2023 and I am enjoying this wonderful album that celebrates 45 years of age, released in 1978
I was the associate director on their Christmas special also called Christmas Portrait. Gene Kelly was the guest star.

As I said I was the associate director and we had Gene Kelly on as a guest. During a rehersal Gene wasn’t there and I stood in for him. The script called for him to lift her up in his arms. Well I did and couldn’t believe how light she was. Sad.
@@jamescox5626 Wow, a unique experience ... to stand (much less, dance lift) -in for the Gene Kelly; and at that, the Karen Carpenter. Ineffably sad that she mis-saw herself (in that era of the Twiggy ideal) as too heavy. But so glad that lastingly we have (as on CZcams) her Carpenters recorded splendid performances.
The best album. The voice of Karen Carpenter is magical. Fabulous!

I've never heard this before. It is absolutely spectacular!
It is my favorite Christmas carol album.
This is quite possibly the greatest Christmas album ever produced. I've been listening to it for many, many years, and never get tired of it.
I agree. Richard's arranging is IMPECCABLE. And Karen's voice? THE most beautiful voice I ever heard.
When Karen sings "frosted window panes" after the intro, chill-inducing. I know Christmas is near! This album is a masterpiece.
After 45 years, still the the best christmas album in my opinion. And in this original vinyl running order, Karen's voice comes in at 5:09 after a great intro with that unforgettable 'Frosted.....' and then Christmas is here in all our hearts.

Best Christmas album of all time. As a soldier that has been deployed for Christmas "Merry Christmas Darling". Has always had a special meaning to me.
This album reminds me of being a kid in the late 70's with all my family listening to this wonderful masterpiece. Tons of great memories decorating the tree, drinking hot chocolate, singing these songs together. Such a beautiful time. But for alot of us our loved ones have passed on and all we have are these charished memories. This Christmas will be the first one with out my beautiful mother. She passed away Dec 27th 2022. It's hard not to shed tears listening to these now. Christmas was my moms favorite holiday. Tons of cakes, cookies, and all kinds of goodies throughout the holiday. Memories are all we have. Love your family and take nothing for granted. Ya never know when their last breathe will be. God bless us all and merry Christmas 🎅
Word for word great post. Born in Downey Ca not terribly far from where the carpenters lived. Still in love with her. Like to think the angle Karen knows how loved and missed she is still to this day.😎😊🎄

God bless you. Your sentiments are exactly as mine. I started listening to this “album” in the 80s - a CD. It’s my all time favorite and I still have the disc and listen to it every Christmas. I also cry … but the music is absolutely beautiful ❤️
Karens' vocals were truly magical and especially at Christmas! The world lost an angelic voice unlike any in the 20th century when she was so cruelly and unexpectedly taken from us.

@pookie440: I could not agree more if I were you and I was saying it. For me, when I hear her voice, I am transported to another dimension of purity, holiness and joy. It always feels like she is singing straight to me, to my heart. No singer has ever touched me in this way. Ever.
Her voice is particularly made to sing Christmas songs, both sacred and secular. Her control, intonation and clarity of pitch, along with Richard's arrangements, have no equal. Simply put, the best Christmas album of all time. But why is it not, because God created her voice so we could know what an angel sounded like. What more can I say? My number one Christmas album, it just isn't Christmas until I've listened to this album, I play this while touring Christmas light shows, while baking, decorating the tree you name it. There just isn't an album that says Christmas like this one.Perfect in every aspect.

Karen Carpenter had the most beautiful voice I ever heard. Everytime I listen to her sing I tear up. She and her brother were great together. I grew up listening to them and to this day I still do ♥️

I missed this Christmas Special and I’m very thankful it has been made available! From the 1st time I heard Karen’s voice I had to stop, listen and immerse myself into the lyrics and perfect musical arrangement by Richard. The voice of a beautiful melodic Angel is still loved and at least we got to hear it! Great Christmas Special, loved the Theme and God thank you for The Carpenters and my favorite singer Karen…big smile!

I had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing Karen in February, 1971. I asked her there were any types of albums she would like to do in the future. She instantly answered, "A Christmas Album." We had to wait seven years but "Christmas Portrait" was worth waiting for.
When I hear her sing, "...through the years we all will be together, if the fates allow..." little did we know that she only had four more Christmases with us on earth. I have no doubt she is in Heaven singing with the angels.

This is one of my favorite parts of Christmas dating back to 1978 when I bought it and listened to it. It's linked to so many of my memories of family and friends who are no longer around. Instantly takes me back in time!

It's April 19th 2024, just snowed and it's freaking cold here in Alberta. Which is why listening to Karen's spectacular voice is a perfect way to beat those winter blues in the spring. 😀
They made such great music. A sound that will never be duplicated. Huerb Albert owns A&M Records. People told him he as taking an awful chance on signing on the Carpenters. That all changed when they won their first Grammy for Close To You.

When I was a kid we had this record album that we played on the home stereo that looked like furniture. In my mom's car we also had this on 8 track cartridge. Then when I was a teenager I bought it on cassette tape and then when CDs became popular I got it on CD. I still have them all. Although the 8 track I no longer can play. But now where ever we are we can now have it on our phones. The best Christmas album ever in my opinion.
