    Ingredients
    All purpose flour/Maida
    Water
    Preparation
    There is no preparation needed.
    Procedure
    Take some water in a vessel and keep it on medium flame. You do not need to measure the water. I took approximately 6 cups of water. In a small bowl take 2-3 tbsp of all purpose flour or Maida flour and mix with some water without any lumps. Add this to boiling water slowly while you stir with the other hand. Bring this to a boil while you stir continuously. You will notice that the water is thickening slightly. Switch off the flame and let it cool off.
    Once it is cooled off, it is ready to use. You can do it in the kitchen sink or in the bathroom. I did it in the kitchen sink because I only did on one saree.
    Dip your saree or shirt in plain water first. Make sure you unfold the saree to get wet evenly. Wring it well and keep aside. Pour off that water and take some more fresh water in a big vessel or bucket. Strain the fabric starch into the bucket of water to remove any lumps. You may add more water if needed to dip the saree. Take the wet saree and dip in the starch water. Let it soak completely in the starch water. Squeeze out the water.
    With the help of another person hold the saree on both sides and shake it once to remove any folds and spread it on the grass or side walk. Make sure the surface is clean. If you have a full sun the cotton saree will get dry in just 10 minutes. If you are drying colored clothes remove from sun as soon as it is dry. Otherwise it fades out the color. Now your saree is ready to fold and iron.

    • @SasiRekhaskitchen
      @SasiRekhaskitchen  Před 5 lety +2

      If you want to use on colored clothes make sure you boil the starch until it is translucent. Then strain it to remove any lumps if there are any. And I would not do heavy starch for my colored clothes. I hope these tips will help.

    I’m a quilt maker from Canada and was looking for an economical and natural laundry starch to starch my quilting fabrics prior to cutting and sewing to give them body... and I found it in this saree starching video. Thank you so much. Question... do you find insects are attracted to the starched clothes since you use flour? I am concerned about them possibly eating my quilts.

    • @SasiRekhaskitchen
      @SasiRekhaskitchen  Před 3 lety +5

      Hi I am not familiar with quilts but we starch our cotton sarees and keep in the closet for a long period of time. They never attract bugs or insects. After starching the fabric it should be dried completely, otherwise it will smell bad. I never saw any insects. However, since you are doing a large scale quilting, I would recommend you to do a test first.

      This method of starching doesn't give shine to the garment.
