Having owned a Saab back in the 1980's, I would be surprised if this one didn't come back to life with little to no effort. The Saab is truly a remarkable automobile, I enjoyed driving every mile in the two door hatchback I once owned.
A testament to just how remarkable the Saab actually is, I bought my 1985 hatchback used from a registered nurse in Florida, she was buying a new Saab convertible. The car had 107,000 miles on the odometer, none of the four tires matched, as they were all made by different manufacturers. I installed two new CV joints, a new clutch plate, four new Perelli Tires, and I drove it, drove it and drove it. This Saab was my favorite car, even after all these years.
PS: I never had the chance to meet the nurse who owned my Saab prior to me, but I always wanted to. She obviously loved her Saab, mismatched tires included. This is evident by her buying a second one.
Best Wishes to all my fellow Saab lovers.
    Sonny P ( U.S.A. )

I grew up with a newer version of this car. We had a Battleship Gray 1968 SAAB 96 with a Ford built V-4 engine. It was a very well built car and way ahead of its time (especially here in the US). I loved the 4 speed column shifter with its very precise shifting (American column shifters were very sloppy and often got jammed between gears). The “free-wheel” centrifugal clutch release was another great feature on this car, you could lock it out with a lever under the dash. Front wheel drive was quite unusual back then and it made that car great in the snow. The Ford V-4 SAAB used was an excellent engine, FoMoCo should have brought that to the US to use in their cars instead of that in-line 4 cyl they used. Neat car!

Wow this my best friend Don's Saab. When we were 17 we drove all over Vermont skiing. Saabs also loved by North Country rural mail carriers who had to deliver on unplowed country roads. First FWD till the Tornado came along. The Saab could plow through the highest snow banks with only summer tires. They also had amazing heaters. Great memories, sad GM destroyed the brand and they went defunct.

The original had a 3 cylinder engine 2 cycle in which you added oil to the gas tank. There was also an optional 73hp German made 4 cylinder 4 cycle which we thought was the one to have.

In 1984, as I passed thru Kota Bharu, Capital Of Kelantan, I saw a maroon colored SAAB. Right Hand Drive, unsure of engine model. They are good, but not really tropicalised like Japanese autos.
I sure like to spend retirement in summer and pottering around the yards and the poking around the well preserved structure of the barn, which accounts for the non rust of the SAAB. Restoration is the jewel of my retirement.
Congratulations on the find, original keys too.
    Salud.

That engine looks like the Sport model, with 3 carbs instead of 1? If so, pretty rare. What a find and hope it's back on the road soon. There are still a few taking part in classic rallies in the UK, their distinctive "ring-a-ding" engine note and oily exhaust makes them stand out from the crowd. I owned a single carb model for a few years in the early 70s, fantastic to drive and my late uncle had a series of V4s before moving onto 99s and 900s. He said that the German built V4 engine was better than the UK type and they could be told apart by the position of the distributor, one had it at the front of the Vee and the other was at the back, I don't recall which was which, can anyone shed light on the difference?
